19 YO - Will I need Reconstructive Surgery?
ousooner replied to shanana's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Wish I had an answer for you. As was stated, your age should help in your favor, but genetics play a big part in it too. Wish you the best on your journey. I wish I had had this opportunity at your age. -
I don't think she misunderstood your post. In our eyes, it's not cosmetic, but in the eyes of the insurance companies it is. It is very rare that they cover any type of plastic surgery unless there is a significant medical issue (ie: breast reconstruction after a mastecomy). If you are getting sever rashes, make sure you are going to the doctor for them even if you can treat them at home and make sure you and the doctor document and photograph everything. That is about the only way I have seen it covered is major skin rashes. Even then, they only cover the skin removal and not muscle repair that a full tummy tuck would cover. I wish you the best.

I am in Dallas. I had an extended Tummy Tuck and it cost arount $9,500.

Yes, I had a revision because of dogear on one side and she also did a small tightening right in the middle. It was don in her office with my wife present. It was done with local. I was very please. It was easy and went back to work the next day.

Tummy tuck scars... Forever?
ousooner replied to GipsyGirl's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Well, 3 years out and my scar is still very visible. But, I would much rather have a scar than the flap that I had before. i guess its all about perspective. -
Plastic surgeons in DFW Texas area
ousooner replied to househuntress's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I highly recommend Dr Patty K Young in Plano. She did a great job on mine! -
From my understanding, the extended just goes a little further around. Most TT goes from hip to hip, mine goes around to the back side of my hip on both sides. I actually didn't loose weight because my eating habits got bad, I put on about 20 pounds post op (not all at once though). I am working hard to get that back off now. I had no lipo

Hey there, Sorry I just saw this message. I rarely come to this site any more. Glad to share my info if your still interested. I used Patty K Young in Plano. She was awesome and would recomend her to anyone. I had to have a revision (she wanted to take a little more off in front and had a dogear which is very common) She did them in her office under local for no charge! I was off work for 6 weeks and needed it. I might have been able to go back after 5, but was really tired. Hope that helps, let me know if you need any other info.

How many stitches for a tummy tuck?
ousooner replied to msbug's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Not sure about the number. I only had internal stitches and was glued together externally. Best of luck -
I wanted to post my Dr's official before and after pics. THe link to my whole journey is below. I am about 5 1/2 months post op and 3 weeks post revision. The Dr and I are very happy with the results. I still have some swelling, but that can last up to a year post op. Thanks for all the support I have gotten here. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f12/next-step-finding-real-me-45384/

wow, thanks for all the kind words. They are very encouraging. :cursing: -
We can agree to disagrre on that. I think there were just as many parents back then who didn't care, but the thought of having to go to the principles office and the possiblity of getting "licks" scared some of us stright.

THanks Karey. Glad your feeling better. Nina - where is she. I miss her. :wink2: I am doing well. I posted my official before and after pics in a seperate thread. Check them out. I am very pleased. -
Every school I was in groing up gave swats. Luckily I was well behaved and only got swats once in 4th grade. I think we respected, even if it was fear driven, our school staff back then. Kids these days show little respect for teachers because they know they is little, if any, consequenses for their bad behavior. I sound like grumpy old man, but I truely believe it.

Boo Boo Kitty's PS Journey
ousooner replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
BBK - thanks for sharing. I have my photos on MMH too. -
I had a revision, but it wasn't that extensive. She fixed a dog ear on one side and then cut about a 10 to 12 inch incision in the middle and removed about 4 to 5 inches of excess skin. It was done under local in her office and was able to drive from her office to work. It was relatively easy. The best part is that she didn't charge me a dime. Hope yours goes well. Keep us updated.

Yes, in that same section. All the scar creams and such are there too. I know when I went to a medical supply store, It cost a little over $50 for a box of it. At CVS, their brand was under $30 for I beleive 24 1X3 strips. and they can be worn for several days each. I just looked at their website and couldn't find it online, but they had them in the stores here in Texas.

Having just had a tummy tuck earlier this year. my PS told me that the best thing for scaring is silicone strips. I asked about vitamin E oil. She said that there are no studies that show it to be helpful. Messaging the scar is helpful and applying the oil can help you message it, so in that aspect its good, but not the oil itself. CVS has some resonably prices silicone scar stips. I am using them now and it seems to be working

Well, its time to start this new aspect to my WLS journey. I had Lap-Band in May 2006. I lost approx 150 pounds in 9 1/2 months and have been maintaining my weight since February of this year. Its been a good ride so for. I thought when I began this WLS journey, that I wouldn't want PS. My goal was to be healthy and not care what I looked like. I have a good life, a supportive wife and family and wanted to loose the weight to spend more time with them. Well here I am a year and a half later and just got put on the books for abdominaplasty on February 11th 2008. It seems so far away, but my job and my wife's job keeps us busy during the end of the year and as a corporate accountant, my wife is busy finishing up the books in January. She wants to take a week off when I have the surgery to help me out, so I don't mind waiting for that. This will probably be the only thing I have worked on. My arms are fine and no real man boobs to speak of. My thighs are bad, but don't effect the way my clothes fit. But, the stomach has to go. Clothes don't look good even when they fit and I am tired of lifting my flap to wash under it. Sounds gross, but I am sure many of you can relate I am nervous and excited at the same time. I have been to 2 consults and have decided on a Dr. She is very good and comes recommended by my Band Dr. That gives me comfort since he was great and I value his opinion. I have financing lined up but am still hopefull that insurance will help out. The first Dr I went to said it would be a waste of time to submit to insurance because I don't get rashes or anything. But the Dr I am going to use said there was significant separation between the stomach muscle ( It hink she said 5 cm, she put 3 fingers between the two muscles). Significant enough that insurance might pay. Not holding my breath, but like the fact that she will try to fight to get insurance on board. And with financing secured, if insurance denies, it won't be a big blow for me. I don't post here as often as I used to when I first started out, but wanted to update those who remember me
