you will eventually get stuck enough eating stuff like that, that you will grow to not even like or want certain foods. Stuff i used to love i don't even want anymore. breads, certain meats (like hamburgers), pasta, cakes. My band is forcing me to eat healthier (which is great this is what it took) I now love steamed veges (broccoli, culliflower, carrots ect.) when i go to Mcdonalds with my kids i used to get burgers and fries and cola, now i get grilled chicken ceasar salad and water. i am feeling so much better and 100% happy with my band.

i am so tired of explaining to people
joleng5 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i wish i had not told anyone besides my sisters and husband!! I am 7 weeks post op and just had my first fill last thurs. and as of then showed a 22lb weight loss. i have no restriction right now, so i am trying my hardest to watch what i eat so i can keep losing. i have a few close friends i told about my surgery because i was so excited to get it. Well i guess they don't think 22 lbs is good enough. when i told one of them she was like oh. then after telling another (who was thinking about speaking to her dr about getting it) she said " i don't think i want it now". And i feel like i have been trying to explain it takes awhile sometimes. my surgeon doesnt leave any Fluid in at surgery and you have to wait 6 weeks to get your first fill, and i wouldn't be at all surprised if he were conserative with fills. anyway i just got off the phone with the last friend who wanted to know how i was doing, and she pretty much made me feel like a failure. i just wanted to vent. Anyone else with similar results have some promising results to share, i am trying to keep my head up but that really uppset me. -

ya, you are all right. I was feeling good about it until talking to her. I didn't do it to impress anyone, i did it for myself and family to be a better more active mother and wife. thanks for the support, thats what i love about this site it really does help because you all are or have already gone through the same things. -
Slow weight loss/Plateau
joleng5 replied to carymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had surgery on the 9th of june and am exactly where you are in weight loss and have been at a stand still for the last couple of weeks since i started regular food. i lost 6 lbs week before surgery and 14 since then. Does your surgeon put saline in the band at time of surgery? My surgeon does not so when i look at these people that have lost alot more weight then me that had surgery around the same time most of them have better restriction because they have saline in their band at time of surgery and it helps hold them over until their first fill. I get my first fill tomorrow and cannot wait. i wouldnt worry about it yet everyone loses different it also depends on how much you weigh people with more weight to lose usually lose more quickly in the beginning also. Just keep doing the right thing we are still pretty new post op it will happen! -
6 week liquid diet?!?!?!?!?!!?
joleng5 replied to Master Harper's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh my goodness! I was just told to eat light the week before surgery and then on 2 day clear liquids then 2 weeks of liquids (anything you can get thru a straw). I thought that was bad enuf i was so happy to see mushie (im still on mushie for 1 more week). Do what your dr. requires it'll be tough but you can do it, i just looked at it like something i had to do. All dr.'s are different maybe yours puts fluid in your band at operation, mine doesn't. -
I think as long as it is very diluted and don't have sugar if that what you need to do to get your fluids than it should be fine.
-
Well I am on week 3 post op. I thought i had no restriction because of how hungry i was for the first 2 weeks following surgery on liquids only, then i started mushies and seemed to be eating alot . So i decided to do what so many people are recommending on this website track calories on myfitnesspal.com well i started yesterday and it recommends i use 1500 calories yesterday and today i used less than 1000 and am about 15 grams of protein away from getting what i need. Does that sound about right? i am eating about 1-1 1/2 cups of mushie food at a time (which seems like alot) but it is filling me up for several hours. is it possible the first couple of days after switching from liquids to mushies i was so hungry i ate more?
-
i know exactly how you feel.. I only had 2 weeks of liquids and just learned to get used to the hunger pains it was a normal feeling for me. I got to start mushies last thurs. and its amazing how much better i feel i have energy now!!

how old is your baby? I waited until my baby was 15 months and weaned before getting the surgery. I just thought i would be losing alot of weight would not be consuming the calories needed to produce milk for her. In other words i was worried i wouldn't be able to make enough milk for her so i just waited to get the surgery. I weaned her 1 week before getting the surgery (i had started weaning her 2 months before by just cutting out feedings until i was down to 1 or 2 a day). But if your surgeon and Ped. think all will be fine i would just listen to them.

i had my surgery june 9th also. I'm glad to hear that you are doing great and not hungry, i wish i could say the same. I don't really have any restriction yet so im trying to watch my portions so i continue to lose until i can get my fill in 3 weeks. Does your surgeon leave any fluid in at time of surgery? mine doesn't he wants the first 6 weeks to be just about healing.
-
yay. So happy for you. I remember when that was me and couldn't wait. It'll go fast and be here before you know it. Now i'm just waiting 3 more weeks til i can get my first fill (right now i don't really have any restriction and any fluid in my band as my dr. don't leave any in at surgery).

When will my swollen tummy go down
joleng5 replied to NanaCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was banded on June 9th and by stomach just started to go down and not be so firm. Just give it time you are not quite a week post op. -
Hello, I was banded on june 9th and my results are pretty much the same as yours (i watched your youtube videos)My dr. told me to just eat light the week before surgery and doing that i lost 6lbs, today exactly makes a week since surgery and i have lost an additional 4 lbs. My dr. don't put any liquid in my band until 6 weeks post op, so i hope i still lose. I just wanted to say hello!!
-
I'm 32 and was banded june 9th. Sorry to hear of your pain I'm sure it will get better soon. I guess i was lucky in that department. I am struggling with not lifting over 20lbs, it's very hard since i have a 15 month old baby girl. i would love to keep in touch with progress and compare notes so to speak.

i am 5 days post op also and same for me. I think it is normal all your consuming is liquid right now. I am just trying to make sure i am drinking plenty of Water.

Any june 2011 Banders???
joleng5 replied to shootingstar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people have a lot of pain after surgery. i hear of alot of pain in the shoulders from gas. i was lucky in that area i've had a little shoulder pain when i take deep breaths but nothing to cry over. I had my surgery June 9th and am feeling good but have no energy and i can't stand the protein shake mix i got. I also had a hernia the dr. fixed that i didn't know i had. Just keep your head up and know that it gets better. -
sounds like she is jealous to me.. I know what that feels like my mom (yes my mom) i believe is jealous she has been really obese since i can remember has lost 70 lbs over the last year with now 70 to go just by diet. Which has made her smaller than me which she has no problem throwing in my face. When i told her of my surgery date she said "so your really going through with it"? She dont want me to know but i know she is jealous she is afraid i am going to get thinner then her. it is sad to say but i get that vibe from her with things she has said and how she has acted.
-
i know what you mean, I am 3 days post op and have no energy. I don't like the protein shakes and can barely choke down 1- 8 oz glass in the morning and that is using milk, and a little bit of peanut butter in it. i would also like any advice or to know if this is normal.... I have 4 kids to keep up with and am finding it very difficult.
-
20 lbs thats great! I was banded June 9th and can't wait to start losing. My insurance covered mine also, which i have 4 kids and would not have been able to get it without insurance either. I'm just ready to start living again instead of just getting along. keep us posted on progress and if you want message me sometime. good luck in your journey.
-
hey, how did your surgery go? Mine went good, just still feeling really tired.
-
I just had my surgery this morning and was expecting to be in alot of pain (gas and shoulder). Well i am not, i feel very good for just having a surger this morning. i was nausous right after waking up for 2 hours after surgery and it hurt my shoulders to take deep breaths for a while, but all in all it wasn't very bad at all most of my discomfort is my stomach where my stitches are. I was just wondering am i gonna get gas pains still yet? i don't know what to expect and was wondering if i should expect to get them.
