No one can get mad about your feelings. They are yours, personally. I sometimes get worried about what i am getting myself into. it seems to me that for some it is ideal, and for others it sucks. So, I am leaping in armed with that knowledge. If it works as it should I will be beyond thrilled. I hope that I am smart enough and intuned enough to it. If it doesn't than I will deal. i really like my surgeon. He is the surgeon who circumcised my sons! He didn't screw that up, so I'll try not to worry too much!

This is a positive in my book, too.

I'm so sorry. I do believe that you can do everything in your power and still have a problem. It is so easy to blame the failures on the people rather than the procedure or equipment. I hope your surgery goes well for you.

sweet pete, thanks for sharing your blog.

Yeah, on the 299! If I am there on Monday, I will be thrilled, too! Good luck, happy thoughts, prayers and all going out for the Christmas Eve folk. hope that doesn't offend.

Good thoughts for a great day, Hello Toes!!!

that is terrible. I have far too great a fear of dying to riskk the stupid thing at all! I don't think they have a choice really about honesty. I suspect it is a legal issue, rather than moral. I hope that all goes well for you! Are you feeling ok? I really like that my doc sees it as a tool for weight loss. He has required a diet, but it is reasonable, and doesn't seem to be based on his reputation for success, but on a healthy, maintained weight loss. I'd rather quick and easy, but i've learned that deosn't work for me!

Hmmmm. Interesting that you have different stats. That makes next to no sense. Surgeon didn't have much he could add to the info. I'm still scared. But I am sure it will be fine.
-
I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time! I hope you get some relief soon. eta: if you cant' get a hold of your doc, and have no instructions, I'd follow the lapband guidelines.

well, the odds are with you. Good job. I hope to do as well after my banding on Monday. I was just terribly shocked at their numbers because I know how numbers are used. My final surgeon appt. is this afternoon. I know he will just give the standard "risks to every procedure' speech. I wish there were some real reassurance.

I take it, then, that denial is how people get past it. That and blaming the victim. I am just more prone to think things through.

I figure that these ones, put out by the manufacturer, are not skewed negatively. Why would they do that? This is the study they funded. It is probably skewed in their favor, rather than against. That is the reality of stats. Yes, I do work with stats for a living. I know how they can be manipulated to say what you want to say.

The lapband info. A surgical aid in the treatment of morbid obesity. Labband system information for patients. pg. 7. "In the study 25% of the patients had their Lapband system removed, 2/3rds of which were following adverse events." This is their official literature that I have to sign to read, and sign read.

I have 3 boys. It scares me too. And some people just react to the anesthetic. Risk is a part of the procedure.

Gaining weight to so insurance will pay for Lap Band
Marine mom replied to mondk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
because lying is always the best answer. -
While this is true, I have a far less chance of dying on monday, or even in the next 8 years while my kids are growing up, than I am due to the anesthesia/surgery.
-
It can't be done. I checked, because I am a big scaredy cat.

Maybe it wasn't for that reason. That person is on their own journey. kwim? Maybe they just have a cold. In other words, be at peace and happy for yourself. my opinion, of course! I have my last appt. tomorrow, and am scheduled for Monday. I am glad I didn't know about the arterial blood draw!!!! Good thoughts for Thursday for you!

scared of saggy skin!!!
Marine mom replied to lydialynch's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 26 i lost a great deal of weight. saggy skin wasn't an issue. fwiw. -
I have had fibro for 20 years. I started on Savella in September, and it has changed my life. I was nauseous for the first month, and an increase in migraines, but the decrease in pain, and the positive feeling from the increase of norepinephrines has made me a different person. I had tried every antidepressant out there for the fibro, and every one before this left me agitated. Hope you don't mind the post from a newbie. I am just amazed at feeling decent for the first time in years.

Gaining weight to so insurance will pay for Lap Band
Marine mom replied to mondk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry. I wasn't asking because I thought they should disqualify you. I was just wondering what your doc says about them and the ability to lose weight while on them. As I said when I was on steroids, there was nothing that could have kept me from eating. I would have just cheated. It was such a desperate need to eat. I know a couple of bipolar meds cause some of the same issues. I saw a child gain 40 lbs. in 2 months when placed on a particular med. -
Gaining weight to so insurance will pay for Lap Band
Marine mom replied to mondk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, should all surgeries be covered? There have to be some guidelines. And, I am with those who think it it stupid to intentionally gain weight. So sue me. OP, that said, are you off the meds that caused the initial weight gain? And what does your doc say about that link, the potential for loss, and your illness? If you can't lose while on the meds how will that change if you continue to take them? I know that if I was on meds that caused weight gain, as I have been, that I could not quit eating even with a surgery, kwim? I'd have found a way to cheat the system. -

Feeling anxiety about surgery
Marine mom replied to a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anasthesia is one of my ultimate fears. I don't know how I will deal with that. 2 weeks to either worry or find peace! I'm so glad you found peace. It gives me hope!
