Mad as H-E-!-!-

do the math. you are already 4 mls along the path. If some avg. is 5.8, you are closer to the mark! Chill out. you are only a week into this. I was tired for the first month, and it was due to the anasthesia, etc. it was MAJOR surgery. the bigger band may be because there was so much fat around your stomach. that makes it necessary to use the bigger band. be grateful it exists. While most of your weight is in your butt, your stomach area isn't exactly tiny. before you call and are rude to people and make a fool of yourself stop and think. You sound like you just want to fuss and complain. I couldn't believe when I looked at your profile and you were nearly 40 years old. eta: are you even supposed to be eating yet? two weeks in, i was still on liquids. -
yeah, yeah, yeah for you, doer!

How important are the rules really?
Marine mom replied to SavvyCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. We eat healthy, have for years. I just was not willing to take my calories as low as I need to to actually lose weight without the band as a way to combat regaining. If I followed the diet my doc gave for after surgery, I would not lose. I don't lose at 1200 calories. So I adapt. I have minimal restriction. I just choose to eat well. You can't just stamp out a lifestyle for everyone and expect it to work for everyone. That is silly. We aren't all the same. I was reading the pcos thread and thinking that they really have to adapt. That would suck! -

if by straight talk you mean rude, you are right. Many of the people here became fat by following the advice of the "experts." it is high time that people take responsibility for themselves and their weight loss. I have no responsibility to my surgeon or to others to lose weight. I think that surgeons who put rules out there to make their numbers great rather than to support the health of their patients, while good surgeons possibly, are fos otherwise. I picked my surgeon because he is a damn good surgeon. pure and simple. if someone is going to slice into me, they are going to be the best. he has, unfortunately left his practice and i am forced to find support elsewhere. i will look for someone who supports my beliefs. what is the difference between that and doing what I believe to be right on my own? My band is just a tool. i don't worship it or the guy who put it in. i'll even take it a step further with a reminder that the reason surgeons are into this surgery is because it is an easy, steady money maker. they have no training in nutrition, or exercise. they are trained to do one thing and do it well. my dad is a doctor with a specialty. he is awesome at that specialty, but does not know everything about medicine and health by virtue of being a doctor. I would never blindly trust any doctor even within their specialty. when mom had cancer, even though we were dealing with one of the best hospitals in the nation we still got a second opinion. then we went with the assumption that neither the surgeon nor the oncologist knew diddly about nutrition. We hired a specialist for that. -
Pureed Foods = Disgusting!
Marine mom replied to Julie5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
no, mushed foods are not for me! I ate foods that normally come in that state. -
Truvia is stevia, I believe. Stevia is a plant. I have some growing in my yard. It isn't a manipulated chemical. It is also good for sugar levels. My diabetic husband has been using it for years.

mine got worse and are now slowly getting better. if yours have ever been hormone based, losing weight throws off your estrogen as you lose the fat. i hope yours get better soon. i take relpax when necessary. as soon as i have an inkling of a headache.

Ps...I don't know if you have ever dealt with sheep, but they are some of the mist difficult and stubborn animals around! -
How important are the rules really?
Marine mom replied to SavvyCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When people choose to use words like "sheep" to describe the behavior or others it is offensive. Choosing to follow the suggestions of the experts in the field is usually called smart. If I follow the advice of the people who know the system, my car can last twice as long with half the problems. (yes, we have a 15 year old honda with 500,000 miles on it). I think that people need to work with their experts, study on their own, and talk some more. As I said earlier, many of the rules are there because many people have problems with those issues. If you don't, then, number 1, count yourself blessed, and 2, be honest with the people dealing with you. -
It stinks to have a time schedule like that. I hope they see some sense.

How important are the rules really?

The rules exist because all of that stuff CAN affect a person. My doctor is a common sense kind of guy. I like that. He allows caffeine, soda that has been debubbled a bit, and limited alcohol. I drink coffee. I have had a handful of sips of soda, usually when necessary, and alcohol is empty calories. A sip or two works for me. Exercise is important for life, mental health and physical health. -
I hope things come through for you.Frankly, my journey with the insurance company took 9 months so anything less is pretty good in my book.

What would you do re: Family Reunion?
Marine mom replied to Mommy2Ps's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
4 oz. is half a cup. pretty easy to measure. I hope your husband will be taking care of you, too! I would choose to stay busy, spend time with people, and enjoy. It helps fill the time. -

Humm is it considered cheating???
Marine mom replied to pocketsfullofsunshine125's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'm 5 months in, and I agree with her. I have dieted often. This is the easiest weight loss I have ever had. Short term loss is higher than the avg. diet, if I remember the charts currectly. -

I was just giving the other side of nuts. It is amazing how the advice is a bit different from everyone. :tongue2: -

I was fine at that stage. Eating was of interest, and being entertained by others would have been awesome. -

Marine mom replied to pocketsfullofsunshine125's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is cheating. but that is only my opinion. Ron, on the biggest loser had regained a huge portion of his weight, and one can only guess that he had in that time stretched his stomach, or whatever happens with gb patients. -

Nuts (almonds and walnuts) are a part of my daily life. I keep a weighed out serving size (tiny!!!) available, and when I need a filler will eat 2 or 3. This works for me. -
Scared to death.......Band slipped...Help
Marine mom replied to hdsantoni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am so glad for you. take care of yourself. -
Maybe you are just going into this, seeing it as a tool, rather than a savior. There isn't anything wrong with that. i was like you. i know how to diet. i just was not willing to go into it again without some better hope of keeping it off. Maybe your way is best. Surgery is a bit anticlimatic, because it isn't a magic pill as many seem to see it. So don't worry about it. My personal thoughts.

That this doesn't have to take over my life. I don't live for food or the band. It is like having a new baby. You can make it peaceful or joyful. That it isn't up to others to cater to my needs. That others don't always say the right thing. Just like I don't always say the right thing either.
