That is GREAT news Kiki - congrats -- and it's not even that far away -- :biggrin0:

OH YEAH...Bearded and I were in Sam's last night and they were giving free samples - they were WAYYYY YUMMY ... and that is exactly why we didn't buy them - would be too easy to eat too many too often -- but they were definitely good -- I think they were like $9.38 for a big ole jar of them.

surgery 9/15 home 9/20 9/22 11:32 PM SOS!!!
Malaika replied to LAN2k's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try liquid benadryl for the "pinching" in your throat -- I didn't have thrush after surgery; however, I did have a constant "tickle" in my throat and everytime I laid down to sleep, I would start coughing. After 2-3 days of benadryl, that went away. -
New and looking for help
Malaika replied to Pink Stella's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The only after care you really need is a barium swallow at 3 months and blood work - and your PCP can take care of that for you. I talked to my PCP before the sleeve (I had my done in Mexicali) and he agreed to continue any aftercare for me afterwards. 200 miles is not all that far to travel if the surgeon is experienced in sleeve surgeries. -
Not for me - Ice cream won't even stay down for more than 10 minutes ... and the intestinal pains I get from milk are enough to think you need to go to the ER. I'll stick with magnesium, prunes, prune juice, pear juice or a small salad thanks!:biggrin0:

Can I eat too little on the Pre-op?
Malaika replied to barefootinablacksea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was lactose intolerant before the sleeve - however could tolerate milk in very small quantities - since my sleeve (6/12/09) I can't tolerate milk AT ALL. I can eat cheese though, thank goodness. I used to be able to eat frozen yogurt, but not now. I haven't tried regular yogurt yet - I keep buying it, but I'm afraid to try it. Luckily it doesn't go to waste as Bearded is able to eat it without any trouble. I have Calcium Vitamins I purchased and as soon as I'm able to swallow larger pills more easily, I will start taking them. Right now I eat cheese and take a multi-chewable Vitamin. -
WOW MAC - 1 year - HAPPY SURGAVERSARY! Is it amazing how far you've come? From what I've read, I think you've done awesome!

It's posted on here somewhere - not sure who posted it originally, but am so glad they did. 16 oz. container ricotta cheese 1 egg 1 C parmesan cheese (like I said the fresh grated tastes better) 1 box frozen spinach - thawed and squeezed dry. Mix all together, put in casserole dish, sprinkle another cup of cheese on top. Bake at 350 until bubbly (about 35-40 minutes). Serve with marinara sauce. Not sure what the stats are on it, as I'm too lazy this morning to get up and go in the kitchen and look at the recipe card. Enjoy!

Almost everything is better with cheese (IMO) -- LOL
-
That's why I prefer natural things like salad and prunes.
-
The ricotta bake is GREAT, better made with fresh grated parmesan. I made it with spinach the first time, the next time I added canned chicken (drained really well) and asparagus - it was runny due to the asparagus, but still tasted great. Very easy and quick and is great warmed up too.
-
Try prunes, prune juice, pear juice and/or some of those fiber products.
-
Welcome Nana - sorry to hear that the band is not working out for you -- I hope all goes well next week for you and that you get the OK for the sleeve. Keep us posted.

How exciting for you Cajun - can't wait to hear how it all goes - however, I know you'll be in great hands with Dr. Aceves and his staff. HUGS

Google it - wealth of information HEMP HEARTS? are the Most Concentrated and Best Balanced Source of Proteins, Essential Fats and Vitamins in Nature. Of equal importance, these desirable nutrients are not accompanied in Hemp Hearts with an excess of carbohydrates, sugars, and saturated fats--nutrients which are already eaten in excess and which in the long term have proven to be challenging to human health.

And that you have Tiffy - you are definitely a winner (by losing!)

My shoes -at least all the summer sandals (mostly mules) are too big and my feet slip in them if I have to walk any distance. I haven't tried any new shoes on yet, but am sure that I will no longer need a wide width and am hoping a smaller size.

Sometimes you can find good deals on them on HSN (or QVC), too.

Drainage, Leakage and Staples?
Malaika replied to barefootinablacksea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If there is a leak, the blue will show up in your drain bag (or will turn purple is there is any excess blood in the bag.) The next day is the radiographic test - fluroscope where you drink and the can see the path of your new stomach - that's the 3rd leak test Dr. Aceves does. The first is done while in surgery. -
Shaking all over!!
Malaika replied to Bornagainbabe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a doctor (not even close); however, I think the feelings you describe are from overeating. Plus it doesn't sound from what you are describing you are making the healthiest choices. If you aren't sure when you are full - try measuring your food out - about 3 oz. and eat that ONLY. I find that is a good way to be sure you are not overeating - as sometimes I don't feel full until 10-15 minutes after eating and then I'm miserable. Try to really focus on your eating - small bites, chewing slowly. Eat only your 3 oz. and see what happens. -
I'm the same as Dange - the largest incision is above my navel and is about 1" long, the only other on that still shows up is on my left side where the drain bag was - it is about 1/2" long and fading fast. I can't even see the other 3 any more.

You are in my thoughts and prayers - God's hands will guide your surgeons and guardian angels are around you. We'll look forward to hearing from you in a few days.

Haven't lost any more weight since the initial 1 week post-op

WELCOME to our forum family Cashmere. We are here for you anytime you need a support group. Ask any questions you may have and someone will have an answer for you - gripe about anything you want to gripe about - you will find empathy here - treat us like your family! As for plateaus - take measurements, because even though the scale may not be moving (we've ALL been there/or will be there) you are probably losing inches! Take care and have a great day (or is it evening over there now?) -
