  3. Hey ckoon73, how's it going? How have things been going for you since your surgery in May? I got mine in July, 3 weeks ago. It's great that you and your wife are doing this together.

  4. My wife and I are 2 and 1 months out, respectively, and we both noticed right off that, though the scale was not telling us much, our clothes are fitting in dramatically different ways. It's almost like the weight re-distributed on our bodies, causing inch loss without major weight loss. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Pushing it, I guess....

So, 1 week after surgery, I was doing lawn mowing. 2 weeks after surgery, I am weed-eating and moving stuff around in my garage. I guess maybe I pushed it a little too far, because now I have a pain in my side whenever I take a deep breath, right at the top of the inhalation. I tend to be a deep breather, probably from long-time CPAP use. I was scared I had popped a hernea or something, but the nurse said most likely I just strained a side muscle. And it is better today, so I guess I got lucky... Had my 2-week followup yesterday, and at their scale I am at 368. My own scale is driving me crazy, because it gives radically different results each time I step on it. So, using only the doctor's scales, I have lost 21 pounds since I started this, and I am 63 pounds off my all-time recorded high of 431.

  7. My Nutritionist actually told me the caffeine would erode the stomach wall where the band is and cause the band to intrude in. I told my surgeon this, and he said there has never been any clinical evidence of this. He said, like all liquids, coffee will run right past the band(assuming you are not drinking and eating at the same time), so it would not have time to mess with the banded area any more than the rest of the stomach. He also said, as long as you are drinking in moderation, the diuretic and appitite stimulant factors are minor. At that point in the conversation, I was practically jumping for joy. I work at Starbucks, after all, so Caffeine is practically required... Topher
  8. Doing good...had my 2-week followup...hard to tell how much I have lost because my home scale is...challenged....Stepped on it 3 times the other day, first said 355, second said 368, third said 372. According to the doctor's scale, I've lost about 21 pounds since I started the pre-op diet

  9. Hey, what's new, how is it going? Hope you are loving your band and moving on to mushier foods by now. Let me know how it's going. Kathi

    First Steps...

Ok, so this is my first blog entry. My wife and I are going thru this together, and for me, losing weight is more than just a should do, it's a HAVE TO do. I have been overweight as far back as I can remember, and my highest known weight is 431(when I get to my goal, I am thinking of getting a tattoo of the number 431 with a line thru it). At 35, I am so used to being heavy, that I really find it nearly impossible to picture myself lighter, which makes it harder to motivate myself. So I take my motivation from two sources: My wife and daughters, who inspire me to be healthy so I can be around as long as possible, and my family medical history, which is bleak, to put it mildly. So my wife was banded on 4-27, and I was banded on 5-8. I really have a hard time remembering that it has only been 1 week. I did the 2-week liquid diet, and at the start of that, I was at 385. According to the same scale this moring, I was 364. At first, my pain level was low, but the last few days have seemed worse. I especially hate not being able to sleep on my side. I know it's a long road still, but I'm ready to get on with it!
