Last appt. before surgery!!
deedee replied to angel96049's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would just make sure you know what his/her requirements are on the post-op diet/exercise and Vitamins you will need to take due to pre-op blood work. I discovered that I was deficient in vit. D and also needed to add B-12; he also gave me the prescriptions for solutab prevacid (sp?) and suppositories for nausea. Congratulations for making it this far, your day will be here before you know it! -
Welcome to VST! I've found these forums so very helpful and supportive, I'm excited to get to know you. Congratulations on your decision! I was a lot like you in not thinking wls was for me. I finally decided to check out wls after my research for "hypnosis for weight loss" kept producing web pages promoting the surgeries and never looked back after that. How did the seminar go?

I haven't even had surgery yet and I'm already seeing benefits:

Yay! That extra money in your pocket will come in handy as you're shopping for all your smaller sized clothes:-) -
I weighed myself this morning and the scale read 158.5, finally out of the 160's!!! My lowest weight of my teenage/adult life was 158, which I weighed in my sophomore year of high school. Although I set a goal of a "normal" bmi, I don't think I completely believed that it could happen. Now I definitely feel it WILL happen. Only 10.5 lbs. left to go. My second victory is an NSV. I've really been feeling poorly over the last week. I thought it might be my gallbladder, then I was thinking an ovarian cyst, but I'm not a doctor and will be going in and hopefully it gets figured it out soon. Anyway, tonight I went to tap class and my husband decided to clean the master bathtub so I could take a relaxing bath when I got home. We have a small jacuzzi tub in there and I hadn't taken a bath since before surgery. I fit with so much room left on both sides. I didn't let it fill as far up as normal, because I was impatient, but the water still covered my body completely. I called my husband in so he could see how well I fit:thumbup: A nice way to start the week, but I still wish it were Friday.

This would annoy me as well. My surgeon and office staff were very responsive, BUT it still took from mid-May's seminar until the beginning of August's surgery. I had to go the seminar before I could even call to schedule a consultation, even though I had already started the process with another surgeon, and had to wait four/five weeks for the next opening for new patients. I was also self-pay so didn't have insurance to deal with, but I'd think since they already approved you for surgery, it should go quickly. I agree with annak4, maybe call the other office and ask your questions, share your hopeful timeframe, and see what response you get. Good luck!

I'm glad to hear you're doing so well. Good job on the protein consumption, that was the toughest part for me the first couple of months.

I'm doing the happy dance with you right now!!! Congratulations on getting this far!

That's good news!

Wow, that is so great you have such a good doctor. Congratulations on beating cancer! It sounds like you are doing everything right in terms of preparing for this life changing procedure. Welcome to VST, there are a lot of amazing people here who are very knowledgeable, so ask any questions you have. I can't wait to follow along with your journey.

CONGRATULATIONS Cheri! I'm glad you're doing so well. -
Laura, Just wanted to say I'm sorry you are going through this. If it's not better, I'd call the surgeon.

Thank you Steph! Carolyn, I paid for and started a deep Water exercise class 1 month post-op when the doctor cleared me for the pool. I found the exact same thing. People would gab, not even look at the instructor and kind of do their own thing, almost running into me a few times. I had taken water classes a couple times before and never ran into this...I only went once and then decided I got a better workout elsewhere and stopped going. I wish you luck on Wednesday, maybe it will be a different group of ladies or instructor.

I totally understand what you are saying. I do feel that exercising is really helping me. I remember it hit me a couple months post-op, when I looked in the mirror and saw my flabby thighs and wondered to myself, how am I ever going to wear a swimsuit again? I mean my fat was firm, but this??? Now just last week I noticed that areas of my body I have been working hard, my outer thighs and calves, are starting to look so much better. My spare tire is almost gone, I can even bend over naked and my stomach doesn't pooch out, but kind of goes in (now don't get me wrong, there is A LOT of fat there still). The point is, I think with either time and/or exercise we can improve some areas somewhat. Now, my bat wings will probably always be there, and my inner thighs look very scary...lots of hanging skin that is a lot darker in color. BUT I'd rather be soft and cover it up than fat:-) I think your weight lifting will help tremendously. Good luck!

Ivy, I find that if I don't get enough water it slows down my weight loss, you may want to try upping that. I'm not sure how far out you are, but last week I did really bad with the snacking and found myself up and down 2 pounds all week long (2 different days I didn't actually eat meals, just grazed all day long). Can you meet with a nutritionist to go over things? I wish you luck! I'd too be concerned with having to eat so few calories especially if you don't feel 100% at that level.
