Hi there, Six days post-op now and wanting to know when the pain goes away and it doesn't feel so tight inside of you. It still feels like my abdomen doesnt have the space to accomodate the port and band...like parts of me inside are being squeezed. It hurts when I sit up. I want to start feeling normal again already!

When do you start to feel normal?
Pangaeus replied to Pangaeus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is the norm not to get a fill until at least 4 weeks post op. I have been walking (I have a dog) but the pain seems to be related to the port site. Can't wait for that to go away! Thanks for all your replies -

Thanks for the reply...I just feel so sheeety right now! -
I am 5 days post op and the dr wanted me to stay on clear liquids for a week and then go to soups and protein shakes. So I have been having broth, crystal lite, tea, and juice. But it is not enough! I have a puppy so I take her walking 2-3 miles in the morning and then go to the dog park in the afternoon. I feel so weak, I think because of the low caloric intake. So, I've tried some tomato soup, butternut squash soup, and pureed some watermelon in small amounts. Having those foods helped me feel alot better energy-wise. Hopefully this is ok!

Food Choices Post Op

I was told to stick to the same things you have, but have been kinda low energy, so I also had some soup and protein shakes. -
Not getting enough energy from liquids

I just broke out my Trader Joe's WorldWide Pure Protein. Hopefully that will help! -
Silly Question..... Showering and wound care
Pangaeus replied to sarahbellzz14-4's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The doctor wanted me to shower right away, so I did and the warm water really made me feel better! I have been showering daily, but with the bandages on. I change the bandage every other day (those big bandages are not cheap!). So far it looks ok. Can't wait til it is all healed up...I have this huge fear of stuff popping out through the wounds! -
i miss my food so much
Pangaeus replied to cindie74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand about missing the binge. I miss it too. I just got my band on the 18th so am still on liquids, but there are times when I think oh I wish I didn't have the band yet so I can go have a mindless binge and all that taste. I know that binging is eating disordered and not healthy and I want to be healthy, but there is still that part of me that misses the binge. -
So tired today ...
Pangaeus replied to Chincotigger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was May 18th. My main problem is walking my dog, cause she needs alot of exercise. I am ok with walking a little, but not when she pulls me. I take her to a dog beach in the morning to do about 2-3 miles of walking. I am pretty pooped after that and can't do any more exercise the rest of the day. I figure this is because there is very little caloric intake. I am supposed to just be on clear liquids for the first week, but have started adding in pureed foods and soup because I was tired of juice and broth. -
My surgeon said V8 is a no-no, so I haven't had any. Yesterday was the first day I pooped since surgery, so it took 3 days! The poop was wierd too- kinda chalky and a mustard green. I too used to poop 1-2X/day, but I don't miss it...wiping the butt is such a pain. (TMI, yet?)

I'm four days post-op. I am fine during the day with my juice and broth but around 6PM the ole hunger comes back. It is weird because I am hungry but don't want to eat all at the same time. But I am hungry.

Curves is great. I did it a few years ago before I gained all the excess weight that required me to get the lap band and it helped me back then...as long as you stick to healthy eating and regular attendance.

So I have this wierd desire. I can't imagine actually eating anything because I am still in post-op pain, but I really want the flavor of tastiness on my mouth...mmm...a cheeseburger popsicle... Anyways, can we eat those sugar-free chocolate popsicles or are we supposed to stick to fruit popsicles? Thanks!

Is what I'm feeling normal?
Pangaeus replied to fakeDIY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also got banded on the 18th and have the same tightness around my torso. Yesterday I got kind of weak feeling because I was walking alot but am still only on broth and juice, so I think it was due to lack of caloric intake. I ended up getting some fudgcicles last night because I had had about all I could take of the broth and soup and jello. -
I want to lick things...
Pangaeus replied to Pangaeus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not on any Protein shakes until next week...this week is all about broth and juice. I did eat some popsicles last night and scared myself a little...you can still overeat on food even with the band...have to watch that and not go so gung-ho on the popsicles the next time around! -
It has been three days since the surgery. My energy level is fine and I was able to go on a long walk with the pup today. I am still having shoulder pain and it feels as if I need to burb, but can't. I am fantasizing about eating bad foods...except I don't really want to eat them more that I want the flavor of them on my tongue. I am mourning the loss of not being able to binge eat anymore. According to my therapist, this means that emotions which were repressed by the binge eating should start to emerge. So far, I'm not feeling that emotional...I just want the taste of goody treats. I am trying to decide whether to get some sugar-free fudgicles or if that is a "cheat." So far I have just been eating tea, crystal light, and apple juice, oh and chicken broth. One cool thing is that I havent pooped in days and don't feel constipated either.

I am 3 days post-op and I took the pup for about a 3 mile walk today at dog beach. ugh. I think I overdid it. I am really hungry right now cause my caloric intake has been so minimal and then I did all that walking. Hungry but can't eat. What a weird sensation. I'm sipping on broth right now.

what things should I bring to hospital, things you wiished you had brought with you??
Pangaeus replied to mo91188's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It depends if you are having it done in the US or abroad. I had mine done in Mexico, so a 2 night stay in the hospital was included. For me, having my computer and DVDs was a lifesaver or I would have died of boredom. I wasn't able to concentrate all that well, so didn't read any of the books I brought with me. Also, slippers, toothbrush and paste, shampoo/conditioner, lotion were all lifesavers. -

For me, the cheese is what makes the burger. I am only 3 days post-op, so not on solids yet. At what point did you start eating the fudgcicles? I'm getting tired of tea, apple juice, crystal ice, and jello... Sigh. -
6 Weeks Post Op - 55 lbs Lost - Hunger Lost - Appetite Lost
Pangaeus replied to BearSpiritGuide's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a wierd hunger. Not that I really want to eat things, but that desire to chew and taste is really strong. -
My main problem right now is walking my dog. She is a puppy so is not fully trained not to pull. My friend who has been staying with me is leaving today so then it will be on me. Eek! How long until you were able to bend easily, pick things up, have things pulled on you?
-
Thanks for all your answers!

I was banded on the 18th in TJ, now I am back home in San Diego. I feel much better today than I did yesterday, but am very low energy. Started on some chicken broth...I dunno if I can stand any more jello!

Yesterday was the pits, but I am feeling alot better today except that I am moving slowly. Unfortunatly I have a pup that I can't walk right now and she is full of energy. Not sure how that is going to work out cause I can't ahve anything pulling at me. ugh.
