I have posted my experience elsewhere o the forum, but this seems to be the ideal spot to discuss this. To reiterate, I had a very hard time getting up on the high table which rolled a bit on its wheels in spite of their being locked. They kept telling me to "scootch" this way and "scootch" that way, much to my exhaustion. Then I had a hard time lying down on my back. I can't even sleep that way. I feel as if I am suffocating. They told me to stand up and tried, without any numbing, to hit the port and fill it without success. Miracle of miracles, the needle did not hurt. Now I have an appointment with the surgeon on Aug. 13th to discuss how to get me the fill. My friends and I have come up with the suggestions that perhaps some pillows might be used under my shoulders to prop me up a bit, and that a mild sedative, like a valium might be employed, also they might book a little longer appointment time so we have plenty of time. It was further suggested that everything be assembled and ready to go before they make me get up o the table. I believe that I will get my fill. I just have to spell out my needs.

Will it be different after my first fill?
Kara replied to prillywilly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh 380 pounds. I lost fifty pounds before my surgery and the six weeks after it, so when it came time for my first fill, the surgeon said that I should come back in a month and he would probably give me my first fill then. That was yesterday. I could not lie down flat on the table for more than a minute because I felt smothered. I always sleep in a lounge chair. Then they tried to do it as I stood up, but could not quite align it with the port. The doctor said that he would consult with my surgeon and try to figure out how this fill could be accomplished. Does anyone have any idea on how this could be helped? I MUST be able to get fills, as I have very, very little restriction and have regained ten pounds. I am back to dieting. So far, people have told me to get propped up a bit with pillows, and to get something with which to sedate me. That table is so very high to climb onto. I can't believe the disappointment. -
Obviously he had some investment in your being fat. Now that your size is changing and you have more self esteem, he cannot handle it. For whatever reason this is so, it is not healthy. You are well rid of someone like this in your life. Time heals all wounds,

I certainly agree with Fatty Fatty 2x4, when she says that people should not be criticized for asking questions here because, I, myself have missed information that was right out there in front of my face, also, my surgeon is a lovely man who did a great job on my surgery, but as he is busy, he does not give full explanations. This forum has been my chief source of information,

Average age of a Bandster?
Kara replied to Kellster's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was 62 when I was banded on April 28. My doctor was afraid that if I waited any longer to get banded, that some might consider me too old. I love it when younger doctors just toss you off as if you're done. In a week I should get my first fill and then take off from there. I am looking forward to it. -
I was banded on April 28 2009. Fortunately I had no gas pains, but I had a horrible feeling as if someone were holding a hand around my stomach which was squeezing it tightly. For four days I would take forty five minutes to sip a one cup protein drink, then the swelling in my stomach went down. I wondered if I had somehow broken the band, but my doctor said that it was the stomach shrinking. He had a hard time fitting my stomach into an 11 cc. realize band. Even though I can't drink fast, I started to drink more and stopped loosing weight. Now I am starting to plan what I eat so I can resume weight loss until my first fill.

Hi Everyone! I was banded on April 28th. I had NO gas pains! The only thing that bothered me was the feeling of tightness under my breasts which has now subsided. Tomorrow I will have my staples removed. Between the pre-op fast and the banding I have lost 40 pounds. I am grateful.

Hello Everyone! After three years of trying to get banded, I have finally gotten my surgery date which is April 28. Today is the first day of my liquid fast prior to the surgery. I am nervous about everything going well in the operation so I am trying to read as much as I can about this. Thank you all for your remarks.
