    Possible postponement?

I know how you feel. I sprained my ankle a couple weeks ago and my doctor wanted to postpone my surgery. I went back in to see him today, and he changed his mind, and I'm set for the 4th! I wasn't expecting him to change his mind at all, but I'm excited! I've waited a LONG time for this, and yes... postponing by a week or two seems so long! So hang in there, you may still get your date
  2. My surgery was scheduled for May 4th, and I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago. My surgeon told me to day that I have to be using my ankle to it's full potential 2 weeks before surgery. That could be weeks or months! He had me do a leg ultrasound today to rule out any blood clots, but I'm so upset about postponing it :w00t: I was SO ready to have this done. AND, I've been sticking to the 20carbs a day pre-op diet to a T, AND ALL FOR NOTHING! Ugh. So my tip to you... DON'T sprain your ankle before your surgery!
  3. I am very active. It sprained it playing softball. I can walk on it, I just can't run with it right now. The reason the doctor is concerned is because I could develop blood clots in my leg from immobilization. I think that is crud in my case.... I'm on it! ALL DAY. Just because I can't go for a jog right now doesn't mean my blood flow is restricted (the ultrasound even proved there is plenty of blood flowing in it). What really stinks is that if I put it off any longer, it cuts into our vacation time. Plus, with the kids out of school soon, we have a LOT planned. I would rather be slow and recovering in May than in June! And I know that in 2 weeks I'll be almost completely healed anyway. I'm just frustrated right now. This doctor isn't one to take any chances, no matter how slim to none they are.
  4. One really good thing to try is to get the low carb yogurt (14grams protein), put a scoop of vanilla whey, and a little milk and blend it up real good. It doesn't taste powdery at all. You can have a lot of variety of flavors this way.
  5. My insurance also required the 6 months. However, what (Cigna) required was seeing the SAME doctor and being weighed every month. I could do WW or any type of diet, but it was through my physician that we decided which one I wold adhere to for the 6 months. Just going to WW meetings or doing Atkins at home isn't going to get your insurance approval. You have to have doctor's proof that you've been working with THEM.
  6. I am under 200lbs, and I am 5'3. My insurance approved me, but it was more because I've been steadily gaining weight since my thyroid crudded out. I don't have any co-morbitiy illnesses.
  7. I was denied on a Wednesday, my doctor was notified on Friday morning, called my insurance company and talked to the doctor that denied me, and I was approved Friday afternoon. You just have to have a doctor willing to do that. But I don't think there is any "time limit", unless your insurance specifies one.
  8. At least you get cereal and milk! I don't even get that!
  9. Last week I sprained my ankle REALLY BAD. I've been to the doc, but the swelling is massive. Tomorrow morning I have all my pre-op with the doc, hospital, dietician, and fitness person. AFTER all that, I see the orthopedic surgeon for my ankle. Has anyone had an injury that didn't allow them to walk, just before your surgery? I really hope they don't postpone me, but it looks like I'll be on crutches for another couple weeks.
  10. MY post-op instructions are clear liquids for 2 days, normal liquids until day 6. Mushy food from day 6-10, regular food after day 10. Every doc is different. Just as all pre-op is different, so is post-op.
  11. Yes, I am! Since my thyroid started going crazy 4 years ago, I've been slowly gaining weight. Luckily my doctor didn't want to wait until I did weight enough to qualify, and insurance seemed to agree with him. All it would mean is more skin! So I am REALLY looking forward to this surgery!
  12. Thanks! This diet is HARD! I really like my carbs, but luckily I've been able to find things that I like that fill me up, so I haven't felt too deprived. I'm starting to have an issue of not eating ENOUGH carbs now!
  13. My doctor requires a 20carb a day diet for 4 weeks prior to surgery. I have a pint of Haagen Daas in my freezer that I've been toying with cheating... after reading this... I think I'll give it to the kids
  14. I also don't "qualify". I'm pretty healthy despite a messed up thyroid, and I'm not 100lbs overweight. But my doctor called the insurance company after they denied me and worked some magic, and they are now paying half
  15. My doctor's standard practice is 4 weeks on Atkins (20 carbs a day) before surgery, and then only protein shakes for the 2 days right before surgery.
