    Smoking...

I quit in January after smoking since high school, about a pack in 24 hrs. I quit becuz its was time and I wanted too, not becuz I had to quit for a surgery or anything... I haven't even slipped up and this is what I did, hope it helps... 1. pick a quit date and stick to it, during a not so stressful time 2. decide you want to do this for yourself 3. I timed it so that I smoked my last cig as I was going to bed (a normal thing for me) and truly, I said good-bye to my faithful friend. I took my time, enjoyed every puff.... Then I threw away my empty pack and lighter.... My withdrawals weren't too bad, my kids were my biggest cheerleaders. And it was WONDERFUL to see them look at me with pride becuz I was quitting instead of crabbin and me for smoking... Now, just 5 months later, my lungs tested great in my pulmo testing, no damage at all.. And wow, smokers really smell like smoke, I never smelt the smoke on myself... Good luck!!!!

    Tricare approved in 48 hrs.!!

I am excited they approved me and would have gone postal if they hadn't. The fact that I have 135 lbs to lose is a pretty good indication that I am REALLY overweight. My blood work showed a barely functioning thyroid so slow metabolism (ya think?) And I am in the stages right before being told I am pre-diabetes.... Here in New Orleans our base medical facilities isn't large enough to take dependents, so I am out in town. Dr. Richardson at Oschner is doing it. I have had some really painful tummy surgeries, so I am looking forward to not being knocked out on painkillers for a couple of weeks, so thanks for the heads up. I gotta get better quick, hubby has duty the day after I get home from the hospital. But my kids are older (13,10,7) so I am sure I will be fine. Oh and a friend is making my medical id bracelet for me..I am ready to get busy getting healthier!
  6. I am approved and it only took 48 hours for Tricare to approve it!!! My surgery is July 24th... And band buddies out there???

How do tattoos fair through weight loss?

sweet, hopefully it will be fine. I am lucky in that my legs are small compared to my weight, i am a great perfect apple shape, lol!
  9. As of today I have finished all my testing and my psych eval. I am sane enough to become thin, got a small haital hernia that will be fixed during surgery and I have an underactive thyroid thats barely functioning (ya think?!?!?!?) The best news is after smoking a pack a day for 17 yrs. I have no lung damage other than I have asthma. I said good-bye to my menthol friends for good on January 24th cold turkey. I miss them dearly, but am better off without them....... Paperwork is getting submitted on June 17th to Tricare for approval. Everyone sees nothing that Tricare would deny me banding, especially with my newly found underactive thyroid. And now the waiting begins.....

    all done, waiting for approval!

Tricare Prime.. Sometimes its a pain in the tushie, but have never had a problem with anything...... nothing showing on the website today :blushing: But I am positive I am a no brainer case, lol!!!!! But just know, if you hear of some wacky Navy wife going postal on Tricare in New Orleans, its me!!!!

    ...Today

I also am not banded yet, but just wanted to add my thoughts. The only thing I am trying to do to get used to my new life after band is trying to not drink when eating (thats hard!), and trying to eat Protein first and making healthier eating choices. Oh, and those darn protein shakes... I know that I will struggle with my eating choices and diet habits, even after getting the band. And while I know I have to eat healthier and all that, I also know that if I slip and make a mistake, it will be a much smaller mistake then before the band. I know that the struggle with the band is nothing compared to struggling my whole life with my weight.... This will be easier than the hell I have been living in...

    Tough Battle

I have not been banded YET, but I have plenty of experience with over eating and comfort eating. Should you have done it? Nope. But you can't undo it either. All you can do is say "whoops" and get going again. You sister might not believe you needed the band, but its not her body, her habits or her health. You did what you felt you needed to do to lose the weight and get healthy. Its seems like you have lost a tremendous amount of weight already if I read correctly. Keep in mind that it takes time for your mind to catch up to how your body is after losing weight.... With that said, sounds like you need a fill if you can overeat too much. From what I have read thus far, if you overeat it causes alot of pain and discomfort... Don't spend any more time comparing yourself to your sister who doesn't have your same issues. Instead, concentrate that time on working hard with your band and before you know it, you will be skinny. You didn't get here overnight, it takes time to lose the weight as well... Best of luck to you..
  14. Congrats!!!!! You must be feelin pretty psyched.. Can't wait until I am through this process. Had my first apt. today, just standard tests that every patient has to have was ordered. If the doc has an opening, looks like it'll be July.. Congrats again!

Does anyone use a Wii Fit??

DH just brought me a Wii Fit and I love it!!!!!!! I was wondering if anyone else uses it as a part of their work out routine, how long, etc? I know it can't be the only work out a person does, but right now, while I am waiting for a date, I am trying to get myself geared up and making minor changes in my life. At my size, any movement I make is a bonus and through the games and activities, I do work up a sweat and raise my heart rate.... I do recommend this as an addition... Lori
  16. I think you are definately getting the run around, because when I called Tricare to see if it was even worth my time, the lady said she didn't see a problem and my doctor said Tricare is one of the easiest approvals. I have a BMI of almost 46, probably need to lose 130 lbs and am one of the healthiest unhealthy people you've ever met because I also have no co-morbidities. However, my gramma has type 2 diabetes, my dad has high cholesterol. I keep telling my doc I don't have any health problems...YET.... and thats what he is gonna tell Tricare too, lol Keep us posted... Good luck and good ju ju to you!
  17. I have not been banded yet, but I couldn't resist sharing my thoughts. Diets are great, when followed to help us lose weight. The problem with getting on a diet is eventually you get off of it too. I probably will end up with second thoughts as well. But I can honestly say I excited for the day that I can eat without feeling guilty if I make a bad food choice. Even happier for being able to eat say half a donut instead of the whole dozen (I have never really done that, but you get the point.) I guess what I am saying, is I want to control the food I eat, not the food control me.... That being said, this is a very personal choice. But I would say you shouldn't move forward to surgery without being 100% sure this is what you want... Lori

Does anyone use a Wii Fit??

I want the my fitness coach to. I homeschool all three of my kids, so having the ability to steal 10-15 minutes here and there for a workout is much easier than finding an hour or two during the day...
  19. You are my hero, my DH has 9 yrs until retirement. Don't mind the moving too much, seen some great places for sure!! Adopted 2 kids from Hawai'i, lived on both coasts..not too shabby for an Iowa farm girl!! How are you doing after surgery??

  20. Hello, you are my hero since DH is retired!! lol Mine has only 9 yrs. left. Unfortunately we are on the West Bank and this base is HORRID!!!! But thats my opinion. I see that you just had your surgery, how are you doing?

  21. My daughter is lactose intolerant and gets VERY gassy when she gets something dairy. She likes to gently rub her tummy in a circle. The movement is soothing to you, but also helps chase the bubbles out from where they are stuck... With my surgeries, I suffer major gas pains as my bowels take days to wake up fully and get moving again. I sit in a rocking chair, even when i was in the hospital they chased up a rocking chair from maternity for me.. Watch out, for me it works well and could be pretty embarassing... :smile2:
  22. I am the devil here..... I am also addicted to Dr. Pepper!! I can't live without it, but I only have about 3-4 cans a week, for real.. There is diet caffiene free Dr. Pepper now!!! Super good and it doesn't taste any different without caffiene. And if you want it to be cherry, just add some grenadine syrup to taste..... I am thankful that Dr. Pepper comes in those cute 8 oz. cans. While I am not banded, I am hoping I am one of those that can tolerate some carbonation. I quit smoking 3 months ago (don't miss it!), I am giving up my addiction to junk food, but I can't quit Dr. Pepper.....

    Ouch, ouch...

when I had my hysterectomy 2 yrs ago and my scar tissue removal in Feb., I lived on ice packs!!!! Better pain relief than morphine, as the cold numbs it. Trust me though, move wrong and you will get an instant reminder you are still healing. My nurses tried to get me to use heating pad, but it just cramped me and made the pain worse....
  24. I didn't have PCOS, but after 4 yrs. of infertility treatments, the docs finally discovered I had a hormone inbalance, too much testerone, which also caused me not to ovulate (irregular cycles). Ultimately I had a partial hysterectomy for adenomyosis (internal endometreosis). I am not very hairy, however, I have more than my share of stray black hair, I noticed after my hysterectomy and my hormones evening out, the hair problem lessened ALOT.... And my leg hair is softer and not as much, as is under my arms.... Hope this helps....
  25. So, I am not banded YET, but you so need to come and live with my family..... My good ol redneck hubby actually thinks it will be great to have burping contests with me, claiming I will have the advantage.. My two sons think its great to create any body noise, laugh their butts off no matter what. My precious princess daughter can out do her brothers!!! However, because I cover my mouth and say "Excuse me", I still get to be the femimine one.....:rolleyes2: I felt a shudder, no? lol
