What is the risk of a round of golf?
Marine mom replied to ChewysTee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would think that golf involves the core muscles to the point that it would not be a wise thing. -
What the heck?!?! Why do people say the things that they do?
Marine mom replied to gingerjane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
eh, I did have it done for the looks. and the health benefits. they are not mutually exclusive. people ask questions because they are curious and/or concerned. we all say stupid things sometimes. there isn't any reason to be so defensive and take such offence. You have probably said rude things too, and NEVER MEANT TO, either. eta: and I will need surgery to remove excess skin and to put my boobs back where they belong. -
So it is ok to be rude about their surgeries when you don't want them to be about yours? That sounds just as hypocritical to me. And judmental to boot.

Fill issues and bruising?
Marine mom replied to lauragshsu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bruised really bad with the first fill. 2nd time, none at all. I sure hope you do ok with the next one. -
So, it is easier to keep the weight off with the band. it will be statistically easier for you to keep the weight off.

Opinions wanted! What's the best iPhone app for food journaling?
Marine mom replied to sawyer77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i use loseit. I don't think that anything makes it fun, it is just something that needs to be done, so I do it. let me know if you find an amusing one. -
entirely. I will get totally bummed because the weight isn't coming off, my period will start, and bam, 4 lbs. last night. Literally. Yesterday I weighed 262, today, 257.5. I will now, lose a couple, and then piddle around as the gains begin again. Frustrating. Now, trying for the under 100 to lose. I always have another goal in mind!

It sounds as though he has walked in your shoes. Lapband has been an easy way out for me, thus far. It has kept me on the straight and narrow when I didn't necessarily want to be. I also believe it will be an easy way out a year from now, when I might want to walk away, and live the simpler non dieter life as I have before. It is an opinion. I never would have considered plastic surgery, but now I am. I don't know how the earlier analogy applies, though. Is getting my boobs done easier than some other way of dealing with the problem?

You don't pay a pharmacist to take care of your health. You pay a pharmacist to dispense meds and to understand their interactions. As for your PCP, docs only know what they spend time with. I do not know everything about everything in my field. Do you? My doc is 12, but is a great guy who is willing to study if he doesn't know something, and I am happy to fill him in when things aren't as clear. That is why it is called a relationship. lol, and my surgeon is clueless about nutrition, too. (unlike my pcp!)

I love using the pudding mixes to thicken.

What was the most difficult to get used to post-op?
Marine mom replied to Lch8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is hard to say whether it just timed itself out or the extra protein and biotin helped for me. -
medications that cause pain and vomiting would be an issue without the band. As for nsaids, they can cause a problem for anyone longterm. I had to give them up a long time ago. These are issues that anyone with stomach problems would be dealing with, rather than lapband issues. Meds that affect heart rate, etc., are in a different class than the potential issues for lapbanders. apples to orange comparison. my pharmacist has no clue i was banded. it isn't a medication issue. it is not his business nor his problem.

my hair loss has been scary. It seems to have slowed recently, though. finally. -
Lol, grace is one of my favorite words.

docs usually only know about the stuff they use every day. There isn't anyway that they can keep up with every specialty, and no reason a pharmacist should.
-
if you aren't selling why not just post your information?

I suspect that Sunshine hid so much behind her weight that she never did grow up. Sort of like the stall that addicts have when they are in the midst of their addiction. That said, and admitting that I am a crier, she needs to chill. I get so tired of the two of them fussing.

awwww...what a sweet story!
-
Lol, I think that I agree entirely with you this time! I can't wait to see the makeovers.
-
tons, thanks for the insight. I tend to not put 2 and 2 together sometimes. I need to slow down and think sometimes.

Indispensable tools?
Marine mom replied to perryjoyce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any digital scale works. Snack size baggies. Every snack that comes into the house is weighed and bagged. it has been a blessing to the whole family. And it is great to be able to just grab an inexpensive bag 1 oz bag of almonds as I am leaving the house. -
Betsy, do you log any to figure it out? I've been thinking I need to, but can't quite figure out the form. OP, I just started feeling some restriction with my second fill. But before, I would randomly get stuck on something that had totally not been a problem ever before.

You are welcome, Tracy. Have a good day! My latest victory...I have finally gone down 10 BMI points!!! Next goal is to just be obese!

tracy, the water balance in your body may have changed. chances are you haven't eaten an extra 14,000 calories. Try not to stress, exercise when you feel up to it, and find a way to satisfy that sweet little babies sweet tooth.
-
Can you satisfy the little one with a chocolate kiss at bedtime, or is he/she a donut kind of kid? Well, I had a small fill put in. I told my doc about my trip and my concerns and i think it is a good compromise. This a.m., i had a smoothie, and am fuller than usual. I'll need to stay on top of it!
