  1. I bet you have such a blast...I'd love to shop with you...let's try to work out our schedules.

  2. I was thinking about you this weekend (went shopping at the outlets) and was wondering how you were doing? I hope you enjoyed the holidays!

    carbs after wls

I'm glad you figured it out Lauren. My nutritionist/surgeon also said 30 grams or under and I pretty much did that until 3 months post-op and then decided to add fruit back in, which upped the carbs considerably. My weight loss started to slow quite a bit at that point, but I still lost. Good luck!
  4. I'm very glad he is exploring further. I hope they figure something out soon.

    Soft Solids

My nutritionist/surgeon cleared me for mushy/soft food at about 2.5 weeks out. From what I remember (and it's a little fuzzy) I started with cream soups with meat and then progressed to purred meats with sauce. I was eating 3-4 baby spoonfuls at a time (this also meant I ate more than the three meals a day that my surgeon recommends). Since you cannot feel your full signal yet until it's too late and that seems to be what causes a negative reaction and not the food, maybe cut your portions in half for now. It definitely was a learning process at this point for me. Good luck!
  6. I have loose skin under my arms, my upper inner thighs, and now I'm noticing it on my tummy. I started walking 1-3 miles around 2 weeks out (I think) and then doing cardio with some light weights about 1.5-2 months out 4-6 days per week and I think this along with my age and drinking my water has helped. BUT I still have the skin. I'd much rather be a little loose than fat though.
  7. I am sorry you're going through this. I had a good friend who was not for my decision to have surgery when I first brought it up. Over the last few years, we've yo-yo dieted together many, many times and her bmi has fluctuated between 28-35, so she is smaller than me (mine 34-40). After talking it through with her, I realized her issues were that she was not educated on WLS or the statistics regarding diets. She didn't really want to be educated so I never shared with her much about it. The result definitely speaks for itself. She is very happy and supportive of my decision to get healthy and she says I inspire her to try a new diet, which she just began in December. There are no negative feelings and we still do a lot together, I just wish she understood that "another diet" would not have helped me be this successful, but she is not ready to hear it yet. I hope you can work through this with her since you are such great friends. Maybe time will help?

    Im new!

Hello Stephanie and welcome! I too have PCOS and my mother, grandmother (on both sides) have diabetes and it's pretty bad...these all played a part in why I decided to have surgery. I wish you luck on your search for a surgeon. I had mine done in Virginia so cannot be much help there, but you may want to look to California or Texas (both have experienced surgeons I've heard about) if you have trouble finding one in your state. Keep posting your questions, we're all here for you.
  9. Welcome to VST! You've gotten some great things to think about regarding the progression of your diet...possibly too soon, we are all so different and heal at different rates. I wish you start to handle things better soon.

    5 Months Post-op

Five seems to be an important number today. It was five months ago today that I had this life changing surgery, and as of today, I am five pounds from my goal weight. I can't believe how fast the time has gone. So many changes have happened both physically and mentally. I'm finally getting used to people's comments. One new excellent development that occurred is my ability to wear shoes with heels. I went shopping on Saturday and wore heeled shoes for 7 hours and was pretty okay. Today I wore my boots all day at work and couldn't tell a difference than when I wear flat shoes. I guess with less weight on my body, my feet can handle being elevated. Back to shopping, I really am developing a problem. Over the last month I have spent way too much money on clothing. I went to outlets in Virginia this past weekend and felt okay buying clothes because I am so close to goal and they should still fit when I drop the rest of the weight, but I know I need to get a handle on things soon. My eating over the holidays was a little off. I did pretty good up until I went to visit family, but for some reason I REALLY lost it New Year's Eve and Day. Yesterday I finally got sort of back on track and hope to continue to lose 1-2 pounds per week. As for my goal weight, I'm really thinking that 148 is a good goal weight for me. I'm pretty sure that I should be able to maintain it watching my diet with a few splurges (like last week) and my current exercise plan. I do not want to feel like I'm always on a diet...so for now, I'm thinking that is a good goal weight for me. I have tap tonight, but will have my husband take 5 month pictures when I get back.

    Monday Morning Weigh In

Cajun-9 pounds is an excellent loss, but what an awful way to do it. I really hope you got some answers today at the doctor. Chancie-thank you for the words of encouragement and CONGRATULATIONS on the pounds and inches coming off...you are truly amazing!!! A total loss of 161 pounds, wow! Linda-Happy Surgiversary! Can you believe it's already been 5 months for us? Look at you, completely out of the 170's and NEVER going back! Carolyn-I like your attitude, you're so right to look at it a 5 pounds lost in two weeks, that's AWESOME! Twobluecats-that happens to me every month; you know it will go down because you are following the plan. Great job on your 13 pound loss so far!

    Monday Morning Weigh In

Well, for some reason New Year's was a more difficult holiday for me than any of the others so far when it came to self discipline. I (sort of) got back on track this past weekend and this morning weighed in 2 pounds less for a weight of 153. My weight stayed exactly the same all week until this morning...I'm thinking I might drop to weighing a couple times per week now. I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday!

    No pictures of me!

Stacie, I can completely understand about the picture thing. It really makes it real when we "see" ourselves how others must, because I sure didn't look like that in my mind. To me my face hasn't changed that much...I've always looked like this, but others are always making comments about my cheekbones, etc. I think 20 pounds is doable in your first 6 weeks, but just remember that a lot of us stall for 1-2 weeks during this time, so be patient. Good luck!
  16. Welcome to VST Juani! Thanks for the compliment on my picture. I exercise about 5-6 days a week, mostly cardio (Jazzercise and tap dance), but I've been trying to work on my core (abs) and use light weights with some of my cardio routines.

Good luck with whatever stage of the process you are in. This is a great place, so feel free to ask any questions and/or share your experiences.

    New Year's Resolutions?

Happy New Year! I've loved reading everybody's thoughts. I posted my resolutions on my blog, but really it boils down to me keeping the inner peace and contentment I've found this year. I have some goals to pursue, some clutter to clean up (both literal and emotional), and want to work on living in the moment and staying positive. Good luck to everyone on their hopes and dreams!
  21. Has anyone started thinking about the resolutions they might make this year? I've just been reading through one of my favorite threads here "What do you want to do that you couldn't do before the sleeve?" trying to figure out some goals for this new year...and coming up blank. I'd love to get some ideas from others.
  22. Linda,

That bra was totally worth the money because it helped make that top FABULOUS! Happy New Year!
