messed up band surgery
Marine mom replied to getfit48's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes bodies reject stuff. It is no different than the fact that I can't wear earings. I am sorry that you had such a hard time. I hope that you recover without anymore incident. -
Horrified at Australian surgeon
Marine mom replied to leftover_eidoes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
:thumbup:Well said. Coming along, judging and hating on people is not cool in my book. i battle weight for years. It took 8 years to convince the docs that i had thyroid issues. I dieted, but have a need to keep my calories far lower than the norm to lose and maintain. If I had done this years ago, it would have been life changing. -

Medical procedures are always open for changes. As far as waiting until someone is 150 lbs overweight to do the surgery can be stupid. Could you lose and keep the weight off back when you only had 75 lbs. to lose? Guess not. People need to make the personal choices best for their lives. And doctor gossip is just that. It can be true, sabotage, jealousy, etc. eta: And how does the friend of a friend of a friend know that the person had no co's? Maybe they were personal. Leiaha good for you for getting off of the meds. I would do anything instead of diet pills, and in my case, that was lapband. You had been carrying that weight for almost as long as the OP has been alive...perspective. -
I get those symptoms when I drink milk now. If nothing else works, try making smoothies with almond milk and soy Protein. It worked for me. Good luck!!!

Horrified at Australian surgeon

At 33 she was in the obese range. It wouldn't be covered by my insurance, though, even with comorbities. Plus it sounds as though you are getting this story pretty far out. Things change between people, as the old game of gossip always showed so well. Maybe he is a terrible person, or maybe not. There are shady characters in every field. -

You all are so brave. I know I will need work, but am nervous about it. Thank you for sharing your stories. I really appreciate it. -
Anybody getting or have new BOOBS
Marine mom replied to Malisafos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
amen! -
hopefully your new city brings a new doctor who will be supportive. I will say that i have to exercise 5 or 6 days a week to make a difference. Maybe that would help you feel better, too. not a lecture, just thinking. June 1st is just around the corner, so maybe a short term goal would benefit. I can do almost anything for a month. It is a lifetime that always got me, lol.
-
maybe it is because you haven't changed anything. Last plateau I had to increase my calories and change up my exercise. I've hit another plateau myself. We'll see if I can shake things up again.

i am so glad you have some relief!!!

They are in need of makeovers! I really want to see Daris get that far. Everytime I see him I want to get out my scissors. michael is becoming less irritating to me. Victoria was new, and in this crowd that isn't good. They are a pretty close knit group. Really sorry I missed Bob's reaction, lol!

it takes time to adjust to change. Had your read all of the information on the band? Until you have restriction you either just eat what you want and know you are potentially not going to lose, or you decide to make use of that time. I don't have much restriction at all. I choose to work because I want change. So i can only give my experience.

Healing with whole foods...
Marine mom replied to perryjoyce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We have been eating whole foods for years. We buy local organic/ local/ organic then other. ages ago someone told me about the 80/20 rule. If we eat well 80% of the time, then the other 20% of the time there is room for the other stuff. -
Hope that helps!

Theme Park Thrill Rides and the Lap Band
Marine mom replied to hunkin702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on the rocknrollercoaster at disney studios one month after banding. No problems with me. Hopefully just a fluke. -
I'll talk to the doc on Monday after I chew him out for leaving. I was there a month ago, and there were people in the lobby just starting the process. Those folks are now going to be months behind in starting with the only other doc. The answer from the other doc is they will take me for fills for $200 or a note from the insurance stating that they will be covered, so I am feeling a bit less stress. If my surgeon is going to continue practicing within a couple of hour drive then I may commute. At least now I feel I have options. I was pretty hopeless last week. I think that i may go without a fill. I'm not hungry all of the time. just some of the time. but maybe a tiny fill would help and not screw me up. hmmmmm. thanks for listening, guys.

Are fills really necessary?
Marine mom replied to sweeteebls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 months out, and have had one fill. I have always been able to diet, cut calories, etc. But I can't do it forever on my own. I figure that I will get a fill when I need it. Technically, I am considering one now. But we will see. I see your point, though. it does seem like people have a lot of trouble with fills. -
Maybe you all can help. big mental issue conected to the trip and my doc. My doc is leaving his practice, and I can't get an answer from the other doc in town who does fills, so I may be stranded. I have minimal restriction. I can eat a soup bowl salad before filling full, and not getting stuck. This could be really handy on the trip. OTOH, I don't know when I will be able to get another fill. I have no idea how to find a fill doctor. I can go to columbus, cleveland, etc. But how do you find a doc? So, what do I do? Go for a fill that might help, or leave as it is for the trip? I can't decide. eta: I have a couple of great apps on my phone for finding meal options. My recent favorite is the side salad at BK for a buck!

LOL, now that sounds like a trip! Sorry for the confusion. Illuminationlady, any advice on a cross country trip? You did so well!
-
Thinking about you guys. It is a scary thing to make a big change. Take care of yourselves, friends. If you are feeling down, try not to let it overwhelm you.
-
We're going to have a baby! Yeah Tracy!!! That is such a great thing. I hopefully find out whether the only other local doc who does fills will take me as a patient. Any good thoughts are appreciated. Viv, we start a three week cross country trip in 3 weeks. I'm really nervous about what I'll eat. I am probably over planning. Any advice? I think you did great only gaining 5 lbs.

Non-Believer Becomes Believer
Marine mom replied to lap5280's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
just so you know, i sometimes hold on at a number for weeks, and then it drops a great deal. i figure it is hormones, so don't let if freak you if it happens again. nice job dropping below the 270 mark. my next one is 260. i've been at 264 for 3 weeks. -
change isn't always easy to deal with. Relax, and just take each day a bit at a time.

Sabatogers / My Boss
Marine mom replied to deb_ladyrose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd say lecturing anyone else about their weight is not a smart idea, let alone your boss!!
