    Hard Time With Food

This is a quote of WASa's that she responded to when another member was having the same/similar issues. It hit home with me - maybe it will with you too ... Good luck with your struggle - if you believe it you can achieve it!

    My story

Welcome Steve - you will find all sort of information, suggestions and support on this site. I am Bearded's fiance and had my surgery on 6/12 with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali, MX. I have lost about 28 lbs. since the surgery and although I have had a few issues, nothing major, I believe the sleeve is the tool I need to get thin and stay there. I've had a weight problem my entire life and have probably lost a 1000 lbs. during my adult life - I'm tired of that. Good luck to you with your surgery and don't hesitate to ask anything. We're all here for you.
  3. Ron, I'm sure if you start a new thread, you will receive many responses. Welcome again and hope you find all the answers you're looking for here.

    Pre-op diet

They are yummy and a great way to get in liquids if you have a difficult time drinking, like I do, after surgery.

Well that's a good thought, too and that way you can take your time and figure out what you want to do with all of his furniture. Good thinking Girl!
  6. That's GREAT Daisy - Congrats!
  7. You'll be in our thoughts and prayers and soon you'll be a sleeve sister and on your way to a new you!

    Fitness Center

Congrats Judy - how fun. I belonged to a lady's gym that was like Curves, however they ended up going out of business -- it was fun because it was all women and everyday they did something different with the machines to mix things up - it wasn't the same ole thing everyday like Curves. I was sad when I received the letter they were closing their doors. Keep it up and have FUN ... you'll be on the good road by the time you have your surgery.

    Making Exercise a Habit

That's why, for me, it's a good thing my girlfriend is on my way home -- I have to stop at her house before going home - once I'm home - forget it -- I'm done for the evening!

    Prayers needed!

Bob is fine - and no, he did almost all the driving, stubborn man - guess he figured I wouldn't drive 85 the entire way - he did end up gaining us about an hour in time. He finally gave in and turned the wheel over to me about 1.5 hours from home. He was thankful to be able to sleep in our own bed last night and said he tossed and turned until about 1:30 and then slept - I have to go to work today; however, I won't wake him before I leave and hopefully he'll feel rested when he wakes. Thank all of you for asking.

    Prayers needed!

Thanks everyone -- she was on a cpap machine when I went in to see her last and unable to talk, so I left her my email and contact information and asked her to keep me posted as to how she was doing. I also texted Dr. Campos to ask how she was after they went back into surgery yesterday afternoon about 3:30. I haven't received a response yet. Once I hear, I will be sure and let you all know. Thank you for your prayers I know they will help.

    Post op..I need help!

I had to take 40 mg of nexium the first couple of weeks I was home -- that seemed to help - I took 20 in the am and 20 in the pm ... sorry I didn't think to tell you that when we were at the hospital - I think my brain was shutdown due to boredom! Sometimes I have to take nexium and zantac and that will cut out the acid reflux. I take one nexium and 2 zantac. Hope that helps! Glad to hear you made it home okay!

Hey All, I am one of You!

Welcome to VST. I think the gurgling noise after your eat is a combination of the gas from surgery, early on, and then your stomach adjusting to being smaller and having smaller portions. I don't really know for sure. I know that I am 4 weeks out and I still get the gurglies - not every time I eat, but more often and not. I assume, as with the fact I belch like a sailor without any warning and was told that this would go away with time, that so will the gurglies. I would say it is NOT hunger. When I get hunger pains, it's not gurglie, it's almost "painful" ... not sure if this helps your or confuses you more.!

Where is your brother in all of this, may I ask? Doesn't he live there in Phoenix where your dad lived? If you're going to have to do it on your own, then I would suggest Craig's list - I've sold several things on Craig's list with good luck and usually within a day or two of posting it. You can have them respond to you by email on craig's list before giving them any information such as address and phone so you know they are serious. Wish I could help you more!
  16. Right after surgery, I got the hiccup - and that was great... now I get nothing until I've had too much. Then, like Daisy, I'm miserable and have the excessive mucus or I end up throwing up. And the thing is, right now I am only able to eat about 4 or 5 little bites (with a baby spoon) and so it is hard for me to judge what is too much. It's very frustrating, but I'm sure over time it will get better and easier to determine my full point.

    Making Exercise a Habit

I used to go in the evenings, too and then when I moved to the other side of town, and joined a new gym, it was so packed at night I would get up and go at 5:30 am -however with vegas being a 24 hour town and all the different shifts, it got to the point that even at 5:30 or 6 am you couldn't find a parking spot and had to wait on some equipment -- I hated that -- so that is why I am excited to be able to go to my girlfriend's house and work out in her "gym" on my way home from work -- then once I get home, I can be in for the night.
  18. That is now my newest most used phrase as well...sometimes they just pop out of me with no warning -- if I know they are coming, I at least have enough time to cover my mouth and the sound is softer; but I do it alot. I asked Dr. Campos if I will always be belching like a sailor or if that would subside and he said, eventually it will subside. Thank goodness.

    I'm failing

Rosebud - have you tried the string cheese? I found that if I chew it really well I am able to keep it down and it's 6 gms. of protein and 3.5% of saturated fat and less than 1 gm of carbs.

    Calling Vegasangel....

Thanks Susan. He is doing better today - he was up about every hour all night long, but didn't vomit, thank goodness. He is tired today and sore and wants the drainage bag out. He's antsy so I think he's feeling a bit better. Soon2BSkinny and Roseyandmusic left this morning about 7:30 so am sure they'll be posting soon. Both looked good! We're supposed to head home today sometime too - hoping we're able to as I am supposed to go to work tomorrow morning.

    Accompanying me...or not?

Have you talked to her about it? Have you told her that even though she may not support the surgery, you need her to support and believe in you and that having her there is important to you if she can support you, but if she can't you'd prefer her not to be there for the surgery as you need all positive energy around you for this? It is a big HUGE decision and you need support from those who love and care about you. I hope she comes around and can understand that this is the last chance you have to take your life back and get healthy.
  22. I think that is an AWESOME idea Susan -- he would love it - we could do it at the Lucerna and have him come for dinner or something -- what a GREAT GREAT GREAT idea.

That's great about the ticket credit Daisy. As for your dad's stuff, there are companies out there that will come and appraise everything and others that will buy the entire estate if you don't want to have to hassle with Craig's list and selling items piece-meal. If you do go with Craig's list, I agree with Susan - have someone else there with you. Also, if possible move the items to the garage so they don't have to come into your house. Be sure you put on the ad SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY and CASH ONLY. There are a ton of scammers out there who say they will send their representative with a cashier's check and then when cash the check, it's bad - so you're out not only the furniture, but the money as well. We had that happen recently (not taking the check but people wanting to send the representative, etc.). One guy even offered us a $1000 "bonus" .... so just be VERY CAREFUL and stick to CASH ONLY!!! You can also call St. Vincent DePaul and they will come and pick everything up that you want to donate and give you a receipt for tax purposes.
  24. I have trouble swallowing all types of pills if they are any larger than my BC pill which is very tiny -- I have found that if I cut them into small pieces, and take them with yogurt they go down without getting stuck for very long. I've also learned that they go down easier if I take them in the evening instead of in the morning.
  25. I may try that for my situation, although Dr. Aceves says it is due to scar tissue. At this point, I'll give anything a try.
