I was seeing a chiropractor weekly before my surgery, and now I dont need to see one. Just losing ten lbs made the world of difference for my back and neck problems. My Dr. recommends that you dont get adjusted for at least 2 months so you have time to adapt to the band. Its totally up to how you feel though. I had my sx on May 8th, and though he keeps calling me I keep telling him Im great and no offense no longer need his help, which is the best feeling in the world. Hope this info helps.

Congratulations on deciding to get banded!!! Its one of the hardest decisions to make. You have a great supportive family, and I dont think that they would volunteer to come out if they thought that you were inconviencing them. I think they may understand, and you arent the only one who has problems like this. There are a couple of threads here w/ ppl going through the exact same thing you are, ie: a woman whos husband made her drive to and from the hospital and wouldnt even walk her in or support her in anyway. When I scheduled my sx several things kept coming up for me, I had to change dates because I was inconviencing my coworkers, or my mom got sick, or something else happened. Everytime I tried to get close, something, anything seemed to get in my way. Its hard, and you feel like you are a pain, but its not you, its life getting in the way. Do your aunts work??? Id probably gun for one of them to come help, if you need it.

You're not failing!!! I dont think that you have a slipped band or anything like that. I started getting hungry like that at 3 1/2 wks out, and was able to eat a lot of food, and after I ate I would easily be hungry again. I ate almost as much as I did before the banding. You may just need to be filled. I only lost 12lbs between my pre-op liquid diet and my 5 wk post op appt, I am a very slow loser. Since that fill I ate less, felt full/restricted most of the time, and started to lose weight again. I am due for a fill on Monday, and am starting to experience it again. You may want to call your surgeons office to see what they want to do. But dont worry, what you are going through is completely normal, everyone reaches this point at different times if at ever. Hope this helps... : )

What has been your "Wow" moment since you started your weight loss journey?
lighter02 replied to ousooner's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOL!!! I keep forgetting they changed the name again.... Yes I did see Madonna, and her show was amazing!!! She definitely knows how to get a crowd going. Great for you to get into a piece. I've only been banded for 2 months, but I was at the Celtic Woman concert last night @ the Pavilion, and bought myself a goal shirt, one that I hope to fit in for my b-day in November. -
Thank You Gift for Surgeon, Any Ideas
lighter02 replied to Sylvia's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sorry guys, I had a spelling issue last night, copied this directly from thier site. http://www.ediblearrangements.com/ This one should work now. -
I was out for a week and a half, I would have been back w/in a wk but I work for a surgeon, and he wanted the extra precautions, as well as I hadnt taken anytime in like a yr, so he said I deserved it. My 3 aunts and 2 cousins had the Roux E Y, and all of them were back to work w/in 4-6wks depending on the jobs they had. But Ive never heard of anyone w/ the band needing that long, unless there were complications.

Thank You Gift for Surgeon, Any Ideas
lighter02 replied to Sylvia's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What about an edible arraignment??? They are fruits in the shape of flowers. It was a big hit in our office when our pt sent us one. Its totally healthy, yummy, and adorable. They're website is www.ediblearraignments.com, and they come in different sizes, so you can ensure that youre sending enough for everyone. -
What has been your "Wow" moment since you started your weight loss journey?

Mine happened last Friday night, when I went to a concert at the Boston Garden, and for the first time in like 10yrs I sat in the seat w/out squishing my hips into the seat and thinking, "whens the event going to be over???" I had a blast and didnt end up w/ black and blues on my hips...I was the best feeling ever!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Lactose-Free Protein Drink suggestions
lighter02 replied to jgandg's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You can try Unjury, its lactose free, some vitamin worlds and gncs have it, or you can go to unjury.com. They have unflavored @80 calories or chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla @ 90 calories, and 20grams of protein. You can add it to anything, soups, water, drinks, jello, pudding, I mean anything, its great. -
I guess I'm the outsider here, but when I had my first fill a month ago, I did have some burning, and i even had a burning feeling in my throat as he did it. He said its not unheard of but not to common either, that i may just be sensitive to the saline or because he had to adjust the needle a few times. My dr. only requires 1 day of liquids, then 2 of soft/pureed, then reg food. Hope it helps to know that your not alone.

Hey everyone, I know this thread has probably been posted a million and one times but I never really looked at them since I wasnt experiencing it. I was banded on May 8th, and initially I had some port discomfort, but it all resolved w/in 2 weeks. For the last week and a half, i have been experiencing some discomfort/pain around my port and can even feel it when i bend over. It's not that bad, just sore enough to take notice. I had my first fill 4 wks ago, and am do again in 2 wks, and the pain varies w/ time, there's no direct correlation to when i have it. any suggestions to what i can do??? :scared: Thanks

Thanks for all of the help, I knew it wasnt anything worrysome but I was just curious about it. I did experience some slight burning/tingling for the 1st wk after my fill, but it went away. "It seems most of the people have problems once they start having fills." I actually got better after my 1st fill, before that I had several PB'ing episodes and other symptoms which ?'ed my decision for the sx, but the only thing I have had since was the discomfort, but I know that everyone is different. again thanks for all the support, im going to be in my surgeons office for my f/u psych appt on tues, and ill just check in w/ him or his RN and see what they say.

for me, it starts out w/ a heaviness in my throat/chest area and I just know to get to the bathroom. If I say minimal words and don't really mouth breath, I usually just make it, I have only had 2 near misses on the floor, and both because someone was blocking my path to the bathroom (at home). But everyone is different, and even most PBs are different, so you just need to watch your body for cues.

Hey Brenda, Myra was totally right that this forum sometimes only shows you the worst and not the best. I went in w/ a list of medical conditions as well, most which can't be helped w/ weight loss, and yes I too have had some problems, but mine were trial and error stuff, ie: not having small enough bites, or losing track of time and trying to scarf down my food, but the rewards totally outweigh the bad stuff. I have only been banded for 2 months, but have known ppl that are 2yrs out and none of them are sagging. One of the tricks that I was told was to excercise, the more you excercise and strength your body, the fat will turn to muscle. For your breasts, I know that everyone is different, but I have actually gone down 2 sizes, and its the area around my ribs has actually gone down and I can feel the bones, which is the first in a long time. Its totally only natural for you to get nervous, I knew I wanted this sx w/ every fiber of my being but the wkend before my sx I got a little nervous, but this has been the greatest thing that I could have ever done. Just keep thinking about how great life will be after you shed some weight and go down a few sizes. Hope this helps, and dont be afraid to ask ?s here the ppl are great.

I called my insurance co and asked them the exact requirements they wanted for me to go through and they told me everything, mine even assigned me a special care RN who followed me from me first appt until now. shes never helped anyone go through the process so she learned as i did, and made my life ten times easier. it also shows them that you really want to do the right thing. but if your worried it may offend them just wait and your surgeon will tell you at the first visit.

you may want to find out what other appts are required ie: nutritionist and physchologists, and book those now. we i go its a month + wait for a nutrition appt. you may also want to find out if he requires you to go to monthly meetings you may want to start attending now. :grouphug: you may also want to call your ins co and see what type of requirements they require for approval. some companies make you attend six months worth of meetings or a certain # of nutrition appts before theyll approve you. hope this is helpful.

I too know exactly what you are going through only mine is worse. I was banded on May 8th and all together have only lost 17lbs. I walk 45mins daily, because of personal and financial reasons I haven't joined a gym yet, but I can't seem to lose and I've already had my first fill. My MD and Nutritionist both told me the best way to jump start my system is to go back to liquids for anywhere from 3-7 days, and then progress back in. They also said to make sure I was taking calcium, vitamins, had the right amount of calories and protein. That was 1 1/2 wks ago, I did that and lost 5 lbs since then. I probably would lose more if I didnt sprain my ankle last wk and have to stay off of it for 4-6wks. Sorry you had to listen to me ramble, but I hope this info helps you.

Boston area Mass Health
lighter02 replied to SunnyRoses35's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hey, I know of a bunch of people who tried, and if thats your only insurance they dont usually cover it. If you have commercial Mass health, which is through your employer and often called Mass health gold ppo, you may want to look into it, Im not sure about that one. If you have a main or secondary ins. ie: Medicare, they sometimes pay for the surgery and mass health will pick up the rest. It all depends on your current medical conditions and BMI. I would call them directly for more info. Hope this info was helpful. -
My gyn dr and surgeon told me that i would have hormone changes after my surgery. I have ovarian cysts and endometriosis and have been on HRT's and BCP's since I was 13. For the last 4 yrs Ive been controlled on the same meds, and not getting my period, I'm now 2 months post-op and I've having bleeding issues as well as cramps, and acne. Not everyone goes through this, but some people do, that's also why they suggest when you have the surgery that if you are on BCPs you stop them before the surgery, and consult your surgeon before restarting them. I hope this was helpful.

My surgeon requires us to attend at least 3 meetings pre-op, and 2 post-op, and if he finds that you aren't attending he will not preform your fills. We go once a month and he is there as well as the nutritionist, and sometimes the psychologist. It sometimes is really helpful to go to these meetings, but sometimes they arent. ie: I've been banded since May 8th, 2006, and all together including my pre-op liquids Ive only lost 17lbs, but there is someone there banded the same day as me who's lost 43lbs. It sometimes does discourage you, but Ive met some great support ppl at my meetings.

Before you were banded or now did you have diabetes or anytime of glycemic problems??? It may have been that your blood sugar was too low. But most of your symptoms sound like you had a seizure. This may have been caused by the little that you ate for lunch, a watermelon probably didnt help very much. (Im not scolding, believe me I've made my share of mistakes.) Or it could be that he did in fact do something wrong during your fill, and now you cant tolerate foods, though the covering MD would never admit to that one. Another thing is the broccoli may have gotten stuck and you could have w/out realizing choked on it by getting it stuck in your windpipe and it could have caused what happened. Im not a MD, only an MA but I've heard of and seen some of these things happen before. Hope you find our answers, and everything is ok.

my nutritionist never said to avoid gum, but while i was 2-3 wks post op i was chewing a piece and somehow it broke in half and i nearly swallowed some of it. after that i wont risk it, and my surgeon said i was super lucky not to have swallowed it or he would have admitted me for monitoring and swallow studies. my advice totally avoid it.

It's my first post on this site, I was banded 6 weeks ago tomorrow, and I've followed everything everyone has said to me, but has anyone ever has a problem w/ foods that are too hot or cold??? If my food has just came from the fridge, oven, or microwave, I totally get sick. I'm not having having PB's w/ it, but they actually diagnosed me w/ dumping syndrome, which isnt supposed to happen w/ the band. I have other conditions which the staff thinks is whats screwing me up, but does anyone else go through this????:help:

thank you all for your input, im going back to my original nutritionist in a wk and well see what she says, I was just so afraid of doing something wrong or having an erosion. I am still adapting to everything, and soooooo afraid of messing up. Thanks again.

Be careful who you tell, I only told my coworkers (i work in a drs office), and 5 close family members. Now all of my coworkers are paranoid over everything that i do and eat, and let alone if i have an episode. My grandmother who was ok w/ my moms bypass is totally on my case every day about food and tons of other problems. my excuse for the sx is a laparoscopy for ovarian cysts and endometriosis. I currently had the diagnosis and already had 2 sx for it, and everyone feel for it!!! I just told them my ovaries were a little worse than usual and the dr had to make 4 incisions, and no one sees under my bra so theyll never know.
