  1. Yes, it is diverticulitis and can be quite painful - my mom had it and sometimes suffered greatly.

    VGS date August 18

What you need to remember is that you're not giving up all your favorite foods forever -- once you're back on solids, you can eat whatever you want; however, you just eat a much smaller portion. So, your favorite foods aren't gone forever, just temporarily -- hopefully that helps to avoid the "last meal" mentality and get you through the pre-op stage to surgery!

    Prayers needed!

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS I don't know all the details (yet); however, what I do know is that "N" was released this morning and appeared to be feeling and looking great when she was discharged. From what I know, she was given two units of blood and was released when she was stable. If I hear anything more, I will let you know. Thank you again for all your prayers!

I know there have been a few posters on here who have had an open procedure; however, I believe that was due to the fact they'd had other surgery in the abdominal cavity and their doctors were concerned about scar tissue. The majority have it done laprascopically. If you stick to a high protein/low carb (less than 30 gms) you should be able to keep any weight off and might even lose some weight before the surgery. Ruthi and I had our surgery on the same day - June 12th. Eyfura had her surgery on the June 10th and my fiance, BeardedItalian had his surgery on July 11th - and we all had them in Mexicali by Dr. Aceves. As long as you have a desk job or at least not something high task you should be able to return to work within 3-4 days after your release from the hospital. Dr. Aceves keeps you in the hospital for 3 nights after surgery.

    July Sleever's

No that's not cheating - the broth would be considered a clear liquid. You can add in SF Jello-O tomorrow.

Welcome BigNana - I had my surgery on 6/12/09 and went back to work the following Friday. I have not lost any hair and hope I don't. The only pain I had was where the drainage was and that felt more like very sore muscles. I am having some minor problems with some spasming; however, I'm told that only happens in about 1% of the patients. Ask away and someone (or lots of someones) will answer your questions.

    I'm home!!!!!!!!

Different doctors, different post-op diets -- Mine was 10 days clear, 10 days full (that's where the milk comes in) and 10 days mushies ...

    July Sleever's

Forget about getting in the 60-70 gms. of protein - I am on mushies and still can't get in all of my protein, although it is easier than it was on clears and fulls. Bearded doesn't seem to be having any trouble getting in his protein though - he can tolerate the protein drinks, where I can't. He also doesn't have any trouble swallowing either - which makes it easier!

    Love the Sleeve

Welcome Colorado Chick - read all the posts and you'll learn LOTS...and what you don't see - ASK!
  15. No, you're not the only one - I haven't been able to get into chat for over a week. I sent two emails to alex; however, they've gone non responded too so not sure what is going on. Am sure he will get it fixed when he can - at least I hope so!
  16. It's a word now if it wasn't before. I didn't feel sore at all inside, just where the drainage bag was and once they took it out, it was more like sore muscles. You're lucky if you can swallow your pills -- I still have to cut mine into tiny pieces in order to be able to get them down. Keep sip, sip, sipping - that is so important! You should post your experience - good or bad - everyone should know what might happen -- not everyone's experiences are wonderful -- I'm 4 weeks out and still have problems and have posted about it -- everything helps someone. Obviously, that is your choice in the end though.

    a question

Here is some additional information if interested: Gastric bypass surgery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (from Mac) " The mini-bypass is not one of the surgeries that the ASMBS has put their stamp of approval on. It's dangerous, for one thing. Sometimes insurance will pay for a DS and the surgeon goes in and can't actually completely it due to scar tissue or something. So they just do the sleeve stomach part and you get no malabsorption."
  18. Susi - Sorry to hear you had a bad experience - that has to suck. I couldn't sleep for the first week I was home - try taking some liquid benadryl - it really helped me to sleep. I'd sleep maybe 90 minutes - and it wasn't restful as I had the most horrid dreams. The benadryl took care of that and after taking it for a couple of nights, I began to sleep through the night. As for the 3T of broth - that's okay - just drink it often - they told me 2oz every 15 minutes for the first 3 days. Just focus on getting in as much liquid as you can so you don't get dehydrated. Where are you sore? Did they give you anything for pain? Hang in there, the worst is over the best is yet to come.
  19. I've heard both ways - that those items are sufficient and that they aren't. I would suggest calling the immigration office and asking them or checking out the website on line for passports and see if they have make mention of it on the website -- if not, there is a number you can call for answers. Better to be safe than sorry -- and who knows, you might have your passport by 8/4.

    i am alive!

Glad you are doing well -- hiatal hernia's are very common and apparently easy for them to fix while they are in there doing the surgery. Enjoy your water and Clear liquids and remember to follow your post-op diet and you'll be on the road to recovery in no time.

I think your body looks great and I'd go for the boob job - if anything is left over, then maybe lip on your inner thighs - but if not, you look great. That's my opinion.

  24. woo hoo girl - that has got to be an AWESOME feeling -- I'm with Ruthi - can see your smile from here and see that your feet are a few inches off the ground. Keep up the great work! It's got to be a GREAT feeling that is for sure!:thumbup::thumbup:
  25. Penny I am sure that if you get there at 10:45, Ernesto will wait for you -- you may not need to check your luggage as you don't need that much while you are in Mexico so if you have carryon only, your departure will be even quicker. Once your date is scheduled, Nina will send you several emails with what you will need to bring, buy, etc., etc. - if you have any questions after that, you can ask her or us ... several of us have had our surgery in Mexicali!
