  1. Never having been put under anesthesia before, I'm not sure of the side effects. Since my surgery I have found that my sense of smell is so acute that things I found "unpleasant" before down right make me gag now. Is that normal? Also, aside from the 2 nights in the hospital that I asked for a sleeping "pill" I have not been able to sleep more than one or two hours at time and when I do sleep I have the weirdest dreams. I haven't had a restful night since I got home so tonight I am seriously considering a Tylenol PM or a benadryl. I think that is another reason I'm running out of steam quicker than normal. Anyone else have these problems?
  2. I miss being able to guzzle down a nice cold bottle of Water too -- I'm lucky to take one or 2 sips before being full. I know this may pass as I am only 3 weeks out from surgery, but I'm so tired of feeling thirsty all the time. Dr. Aceves told me that everyone will overheat a few times - 3-5 before they learn to listen to their body. So maybe there is hope for you yet?
  3. So glad she's doing good -- tell her we're all happy she's doing well. I do better with warm things in the morning and prefer cold in the evening -- not sure why, but that's what tastes bests at those time. Will try for room 522 or something - although it sounds as though it's gonna be a full wing from those that are having surgery that week.

    65-70 lbs to lose

I wish all I had to lose was 60-75 lbs... I'm looking at 100 ... WE will get there though with the sleeve as a tool ... I have faith we will succeed. One week and counting .... try to keep yourself busy and not stress out about the coming surgery.
  5. :001_wub::lol0: a very apt description!!! I love it!!!:sad0::lol0::lol0:
  6. My hairdresser today told me this: Your hair is basically a protector of your body and when you cut down or cut own Protein or other "shocks" to your body, that your hair will be the last to take whatever your other organs don't need and thus will fall out. She explained much better than this as she learned about it a nutritional class she took. She said my hair had barely grown in four weeks (surgery was 3 weeks ago) and if I didn't start getting in my protein, it would start falling out -- so far it has not -so I am hoping I get my nectar samples soon and can tolerate them and start packing in the protein. I don't want to lose my hair!

    Dr Aceves pre-op diet?

She meant to say 30 grams of carbohydrates a day ... protein is unlimited. When are you going to see Dr. Aceves? I'm so happy for you :001_wub:

I did it, i did it, i did it

I can relate -- it's not excruitiatingly painful yet - although it may get there in time -- if it gets too painful, I'll stop riding and resort to walking. My orthopod is trying to get me to at least 55 before having to have bialteral knee replacements ... so far he's done pretty good - only certain activities really bother them and I'm sure taking off the weight won't hurt anything either!

    Weight Loss and Hair Loss

I would think curly hair would be fun -- just a bit of styling gel, scrunch and run ... and when it grows out a bit, get some of those steam curlers that set in like 15 minutes and you can use the large ones and have bigger curls or a flat iron to straighten them out -- there are alot of options out there that await you! :001_wub:

    Diuretics

Check with the pharmacist and see if they you can crush your pill. If so, then you can mix it with a little Water and take it ...I doubt you'll be allowed to drink anything by mouth until the day after your surgery though. If you talk to your surgeon, it's possible they can give you something in your IV for swelling. I didn't have any problems, but then again, I only tend to swell if there's been too much sodium in my food.

    i am struggling here

And I sit here wondering if I AM ever going to get to the stage of being able to eat solid food again.
  14. No, I've never had the GERD and the ecess salvia -- in fact I've not had very many episodes of acid reflux at all ... just the excessive mucus the 2 weeks after surgery and now occassionally if I eat the wrong thing and it get "stuck" ... never knew Water or liquid could get stuck -- go figure!
  15. I had the foaming right after surgery -- Dr. Aceves said it is very uncommon with this type of surgery (yes, I know, leave it to me) and that basically my stomach was producing too much saliva. I had to stop eating and drinking 3 hours before bedtime and eventually it passed. It has happened a few times since, but mostly when I eat something too sweet, which if it's sweet at all, is generally too sweet. At least now I can lay flat and sleep and got get awakened by all the saliva in my mouth and a hacking cough.
  16. 8 pounds is great and more than I lost on my pre-op diet. I do not KNOW how you are doing liquids for 2 weeks or even why ... I know the whole liver shrinking thing; however, I ate real food - high Proteins, low carbs and my liver was perfect so says the doc on the day of surgery -- maybe you should do liquids every other day and try high protein/low carbs on the off days? Just to keep yourself sane -- because it seems like an eternity when you're on the post-op liquid phase -- mine was 10 days clear; 10 days full and then 10 days mushies ... thank goodness I'm into mushies now -- Hang in there and YES you will lose with the surgery. Don't even let that thought enter your head. I'm 3 weeks out of surgery tomorrow and have lost 21 lbs. -- that is 1 lb. per day -- Hang in there and if it helps - VENT away!

    i am struggling here

WOW -- you must really be craving something more than liquids to actually want to eat baby cereal ... hope you get to mushies or solids soon! Or WATCH OUT Emerson!!
  18. I had acid reflux before surgery - not all the time, just depended on what I ate and whether it agreed with me or not ... my acid reflux is the same since the surgery. I take the 20 mg. of Nexium mups daily in the morning as Dr. Aceves recommends and will do so for 3 months and if I still have acid reflux, will treat it as I did before the sugery - with Nexium and/or Zantac on an as needed basis.
  19. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.... I think I love you Elisabeth! LOL ... I will definitely try it as oh I have missed my morning cup of coffee
  20. Judy - SO GLAD you finally heard something from someone. I am sure you are relieved about that. Can't answer your question about a mini-bypass as I have no idea what that even is. Although I am sure one of our nurses will know what you are talking about and will advise.

    i am struggling here

Went to Taco Bell today for frijoles and cheese -- can't even tell that I made a dent in the tiny bowl I got. I got an order of sour cream and guacomole and total order was $1.61 ... glad it wasn't very expensive, considering I ate 3 bits and couldn't eat any more. My brain says yes yes yes but stomach says no no no ... and I've listened to listen to my stomach because the alternative isn't fun at all.

    i am struggling here

Well you may be on solid foods in another week ... I'll probably still be on mushies, as I'm not able to get more than 2 or 3 bites of anything down and can't even imagine trying to get solid foods down. I have to admit this surgery and the post-op have definitely killed any desire in me to eat -- in fact, I dread getting hungry and needing to eat because it takes me longer to figure out what to eat and to fix it than it does for me to get full. Very discouraging for me at this time. Hoping over time it will change; and the sooner the better!
  23. I never took any pain medication after the first night in the hospital; didn't need any. I also made sure before I had the surgery that my PCP would continue any follow-up that needed to be done. I determined that if I had a leak or something major, then I would find a surgeon to treat me here or drive back to Mexicali. Given that Dr. Aceves has never had a leak, I didn't give it all that much time or consideration.
  24. OH so there is hope for me that this super-sonic smelling won't last? Thank GOD!
