    Tricare

I got my approval in less than 48 hours, I knew before the doctor did that I was approved... I didnt have classes to attend other than meeting with the dietician, so I guess that was paid as a bill didnt show up here, lol! Tricare, in my opinion, when you are overweight and meet their quals, is a no brainer for approval. When I first started this process and told them I had Tricare, I was told approval was pretty much a guarentee..
  2. So I was wondering if getting the hiatal hernia repaired while getting banded cause additional discomfort after surgery? I have a small impacted one, whatever that means... Secondly, I also was diagnosed with under active thyroid but my surgeon doesnt want me on meds to see if weight loss will kick it back in gear. My number was 16.48, so its really not functioning at all. I was wondering how this affected weight loss even with the band? Thanks!!!!

    I Hate Protein Shakes!

I really love my Twin Labs 100% Whey Protein Fuel. It has 50 grams of protein in it in a 12 oz shake when mixed with Water. I mix mine with fat free skim milk. The chocolate tastes like cold hot chocolate and the vanilla like a milkshake. I dont think its gritty at all and there is none of the horrid aspiriny after taste... I've tried the Walmart one and also Muscle Milk light pre-made: hated the after taste big time... My neighbor tried it tonight as she needs to gain weight and she even liked it... and she hates them all also My fave way to make it is with 1 1/2 cups of milk, full scoop of powder and 4-5 frozen strawberries.
  7. Wow, how funny is that? Am doin the clear liquids now, this is horrid!! The 24th cant come soon enough, huh?

  8. miso Soup, white grape fruit juice, crystal light popsicles. sugar free Jello in every flavor known to mankind I was just at an Asain grocery store the other day and they have broths in every flavor: shrimp, spicy shrimp, crab, fish, beef, chicken, etc. I was so happy as I am starting my 2 weeks clear liquid tommorrow... Glad you are doin ok and congrats on the band!!!!

    Bad Lapband experience

Hey! I havent been banded yet, but am scheduled for the 24th. First, dang you got the rotten end of the stick, huh? I have had 3 abdominal surgeries and thought maybe I could help. 1)walk walk walk and eat Gas X. The combo really helped me with my hysterectomy. Also, rubbing my tummy gently in a circle with slight pressure really helped chase those darn air bubbles around and out. I was a great source of amusement to DH for all the wriggling and squirimin around to pass such a little amount but get such HUGE relief.. MEN!:smile2: 2) I used cocoa butter creme on my tummy during my pregnancy and every surgery since. While my scars are not invisable, they healed with no scar tissue bumps on the incision, they just look like a light red line. Plus my skin is nice and soft. I lost 70 lbs bout 3 years ago and had no hanging skin and am apple shaped. 3) I eat big huge bites of food and gulp not only liquids but food. I got myself some toddler silverware and a cute little salad plate to eat off of. Might look crazy when I start eating off of it, but darn it, I will learn to eat smaller bites.. And I am positive I will look crazier running to the bathroom gagging  I hope something, anything I said helps you. Tis a miserable time right now, but it will get better....

You know you are a bandster when....

You know you're a bandster when... 1) you buy chocolate chewable multivitamins just to get some chocolate 2)a loveseat is a place you and your spouse can cuddle instead of just being a chair for you... 3)you eat a Jelly Belly jelly bean in your favorite soda flavor because you miss your Dr. Pepper.. 4)when you dont consider candy orange slices a part of the fruit group...

    Is it just me?

I start my 2 week CLEAR liquid diet next Friday. Found this recipe that sound pretty good and get some extra Vitamins in before surgery to help with healing.... Oh, and I already love miso Soup, so got plenty of that on hand... Veggie broth: 1 tbsp. salt, 2 onions chunked, 3 carrot chunked, 3 turnips chunked, 2 parsnips chunked, 12 cloves garlic, 1 leek thinly cut, 3/4 tsp. tumeric, parsley and dill to taste. Put in large stock pot with 3-4 qts. Water. Boil, then drop to simmering for 2 hours.. Can be frozen...

    Skinny Ass Boyfriend

In no way did I mean his actions and words are exceptable, for they are not. I simply was offering another point of view about his possible feelings: feelings he isnt voicing. Do I see he has a problem? Of course, which is why I said she shouldnt stay big for him and that if he didnt like it he could walk....

    Skinny Ass Boyfriend

Ok, so I will play the devils advocate for a moment..Prehaps he is a man who likes a little cushioning on his woman. I am married to a man just like that. I thought I had done a great job hiding my shape and size, but nope, not at all, he saw every inch and flaw. He has always told me whatever I want to do regarding my weight is fine, he has never "blackmailed" me into staying fat this long, thats all been my choice. But just the other day he told me he was getting concerned about the affects my weight was having on my health (none yet) and was scared something would happen if I had surgery and if I didnt have it. Now, by no means am I saying stay big for you bf. You need to do what you need to do for yourself. And if he cant handle it, he can walk on down the line...
  19. Wow, what a strange doctor...Every doctor I have ever seen, military or civilian, the first words outta their mouths are "So, you know you are morbidly obese, right?":rolleyes2: Ya think? The first time my pcm saw me here, the first words outta her mouth were "So, have you considered WLS?" I agree with pp, get a second opinion, you dont need your pcp backing, you just need a referal...
  20. Hi, I see our surgery dates are close together, I'm the 24th! Arent you excited? And I must admit, I am happy I have a civilian surgeon.. How are you doing?

  21. Wow, what crappy news for you!!! Most of us on here can not tell you if banding is the answer for you or not. First, you need to check with your insurance if its covered, or your finances if you need to self pay. Researching the band is pretty easy and you can get most of your answers quite easily. If you are over weight and fall into the guidelines (bmi 35-40) then yes, losing weight will help your diabetes, even if it only lowers the amount of insulin needed. As for the rest of what you asked, if you search you will find what you looking for in forums here... For me it took about 3 months to the day to get my approval. However, Tricare doesnt require any pre-op dieting to qualify.... Good luck to you!
  22. Stretching might be true, but what was explained to me was that fluids help wash the food outta the pouch sooner, therefore making you hungry sooner.. and then you dont lose weight as fast as you would if you didnt eat and drink... But I wasnt told anything about stretching if I did drink, I was told stretching would happen if I over ate.... Wish me luck, cuz I know this is gonna be a problem for me too....:tongue2:
  23. Then I am gonna have some massive weight loss pre-op since I am on clear liquids and protein shakes only for 2 weeks before and after surgery... Who knew, diarrhea for a month, 100 lbs gone, lol!
  24. If you normally eat dinner or a meal when you get home from work, I think I would start it when you get outta bed.. But thats me.. Of course, you should ask your doctor, but being these diets normally start 2 weeks pre-op, I find it hard to believe that a couple of hours would make a difference.. Good luck!!!!
  25. Ok, all you all and getting to eat on pre-ops just stink, lol! I am wishin that all docs followed the same procedure... Start my pre-op July 10th. If I can see through it, I can have it providing its sugar free. My only dairy is from the milk to mix my Protein shake up (3 a day) and my only solids are sf Jello and popsicles.... This is gonna suck..Did I mention I have a teenage son that eats ALL THE TIME??? Good luck on your pre-ops!! Keep up the good work and stay strong!
