    Any July Bandsters out there?

Hey everyone, it's now been exactly 1 week since being banded and I am feeling mahvelous. I wouldn't even know I had it were it not for the incisions...I'm down 12 lbs since surgery. I find that my 8oz protein shakes or creamy soups keep me full for 2 to 3 hrs and getting my water in is also no problem. Thankfully I am able to take standard size drinks and not just little sips, because I have always been a huge water drinker and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to just take sips  Glad to hear that everyone else is having a great start on their journey and best of luck to those who's journey is about to begin!

    Any July Bandsters out there?

Hi everyone! Well, I had surgery yesterday and everything went wonderfully! I lost 14 lbs during 2 week preop diet and that's a good start. Today I am in no pain and am sore, just feeling like I've done a ton of ab work. :tongue2:. No gas pains or anything. Can't tell about incisions yet, as the gauze is still on...but overall, I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Today I have been soooo thirsty but am limited to 4 ounces of clear liquids per hour...and that's not quencing my thirst! So if that's the biggest gripe, then I consider myself blessed!

    July Jewels 2009

Hey Christina! I am 7/1 as well, and I think you are the only other person with the same date as me! YAY!! Just think...about one week from today is the beginning of our new lives! :bored:

EA Sports Active Personal Trainer for the Wii

aivey - That's a good idea ... i will try that out! agentcmc13 - I would NOT recommend the Jillian Michaels game... its terrible.
  6. Good....Im HUNGRY! LOL Have week 1 of the preop liquids down...one more week to go! Woooot woooooot!! I've lost 9 lbs so far...and its been years since ive seen that kind of thing...but gurrrrrl - i am hungry. It's really hard when you have no physical restrictions or anything. Energy levels have been off too....

    Any July Bandsters out there?

I'm getting excited! One week from today is the big day! Can't think of a better way to start the month...I am a week into the liquid preop diet and am down 9 lbs as of this morning, but have definitely discovered that my energy levels are awful in this phase and to be perfectly honest, havent done any cardio whatsoever. Just a little strength/resistance training...anyone else on liquids feeling drained?

EA Sports Active Personal Trainer for the Wii

Got the EA Active...leg strap was too tight...it would fit initially but as soon as I began running, squatting etc it would pop off. I used the "extension" (which i found it comical that its intent is to shorten the band, not lengthen it!) but still too small. I guess i will need to go find some industrial strength velcro and see what i can rig up...but i have now added to my list of goals that are "non scale victories" ..... leg strap that fits without extender...and STAYS on.:sneaky:

EA Sports Active Personal Trainer for the Wii

I have been wanting to get this because i grew bored with Wii Fit..but I am concerned the leg strap may not be large enough?! I am 5'8" and wear a size 22...i have NO idea what my thigh measurement would be, or where to even measure. LOL
  10. Oh, I meant to also add that I would love to go to the saturday group next month and we can get through this together! do you know the date?

  11. I know...i was completely irate. My insurance by also requires 30 days to have time to review/approve, but they - and from what i hear - most, are much much faster. They told me the same "couple weeks" for 2 months over there....Kim G. was great and tolerated all my harrassing calls :) They were also training someone new on the medical records side so hopefully you wont go through the same things i did...definitely keep me posted! I am going tomorrow morning @ 9am to "train" for the walk for obesity but probably not the picnic....I havent been to the saturday support group before, i usually hit the Monday night one instead.

  12. You are not going to like what i tell you on the timing! :) I finished all my preop tests, evals, etc. on 2/17. Their office didnt send it to my insurance until 4/21. It took forever for him to review it all and write his letter of recommendation, etc. Good news is the insurance approved it within 2 days of getting the package. it was BEYOND frustrating. I broke down into tears many times out of irritation. :)

Class was good, reiteration of many things we have been taught along the way. I had mostly bypass patients in my session so there was alot of focus on that, also because its the most complicated medically speaking....

  13. That's great news! Hopefully it goes quickly and you get scheduled before you know it! Things are good....I had my preop class yesterday and start my liquids next Wed...experiencing a little bit of the "last supper" mentality :) I'm excited, nervous, but ready! I have another appt with him next Tues. and the next time I see him it'll be surgery day!

    Any July Bandsters out there?

Hey all! I have made my "face" known on a few other July threads, but thought for good measure I would post here too. My surgery is July 1 and liquids begin June 17th....and i am happy to know that my "last supper" behavior is more common than I thought...cuz lemme tell ya! It's been ON! But it has accomplished what I wanted it too....I am so sick to death of fast foods and deserts that I am in some twisted way looking forward to liquids! I am super excited to share in this with each of you! :w00t:

    July Jewels 2009

Somehow I totally missed this thread! :w00t: I am July 1st here in Charlotte...getting very very excited! Just had my preop class yesterday and start my 2 weeks of liquids next Wednesday. Please add me to the list of "July Jewels"
  16. Hey there! Just wanted to check in on ya and see how things are going with Dr V and the process!

  17. I'm excited but a little overwhelmed, which i hope is normal :) I had that preop class yesterday which was informative. I'm just a little anxious about post op meals (or lack thereof) since i travel alot for work and 9 times out of 10 that involves eating a meal with a clients, and i would hate to have to go through that before I am back to regular foods....but I will cross that bridge when I come to it. I start my liquids next Wed and have been slowly easing into it this week, only eating a meal at dinnertime and drinking shakes, etc the rest of the day.

    July 2nd

:frown: I'm with you there! Any suggestions anyone? I am soooo uncreative....
  19. Holy crap that is AWESOME!! I'm so proud of you!! How are your incisions healing? I plan to go to the meeting next Monday, would be great to meet you there if you go! Keep me posted on how you are doing!

  20. do you go to Dr V's support groups? i typically go to the Monday night ones @ Myers Park

  21. July 1st! WOOT WOOT!! How are you holding up?

  22. Did you take anyone to those pre-op meetings where they suggest you need a "support person?" My Mom will be my surgery day support person- but she's in FL. You think its OK without taking someone?

  23. Hey everyone! I will admit while this is my first post, I have been a "lurker" for months since beginning my research stage of this life changing decision. I went to my first seminar back in Aug 2008 and am THRILLED to report that I found out yesterday that I have been approved by insurance! Reading everyone's stories (good and bad) and seeing all the love and support offered up here definitely helped me make some choices and gave me comfort that I will have a "family" who completely understands my experience! I grew up in Florida but have been in Charlotte, NC for 10 years now. HUGE NASCAR fan, love being with and making new friends, enjoy all types of music, traveling, among other things. I really look forward to getting to know you all and thank you for making this board so fantastic!
  24. The process of testing wasn't any problem at all...the hard part was waiting forever after it was all done...I replied on the Intro thread with my experience so far...but i will just hope that your process is faster! Aside from that, the team there is amazing and it's all worth any frustrations to date....

    Hello from N. Carolina!

Hey Desiree, good to "meet" you! It is great that another Dr V patient is checking in on here. I hope your process moves faster than mine ...I just got my surgery date yesterday but finished all my pre-op appts and tests back on Feb 17th...it took them about 2 months after that to finalize my file and send off to insurance - but my insurance only took a week to approve - then it was another 2 weeks (yesterday) to get my date for 6 weeks from now... I know there are monthly support group meetings, but I'm thinking that with the growing number of us Charlotteans here it would be cool to have an informal meetup every so often to support each other...I KNOW I could benefit from that.
