a non-supportive spouse...
thinneranniesoon replied to katwmn63's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW, I don't know that I would have been able to keep something as drastic as this from my husband when I was married, or my boyfriend now. Even though I am independent, I am also honest. A large percentage of relationships do not survive after one person has surgery, i could not imagine not having the support system. Both my boyfriend and ex husband are happy for me, and there for me. My surgery is in 10 days. -
Hey boss. Ok so I have to say, I had a banana nut protein shake today, it was AMAZING. This liquid diet is going to make me nuts though. however only 3 more weeks of it to go.

Anyone get away w/o having upper GI?
thinneranniesoon replied to AJW2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My mother, who had Chrones Disease, had many endoscopy and colonoscopy done. They always did them same visit and she was out every time. My daughter had to have the endoscopy and she also was out. -
I am NOT crazy, the psychologist said so today. Had my pre-op consult, and she is typing up the letter today, giving it to the insurance lady and my paperwork will be submitted to UHC tomorrow. I also had my appt with the cardiologist, and he said all is good, my ekg was great, blood pressure good, and ready to go. He has no problems clearing me for surgery. SO... from there i had all my labwork done. Now just to meet with the pulmonologist and then get the upper gi done. All that I have that is going to take time is the esophogeal motility test, and i am not happy with the people over there, so we will see about that. ANYWAY, hoping to hear soon exactly when I am going in. OH, I lost 2 ounces since last Thursday's appt, and I even had eggs, bacon and potatoes today for breakfast before my appt. hmmm.

thinneranniesoon replied to thinneranniesoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Went back and had the other blood test done today to check my cholestoreal. Then I finally was able to get the numbers necessary for the insurance company, I called and NOW, they want a 5 year weight history. Well I haven't been to the drs every year for 5 years. I have had several er visits, but they don't always weight you. I have to call the hospitals and find out if i can get a copy of my records, and hopefully they will. OTHERWISE, I am screwed. -
This is gonna be a long hot summer
thinneranniesoon posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Without fruit, especially watermelon, frozen oranges, and frozen peaches. I am a Florida girl, and I am used to having watermelon, oranges, peaches, plums and such in the freezer ready to eat at anytime, better than an icepop. And now I see that I will not be allowed fruit until 6-12 months after surgery, after approximatly 75% of my excess has been lost. Has anyone else had this type of restriction from their doctors post lap band surgery? That seems like such a long time for such good items. Take my ice cream, my Pasta, and even my rice, but my fruit, now those are fighting words. -

peel it, break it into slices, then put in a zip lock bag and freeze. if you do it with seedless its even better. i use them as ice cubes in my drinks, gives that little added flavor, instead of lemon all the time. -

Nope, i went to the nutrition seminar on Thursday, and the way it is in the book 2 weeks prior to surgery, liquid diet 24 hours prior to surgery, stop Protein Shakes, Clear Liquids only. post op day 1 in hospital, 1 oz Water every hour, no ice chips, if well tolerated can begin phase 1 phase 1--- sugar free & clear liquids for 2 or 3 days phase 2--- sugar free& liquid & high Protein shakes for approx 2 weeks phase 3--- soft/ pureed, high protein foods, for approx 6-8 weeks phase 4--- high protein foods and added vegi's, this may begin 2 months after surgery and continue until reached 75% of excess weight loss phase 5---high protein foods, and added complex carbs in the form of whole grains, starchy vegis and fruit, may begin once you have lost 75% of excess weight and continues for lifetime, may take 6-12 months after surgery to reach this point. i am fine with it all, it is only the fruit that is going to be hard. -
SO EXCITED, I LOVE MY JOB and UHC
thinneranniesoon posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
SO EXCITED, I can't hardly see straight. I have new insurnace that started on May 1, it is with UHC. WELL... i called yesterday and today and was advised both times that doc needs to write a predetermination letter stating why the procedure is necessary, send that with my records from his office which he has from 2005 and now, and I will know within 30 days. I am told by the insurance lady in the office that we normally hear within the week. I could be banded by the beginning of June if all goes well. I have the psych appt on friday and the Nut and Cardiologist on Monday. I am also having the esophogeal thing done as soon as it is scheduled. I am so excited right now that I just want to jump for joy. -
I went to the baby department at walmart and purchased some cute little bowls and dishes, and even sippy cups, kids thought i was going overboard when i even picked up the spoon and fork for myself. BUT HEY, it will help right?

Anyone have United Healthcare???
thinneranniesoon replied to pephlin's topic in Insurance & Financing
Had my appt with the surgeon today, things are moving along. I have my follow up psych consult next week, as well as my follow up with the nutritionist, as I did all this at their office in 2005 before humana denied me. Insurance lady said that UHC is actually one of easiest to be approved with, and i should be looking at july. YAHOOO -
ok, so this is a long time coming. I am new to this site, but everyone seems so friendly. In 2003 I started looking into RNY. I had completed every step required by Humana at the time, including multiple telephone calls to them to be sure it was covered, well 5 days before the surgery date, it was cancelled. NO COVERAGE. I was upset to say the least, had just finalized my divorce a couple days later, and let the ball drop. Fast forward after 4 years with no health insurance, I do have coverage now, AND it covers bariatric. I have continued to do research all these years, and have decided the lapband is the way to go. I was able to find all my paperwork from 2005 and emailed the dr office last night to find out what i have to do in order to start over. and I was actually called this morning and given an appt with the surgeon on Monday for a consult. I am so happy you can't understand. OF COURSE... the policy I have now is with Aetna and ends May 1, we have a new policy with United HealthCare that will start on May 1, and it will also cover the lapband. At least I can get started and use Aetna for the first appt and whatever else I can before the UHC starts.

Anyone have trouble/get stuck with fingernails?
thinneranniesoon replied to lotzasunshine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As a fellow nail biter, I have to say thank you for asking this question. While yes it is a bad habit, so is smoking, gambling and judging other people for their bad habits. I have always been a biter, and even getting artificial nails won't do the trick. -

thinneranniesoon replied to pephlin's topic in Insurance & Financing
I will have UHC as of May 1, I can't wait. I have Aetna now, and the company I work for does cover bariatric, and will with UHC also. That was a requirement before I agreed to pay another year of insurance premiums. I went to orientation 2 weeks ago, and am calling to find out when my first appt is with the surgeon tomorrow. No referrals needed.
