Thanks Bigsis Yes, what is it they say "you can choose your partner but not your family", I would have thought by my age (I'm 55) I would have got used to it - but no, I can't grow thick skin like I should. Perhaps your husband is afraid he will lose the "old you"? I know I had all sorts of question from mine before I had it done as we know someone who had it done several years ago and as soon as she lost the weight and other men were giving her the glad eye, she then left her husband and family. She is alone and very unhappy now, although slim! So I suppose these husbands do worry! Lots of re-assurance works wonders... Thanks Bigsis, I'm getting really nervous. Keep wondering if I'm doing the right thing, been hassled to reconsider by my younger daughter CP who knows (elder one doesn't as she lives abroad and only comes home to lecture me on my poor self control). I've told only hubby, one daughter and 1 friend at work (who I grew up with) but have said to other people that a) I'm on another diet and hubby and I are off to look at boring battlefields in Belgium for a few days. We have booked a narrow boat holiday to follow on immediately afterwards so that will give me a week with most of the comforts of home, but no chores, work or telephone to recover. It's really difficult at work as I work for my brother in law, my sister's his wife and she likes to lord it over me and call in frequently to give her "husband's secretary some little jobs" It really p****s me off. My parents, in laws and brother all live very close by and none of them would approve (Oh and my sister used to be an anorexic cat-walk model) some I'm really having to hide away for a while. I've started dieting in earnest now and had to laugh wryly as I passed my Orlistat enhanced poo about all the poo talk you lot have had recently! Low fat diet = Orlistat and Milk Thistle! I'm so grateful for evryone's support, you're the only people in the world who know what I'm doing and feeling. Thank you. Hi SP My heart goes out to you, I too am in a similar position to you with my family, fortunately I don't work for any of them! Every decision I have made in my life, according to them, has been the wrong one! If they knew about my band it would be used as ammunition against me - and NO I'm not joking. I would be the butt of every joke going and laughed and sneered at for the rest of my life. They of course have no weight problems. So I told my husband, my grown up children and my very best friend (they can all keep a secret!) I have had nothing but positive support from them. So I guess what I am saying to you is you are doing the right thing not telling them - it will be wonderful for you when you too are slim and they don't know how you did it!! I would also try and find another job to get away from your sisters dreadful attitude. Families eh... On another note I am going for my 3rd fill on Thursday, I hope to get some restricion this time as at the moment I can eat whatever I want albeit in slightly smaller quantities. I haven't lost any weight since my first fill, agh... Glad to hear from all the newly banded peeps, I wish you a happy losing life. Hi Homecare How about using the recent hot weather as a bit of an excuse? As in "it's too hot to eat..." and "I fancy an orange juice with ice as its so hot...." don't worry about it, the more you draw attention to it the more people will notice. Have a great day. Hi Fatduck I was the same and booked with Bridget (The first and last time I heard from her was when I made enquiries !!!!) Anyway.. I emailed Frederik a couple of days before op and I told him my expected arrival time at the hotel. He replied and said that he visits all the night before at the hotel and would see me there. When I checked in and was settling down he knocked on my door and said that he would see me later at 9pm with 2 other ladies at which we got all the infor needed. I saw Chris the day of the op for a little chat (which I presume was my consultation!) and then went down for my op. I paid Frederik the night before at the hotel. It was all very relaxed, no problems, all questions answered before and after the op. You come away with a lot of info about the band; size, capacity etc, also a booklet telling you what you can't eat, etc. and dates, telephone number and venues for fillings. Laura sorry about your news, you must be so dissapointed, but as others have said, get hold of Frederik and get a provisional date. That will help give you the will power to stick to a fat free diet and get your BMI down. I know you can do it - just think of the benefits once you have it down! You are already sooo close, its worth trying. Don't be pushed down the by-pass route, it is such a huge operation compared to the gastric band. All the best... Westie x

Hi I've kept mine secret from all and sundry - just my husband, son, daughter and best friend know. I was banded 26/5 and have lost 12 kilo's so its starting to become noticeable to others. When asked I say I'm on a low fat diet (true) and that I'm eating less and exercising more (also true). The band restricts intake but you still have to do all the hard work! I don't want to hear what other people think or have anyone judging me about the band which is why I haven't said anything to anyone else. Hope this helps you. Westie x

Hi Laura, Just don't tell work that you are going abroad. It's nothing to do with anyone else. I had my op on a Tuesday and I was back to work the following Monday. Mine was timed that it was the week after my holiday - so work thought I was still on holiday. I think the message is that you don't have to tell or explain to anyone about it. It's private. It's hard enough without anyone else judging you. Hope this helps? Westie x

Hi all, I've not been on for ages and theres lots of posts to read. Welcome to all the newies you are in the right place. Between us all there is someone to answer any questions you might have. I've been to Bristol this morning to have my first fill of 3ml. I was so pleased when weighed to find I have now lost 12 kilo's - YIPPEE........ Although Frederic did warn me that it will slow down now. I don't mind the weight loss slowing down, I'm just sooooooo happy that it won't go back on again. Hello High Anxiety, I went on my own to Belgium and it was fine. There will be another 5 or 6 people there from the Uk and they will be probably be staying in the same hotel, so lots of support. Lots of people go on their own. I had my op on a Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday. Every day makes a huge difference. As far as driving - I was back driving the day after I got home - you might feel very tired the day you travel home, too weary for driving. Of course you will have to take it as it comes. Do you think with the tiredness and aching you would be able to do an emergency stop? I did have my daughter pick me up at the station. :frown: Hope this helps a bit, Westie x

Yes - it will be 4 weeks and 2 days, as suggested by Frederik! I can't believe how well I feel. I have already lost 7kg (1 stone 14oz), although that shouldn't be a surprise really considering I was not eating for 2 days and on liquids from then on. I do find that I'm not hungry though, except when it gets close to a meal time. I'm also very tolerant of the family eating in front of me, which is something I never ever thought I'd be able to stand, ha ha. Strangely enough I too had a tumble in hospital the night of my operation. I was in agony with my back and couldn't get comfortable, I think it must have been the gas, when the nurse came in to check up on me I asked to get out of bed to try and relieve it. Sitting on the side of the bed I felt a bit sick and thought to :smile: myself I must get myself laid on the bed in case I pass out - and the next thing I remember is 2 very concerned nurses trying to wake me up as I had fainted off the bed and got myself wedged between the bed and radiator. Thanks to the 2 sisters opposite me for calling the nurses, although apparently the whole ward heard me fall (and the building probably shook). Not a bruise or bump on me though!! Lucky or what?? Good luck Suefee although you won't need it - it was me this time last week and I've just gone back to work today - feeling fine. I managed to fool them all at work anyway. In fact my boss said how well I was looking after my 'holiday'! And I've just booked my first fill for 18 June, so its all going well.

Oh fatduck please don't be scared, there are lots of us going through it and I went on the ups and downs of wanting to do it and then not - Dr Chris and Frederik are so wonderful, they answer all questions over and over again and put you at your ease. The hospital staff are very very good and there's lots of them and they all speak English. It is so good to receive such professional treatment (and I work for the NHS!). So please don't worry, the success rate is 100%. Westie x

Hi to you all, Well here I am, been through the op and now back home and feeling pretty perky I must say. I must admit I felt a bit ropey yesterday with all the travelling home. I started out at 9.30 am (8.30 UK time) and got home at 6pm, so it was a long day, but what a wonderful nights sleep I had in my own bed. I feel sore, which is to be expected, but I've not had to take any painkillers nor any of the anti-sickness tablets that they give you. I've even managed the injections without any problem, ( so easy to do and painless!) There were 6 of us being banded on Tuesday and we managed to get ourselves organised and shared taxi's into hospital and again on discharge. When in the hotel we swopped room numbers in case we needed to talk to anyone. After all my last minute doubts I am soooooo pleased that I've had it done and look forward to being a shadow of my former self. There are ways to cheat, eating chocolate and ice cream etc. but the way I look at it why would anyone pay out all that money and then cheat? Yippee......... The rest of my life starts here.....
