Saying "hi"-introducing myself...
Malaika replied to Chancie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
WELCOME CHANCIE! Great WEIGHT loss - congrats. You'll find all kinds of support here - we're all in the same boat so to speak and so we all know where you're coming from -- don't hesitate to ask any questions or hey - give us advice - there are a lot of newbies here - me included. Looking forward to hearing more from you soon! -
From a size 22/24 to a 4/6, Band to Sleeve
Malaika replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What the heck was all of that??????? -
When I had my barium swallow while Bearded was having his surgery, I still had some swelling where he fixed my hernia - also some scar tissue; however, the worst is that where he made the repair, everytime I eat or drink, I get a spasm (on the fluoriscope it looks like about the width of a piece of string) so everything sits above the spasm until it decides to relax and let my food pass - Dr. Campos told me to stay on mushies for another 4 to 6 weeks to let the swelling go down. Dr. Aceves said the spasming and scar tissue would dissipate; however could take up to 6 months. I am glad it will eventually go away; however, in the interim, I really don't like feeling the way I do - it's almost to the point that I even hate to think about eating. :001_smile: I use Campbell's low sodium tomato soup - in fact, all the Soups I purchased were Campbell's. I didn't look at the sugars quite truthfully -- I was just looking for things I could get down.

I was wondering the same thing! Fess up Amanda!

9 SPEEDS - I can't imagine - even on "hi" speed I have to cover the top of the cup or I get sprayed -- with 9 speeds it'd be on the ceiling! Let us know how the ice cream turns out -- and what your recipe is.

WOW - sure wish I'd asked this question weeks ago - you've given me some great ideas on how to get in my protein - even though I am on "mushies" and will be for another 6 weeks, I am still struggling with the protein as I can't eat very much at a time ...THANKS again - I will be grocery shopping this weekend for sure! I think the lack of protein has fogged my brain and it isn't firing on all cylinders. Everything you said makes perfect sense.

Well I'd keep a mental journal and see if that is what happens - pain in the morning - eat - pain goes away ... you may have solved your own mystery ... sleeping in ... awwwwwwww ... what a luxury that was this morning -- I didn't get up until 8 am ...:001_smile:

Yes, the broth from the soup is a clear - just strain the noodles and chicken off and drink away -- you can do the same thing with vegetable soup too ... SF Jello is also considered a clear. So was tea.

Should sipping be getting easier?
Malaika replied to TennJenn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might want to check with Gaby or someone at Dr. A's office- however, that is what I was told -- and someone else on here posted the same thing. I'm sure you don't want to take like HUGE gulps but I'm also sure that once you can drink more at a time it's perfectly okay. I'll be glad when I get to that point - I'm so very tired of not being able to drink more than little sips .. this spasm thing is a real PITA!:001_smile: -
Do they subside after you "feed" them? If so that's probably what it is ... I've just begun to experience true hunger pains and it's definitely something that grabs your attention.

I haven't been a fan of any of the nectar samples, so I may have to purchase some different Crystal Light flavors to mix with them and see if that makes a difference. Bearded seems to be able to drink them with no trouble at all, so at least the samples won't be going to waste; in fact, I may need to order some more. Part of my problem is that I am still not able to drink very much at one time - just sips so it makes it tough to get much down -- popsicles are better as they just trickle down and don't seem to initiate a spasm. Has anyone made the nectar Protein drinks into popsicles? I bought a popsicle form - makes 10 at a time - so I may have to try that and see if I can get my protein in that way. I'll let you know.
-
Oh please ... let's not EVEN go there .. you'll get Bearded started and I have to live with him ... :001_smile:

Sorry Alicia - I wish I could help; however, I know nothing about appeals with an insurance company and wouldn't even know where to start ... somebody on here recently prepared an appeal - maybe she can help you at least know where to get started? Hope you find a way. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I would have to agree with you Susan!

It's great - comes with it's own tall cup (almost like a milkshake machine) only it's clear - and mine has 2 speeds -- you just put your "stuff" in there, put the stick blender in (be sure it's touching the bottom) and turn it on -- I even made "mashed" potatoes that way .... easy to clean up, too and takes up barely any space on your countertop.

a few questions (lapband to vsg)
Malaika replied to adavis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well if you can't get your insurance to cover it, there's always Dr. Aceves in Mexicali - his regular price is $9500 for a sleeve, not sure what a revision price is; others will know. He's absolutely fantastic. -
Reflections from a Fat Chick
Malaika replied to roseyandmusic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
No problem - Eyfura and I tried had to have dinner - we shared - however neither of us could eat much so we figured maybe Dad would like to eat too -- the tiny bit of chicken that I did have was wonderful ... and I would have loved to have had the salad - it looked so fresh! -
I just thought the magic bullet took up too much room either on the counter or in the cabinet and we have a very small kitchen with little counterspace, so it wasn't the best appliance for me. The Stick blender is the best by far.

The 2oz every 15 minutes was for the first 3 days only - at least that is what I was told. -
I'm lactose intolerant and never have had any trouble with yogurt. I bought Campbells cheddar potatoe soup and it was great. I also liked the tomato soup and the cream of chicken too.

Thanks for sharing -- I love a good bargain :hurray:

a few questions (lapband to vsg)
Malaika replied to adavis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am one of those that is taking longer to heal - however, I was not a revision - and my surgeon assures me the issues I am having will go away; however it may take up to 6 months -- I can live with that as long as I know it will go away. My surgeon said I was in the 1% of patients who have any complications -- and I wouldn't really call it a complication; just slower to heal. -
I think early on it's because coffee is considered a natural diuretic and you need to stay hydrated. I've been drinking coffee (about 1/2 cup) for a few weeks now and I'm doing fine. I know another on this site that started drinking coffee on day 6 following surgery.

By now you've figured it out though! Bearded is a dirty old man btw!
