am a FAILURE in my weight-loss journey
Dana36 replied to MissWhitzel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm struggling too. I was doing really great, about 65 pound loss and all of a sudden, I turned back into an emotional eating, binging, basket case and found that i had gained 15 pounds in about a month!!! I'm trying hard to get back on track. I've eliminated all snacks. I'm trying to stick to 3 meals a day and that is it. I'm also reading a new book "Women, food and God" Amazon.com: Women Food and God: An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything It has been amazing so far. It is an easy read and really helps you focus on why you are eating, not what you are eating. -

I'm in.. I've lost my motivation lately and have been eating a lot of snacks and slider foods... resulting in a 10 pound weight gain :smile2::thumbdown: I need to be accountable!!! -
I'm hovering at 60 pounds right now.. it is going up and down about 2 pounds either way. I'm going tomorrow for my second fill, hopefully I'll get my restriction back!

There is a new alka seltzer cold plus that is nonfizzy. It is wonderful! It is my 'new' cold medicine!

A slider food is a food that will 'slide' right through the band from your pouch into the bottom of your stomach. Some examples of slider foods are Cookies, ice cream, chocolate, chips, etc.. For me, a crunchy taco is a slider food. Also, like Taco bell's nachos bell grande is a slider food for me, I could easily eat an entire plate of it.

I have Cigna, and had my surgery done at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga TN. I paid $95 for my psychological and nutritionist ($95 total), then $30 copay for my pcp and surgeon visits ($30 per visit). And that was it. My insurance paid 100% of everything else. I refused to go somewhere that would have made me pay a program fee. This is a medical procedure.. how many gallbladder surgeons force a program fee on you??
-
Once you meat all of your prerequisites, your surgeon's office should submit everything to your insurance. So first, call your insurance, see what they require of you, then do that stuff, then have it submitted.

I have 'comfortable' restriction.. basically I can eat smaller amounts, am losing weight, but I'm not strictly on 1/2 cup of food at a time. I can still guzzle!!

How did today go?? It took me two weeks before I felt well enough to go back to work. The first week was spent in the bed. So, you are doing great, just remember to take it slowly. -
Could it be the broccoli? I love chinese food and as long as I stick the to meats, I'm okay.. but one bite of broccoli, and I get stuck.

You should really start feeling better in a few days. I wanted to jump in and drink a lot because I felt so dehydrated. My dr told me to sip on caffeine free tea, and not worry about a lot of protein drinks until I was feeling better. -
Most fast food.. you can actually start tasting the fat and preservatives. It is just a greasy, weird feeling in your mouth.

How long did it take you to drink the shake and broth? This soon after surgery, I was still drinking about 2 ounces at a time. The pain is probably referred pain from the band irritating your stomach and diaphragm. Try sleeping on a heating pad, it did wonders for my back, chest and shoulder pain. Are you still on pain meds? I couldn't tolerate them, so I went on liquid tylenol around the clock to help with the inflammation. -
I have lost weight from my extremities in.. I started with my hands, feet and face, and it keeps inching in towards my middle. Right now, I look pretty good from the butt down, breasts up.. just that big old belly that needs work. I know I'll get there, but I sure would like to lose more in my belly quicker!!

I have hypothyroidism, and the only difference has been that they have had to lower my dosage of meds because of my weight loss. I started out at 250 mcg of Synthroid a day when I had my surgery at 289 pounds. Now i'm on 175 mcg a day at 229 pounds. I've lost 60 pounds in 4 months and don't feel that my hypothyroidism has slowed me down or anything!

See if your dr will call you in some phenegran (sp??) suppositories. I had horrible dry heaves and couldn't keep down the pills, but the suppositories worked magic on me. I was able to sleep and heal!! -
I have a gowearfit and love it. It is very user friendly, and the website is easy to navigate. It is cheaper than bodybug and that is why I chose it. I only got the armband, the wrist band will be my 100lb weight loss gift to myself!

I have Cigna and they also paid for my surgery. What you need to do is call the number on the back of your card and ask them if your particular policy covers the surgery. Just because the Cigna covers the surgery, it doesn't mean that your particular policy will cover it. That was my first step before I did anything else.

Mine is on the right side, a few inches under my ribcage. Can you see your incisions? If so, it will be near the biggest one. Trust me, if anything slips or moves at this point, you are really going to feel it.

Do I need to quit my coffee habit?
Dana36 replied to patsal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine doesn't allow me to have any caffeine, so it really is different for each dr. I just replaced my coffee with decaf, and now I can't tell any difference.
