BLOODY HELL! I've been away a week and I come back and there's pages and pages of all your chattering to catch up with! Hope everyone is fine and dandy. It's nice to see all of the new people using the site, WELCOME to all of you, its a fantastic site. There is someone who can help out with any question you ask. They all helped me make up my mind about surgery. Well I leave for Brussles on Monday for op on Tuesday and as yet I haven't found anyone else going on the same day?!? I'm not the least bit nervous now - just impatient to get on with it. Can I just ask - as I'm having to go on my own (hubby can't get the time off and no-one else knows that I'm having it done) What can I do with valuables; passport, money, tickets, phone etc. whilst I am having the op done? Has anyone else been on their own? What did you do? Thanks, Westie

Hi Jackie I'm going by eurostar. I chose to go this way because I was a little concerned about flying so soon after anesthetic, I know its OK but I knew I would feel better NOT flying, so thats what I am doing. Westie x

Hi, welcome home. So glad that all went well, it will be me in 2 weeks!!! Tell all - what time was your op, were you ok when you got back to the hotel. Did you sleep a lot. What are you managing to eat (drink)? Was there many of you being operated on that day? Please, please tell all Westie x

Hi Tanyac I'm being banded on 26th, shame its not the same day as you!! I've been looking for someone being done the same day as me too. Your Mum is bound to be worried, I would be if it was my daughter, tell her that you are doing this for yourself and you've looked into it and made the choice. By reading the posts on this site EVERYONE has said that they don't regret doing it! There is so much information and help from people that are going through each stage of it all that there is someone to ask if you have a question. I've always asked and someone has always been able to answer even the silliest questions. They are a great group of people. Hope this helps..... Westie x:smile:

Hi Everyone, Well the time is flying by, 2 weeks Tuesday................ Some days I am so excited and other days I am full of doubts (whether I'll be OK), silly I know, after all you have all been through it. I just want it to be sucessful. Can anyone tell me what part of London do you go for your fills? I am trying to get myself organised in my head before I go to Belgium so that I know what question to ask - I think I will write the all down otherwise I will forget! Westie x

Hi Mandy I looked into insurance and finally gave up. There's nothing out there to cover what we would need. Private companies offer their own insurance if you have op done with them and companies like BUPA don't cover it. Ordinary travel insurance purely for your travel to cover cancelations etc. but even that wouldn't cover you for travelling back and being ill after an operation abroad! Sorry, just nothing out there that I have been able to find. Westie

I bet you are excited! I have just under 3 weeks to go and I can't contain myself! Luckily I'm away on holiday the week before - it might take my mind off it a bit (some hope). I'd just like to wish you well and eager to read your experiences on here. :cool2: Westie x

Hi Yardass I too have booked through Bridget, 3950 euro's. My date is 26th May. I have transferred my deposit of 250 euros to Dr CDB's account and will take the balance of 3700 euro's with me. I have booked to go on the Eurostar and the hotel (Campanile) independantly. Any questions you have just ask on this site as we are all at different stages and everyone is only too pleased to be of help. Westie:thumbup:

Hi, I just went in my bank with all the details about their bank and they just did it using their exchange rate. It cost £15 for the privalige of doing it though! It would be a lot better if we could pay the balance via card, cheque or tansfer as its a lot of money to get out in euro's and be carrying around. My op is on 26 May, and I'm getting very excited now - start my pre op diet on Tuesday week. x

Yes I agree Wishfull, I have had all my adult life fighting weight gain. I lose some and look and feel better and then it all goes back on again plus some. I felt really depressed that this was the way my life was going to be forever that I had to do something drastic and this is it. It's something that we can't really afford and are having to take out a loan, but my hubby is soooo supportive and agrees that its the best way forward now. I don't imagine it will be easy, and I dare say I will get fed up, BUT I am determined to make it work. I don't think I will say anything about it to anyone, like you say its no-ones business and I am still losing the weight, not the band! x

Thanks Sammy and Wishfull, its so great having folks to be able to talk to about this. No-one (apart from my immediate family and my very best friend) knows that I'm having this done, I decided to let people know afterwards, if I feel like it! I made up my mind to have it done and I didn't want anyone elses opinion on it, apart from you guys of course. So thats why I'm so grateful to you all as you are so full of the small but important pieces of information and are so happy and quick to share. THANKS W x

Mornin all Well I have just booked my hotel, staying in the Campanile like everyone else. Is it far to the hospital from the hotel? I'm thinking of walking it on the day of op as a bit of exercise will help with the nerves! I always find a good walk helps. I've paid my deposit last week and also booked to travel on the Eurostar. I thought it would be better than flying home after the anaesthetic, as I would have to fly to London and then fly to Belgium and the same coming home. This way its a train to London and a train to Belgium. More or less door to door! I am also taking my milk thistle and multi vits already - just have to start my fat free diet in a week, how will I cope without cheese? agh... it WILL be worth it. Roll on 26th. Have a good Bank Holiday, W x:thumbup:

I think you have to give it your best shot and work around other occasions in your life. You will always have invitations to meals and drinks before and after the op. If you don't go silly and you try your best it will be OK. W x

Hi Gillian I live at the bottom of Cornwall, Truro, so I don't imagine there is anyone near here! Thanks for looking for me. The milk thistle tablets are 450mg capsules. You are supposed to take 3 a day, but I am taking one in the morning and one at night. Great info on painlillers, dressings, clothes, shoes etc. keep it all coming for us pre-banders. A friend was telling me Dr Chris was on TV over the weekend. He was doing stomach staples, but she can't remember what channel it was or what the programme was called. All she remembers was that it was Dr De Bruyne! Anyone see it? W x

Hi everyone, I bought some milk thistle tablets on Saturday and the health food shop said that they were just the job to help shrink my liver so I am taking them now as well as my muilti vitamins. Can I just ask all you old hands - I've been reading your comments about fills and restrictions, do you pay £100 each time you have a small fill? If you are not getting restriction and not losing weight does this mean that its not working at all? I ask because each time I need to visit the clinic I will have to make a day trip, I live so far from clinics. Sorry to be a pain with all the questions............... W

Hi, No I sent it to CDB via snail mail - I couldn't fill in the form on-line - it wouldn't let me. I think I will email him. I want to get it sorted next week as I'm then away and come back home the day before leaveing for Brussels. Tight timing but worth the hassle.
