    December Bandsters

Hey all, may I jump in here. I am due to be banded on the 27th ...next week and right now I'm trying to avoid getting sick. I am washing my hands about 1000 times a day it seems, as my son has a cold. I have been waiting for 8 months to be approved and now the sickies are comin. I just want this done and over so I can start out the new year on the right foot! Congrats to all you new bandsters and to the ones about to be banded. Be well all of you! Mel

    December Bandsters

Hi everyone! I am due to have surgery on the 27th of this month as well. Thankfully, all of my family has been extremely supportive. They actually, were excited when I told them I was finally approved. They know I have struggled and I have other medical conditions and they want me to be healthy. Beversman, I'm sorry your family is not in support. You know what you have tried and failed to do, and lets face it, do they really think you WANT to have surgery. If you think it's right, then it is. You'll be ok and you'll know in your heart that it is what is best for you. Hugs to you! I bought the Centrum Silver chewables--fruit flavor. Not bad. If I didn't like them I would have bought the kids ones. I have tried the centrum orange chewable in the past and did not like them, but these were completely different.

    dr c question

Dr. C, I wonder if you would answer a question for me. I am due to have surgery on the 27th of this month after several months of fighting with the insurance company. I've been having a problem with burping the last few months, I asked my nephrologist if it could be my blood pressure medication and she said no, so I thought maybe it was the stress the insurance company was giving me. I don't have any discomfort or pain from it, just air and on a rare occassion some reflux. I wanted to make sure it wasn't a problem with putting the band in. Thanks for any advice you can give. Mel

Very Upset. I was Denied Today

EMily, Did you get a letter from your primary physician saying it was medically necessary? Mine was very helpful with that since he does feel it is necessary to prevent further complications from the weight. I'll keep you posted. You keep me posted too. Melissa

Very Upset. I was Denied Today

Hugs to you. I know exactly how you feel. I was denied two weeks ago and spent 2 days crying. My husband felt so bad for me he went to the surgeons office and asked for help. They told him about the appeal process and all about self pay. Also, I am a 38 bmi, with High blood pressure and kidney disease and their reason was the same as yours..."not medically necessary" My goodness, how sick do ya have to be. Or maybe they just don't read things through the first time, they see under 40 and say NO! Hang in there, I know how you feel. We will both get through this.

    Allow me to introduce myself...

Dr. C, I am not banded yet and am nervous. How many major problems with bands have you seen? I'm not talking about the normal stuff like, something stuck or pb's or reflux and all, I mean slippage and erosion problems or anything else that might cause a crisis. I know I need to do this for my health and part of me just wants to get it over with and the other part of me is scared too. I'm not affraid of working at the band itself, but obviously I'm doing it to get well and stay well, not add additional problems to it. I also know that no one can predict who will have a problem either. I am just curious about your experience to what you've seen in the long run with the band procedures you've done. Sorry, that was a bit wordy, but I'm sure you understand what I mean. Thanks
