has anyone had ANY problems with their sleeve?
deedee replied to mommytoethan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My major problems have been mental. I had never suffered from depression in my life, but at around 6 months out I was having a lot of emotional difficulties and went on an anti-depressant around 7/8 months out. I'm assuming the sleeve, rapid weight loss, played some role, but I also had many other things going on in my life at the time too (death of my grandmother, infertility issues creeping back in, etc.), so who's to say. Medically, I have low blood pressure issues, which I've always had, I'm just about 4-6 points lower now, and Vitamin D deficient, which I was pre-op as well. Good luck with your revision! I am so happy and grateful I had this procedure. -
Calories and liquids are up, going through exercise withdrawals now! Starting back?
deedee replied to JillianMarie's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I agree with Tiff, contact your surgeon. You can definitely walk now though...maybe that would help a little with how you're feeling?? I began walking, like most, in the hospital and continued daily (or multiple times a day) from the time I got home. I started working up a really good sweat eventually. Even now I try to exercise daily and sometimes it's just with a pretty brisk walk, and I'm in pretty decent shape, but can still get in an okay workout from it. Good luck! -
Great job! I remember my lack of energy (especially by the afternoons) was one of the hardest parts as an early pre-op, but started to get a lot better by 4 weeks out and I believe was pretty much back to normal around 6 or so weeks.

Having a garage sale - PLUS SIZE ONLY!!!
deedee replied to Debbie031010's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I can relate. I've done many closet/drawer clean-outs throughout my weight loss journey. I began in 22/24 and got rid of things as I started to go down in size. I told myself I'd hang onto anything size 12 and smaller, but just this weekend I decided that I needed to clean out my 12's too. I have a pregnant friend who is an 8/10 normally and I told her I'd bring my 12's next week so she could have them instead of buying maternity clothes. I NEVER thought I'd be at a place where I'd get rid of this size because it's too big:-) Good luck with your yard sale!!! -

I pretty much exercised regularly since having the vsg. Started walking everyday from surgery and built up to about 3 miles before I started Jazzercise and tap class at a month post-op. I had short little stalls here and there, but I also wasn't as compliant with the post-op diet as others. I low-carbed (around 30 grams or less) it for 3 months, but did not always get my Protein in. At around 3 months I was over half way to my goal and decided to try and lose the rest the way I wanted to maintain. For me this included exercising 5-7 days per week and not tracking carbs. (I felt that I would burn them off with the exercise:-) I did notice that the couple of weeks I couldn't exercise as regularly (due to snow, illness, etc.) I seemed to have bigger losses than those weeks with lots of exercise. Don't know why this was...could have just been a change up to my routine that allowed me to drop fast. So I guess what I'm saying with all this rambling is that I don't think exercise was crucial for weight with the vsg, but I do think it was important for allowing me to lose it the way I wanted to (carbs and all).

That's great news! But you're making me so jealous with all the talk of Seattle. I find that exercise is so much easier the less you weigh and it's pretty fun if you find something you enjoy. Good luck on hitting the gym soon. Let us know how it goes.

At 4 weeks out I was able to resume a normal exercise routine, but was cautioned to listen to my body. I started with pretty low intensity aerobic activity (higher intensity than swift walking though) and light weights, but felt just fine. Good luck!

It's a law here that we cannot start until after Labor Day. There's a really big tourism lobby that argues it's for the good of the economy. That also means that I won't be heading back until August 30, but I'd rather start earlier and get out earlier...my students feel (and act like) it's the end of the year now and we still have one more unit I'm determined to get done:-)

I'm so glad the gym is working out for you! I am back to a more normal exercise routine and really am happy to be doing it. I love your plan to continue your gym membership:-) And of course I have to mention how jealous I am that you are already out of school...we go this year until June 24.

Husband convinced everyone here is fake!!
deedee replied to 1MP4Life's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband was very much against the idea of me going to Mexico, but supportive of me having wls. In the end, we worked out a compromise that made us both happy...I'm hoping you will be able to as well. I wish you luck through your journey! -
I wouldn't think you have to tell the instructor (is this a trainer or class instructor?) what type of surgery, but I'd probably want to mention that I had abdominal surgery 6 weeks ago. I wish you luck on your new program...good luck with it!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I know I NEVER thought I'd get to my goal so easily...let alone below. It is such a great feeling. I'm so happy for you and your size 4 self:-)

I've done it in the past and had a really good time and actually worked up a sweat in the water. I tried it again about a month after getting the sleeve and was super excited about doing it again only to discover a lot of people didn't take it seriously and talked throughout the entire class. Some had their backs to the instructor and it was very crowded so if they weren't paying attention and did the wrong movement it kind of was hard to do it yourself. I'd say try it and if the class is good, it's a great way to exercise without the stresses to your body that land exercise has. Good luck and let us know how you like it!

Good for you! You'll find that exercise does get easier the more you do it. Good luck making it a habit, I really feel it makes a huge difference in my energy level and overall health.
