VSG scheduled for July 29th!!
DownInSocal replied to aces0928's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Angie Be sure to udpate us when you get back. I see your surgery is today. -
Umm wow. I wouldn't know how to can if my life depended on it or how to "dig" a potato. 100 chickens? All I would be thinking is that is a lot of cr*p to shovel! I live in the suburbs, not zoned for farm animals of any kind. Heck you can only have two dogs where I live.

Hey...another newbie here!
DownInSocal replied to Baldrick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome! Did you get a call yet? As far as cost per day in a U.S. hospital I believe it varries depending on where you are in the U.S. Cleveland has a lower cost of living than say California so it will be cheaper than you might expect. I live in California and had non weight loss surgery last September in a private hospital (non military). I was in two days and my bill just for the room and nursing care (including meals) was $4000. My total bill excluding O.R. fees and surgical fees was $9000, so $5000 above the room and nursing fees for.......who knows. Total bill with O.R., staff, meds, room, was $14,000. My surgeons bill was $4000, and the anestheia doctor (spl?) was $2000. Again that was California at a private hospital. Cleveland is going to be cheaper I bet. -
Reflections from a Fat Chick
DownInSocal replied to roseyandmusic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
All of you amaze me. I just wanted to say that. You have so much strength to eat a few bites and be done. I can understand the loss feeling. When I quit smoking I felt the same way. I have no idea if this will be the same or not but I know the feeling of longing for a cig went away. I have a feeling this will be the same for many in this thread for food. -
Thanks guys. I feel much better now. I just go myself too worked up yesterday. My pre-op went great. August 26th is my day. I will be in the hospital for 2-3 days (no internet ). 2 - 2.5 hours for surgery. No pre-op diet, apparently my liver is on the smaller side anyway. I am also enrolled in some nerve reaction study that monitors nerve function or something after bariactric surgery. I have to take 2 weeks off from work, no if, ands, or butts about it. For someone who is a workaholic like me that will be tough but at least I can still call in and harras my underlings by phone. I am going through a lot of emotion still though. Happy, anxious, sad for my tummy, scared, excited........ geesh. Edit: Forgot to mention my doctor does a 32 French size. He wickdly smiled when I looked shocked at the size. He says the smaller sizes have much better results..........uh ok. lol.

Ok I am a real August sleever. Not too many of us that post it seems. August 26th!

What do you want to do that you couldn't do before the sleeve?
DownInSocal replied to *susan*'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also want my ex to see me and know he will never get to touch it. That a........ never mind. He was so abusive to me. I want to make love to my husband without my tummy flapping or getting in the way, ugh. I want to run miles, not feet. I want to do the Breast Cancer 3 Day walk. I want my golf swing to improve. Maybe if I could see the ball over my large breasts It would help. It would also be nice if all the people at the driving range didn't stare at the fat lady whacking balls and sweating. I want to shop in the real section not go looking for the plus size section that is the size of a postage stamp and never has anything cute. -
APPROVED, Revision from Lap Band, need help
DownInSocal replied to heftynetty's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am interested to see how your appointment goes. I don't have any advise for you though except........ do what is right for YOU. I understand family and hubby is worried about you but they are not living in your body. As women we tend to give away everything. Keep this for yourself and do it if you feel it is right for you. Best of Luck. -
Pre-Op today. I will find out if I am a real August sleever or not.

Do we always have to talk about the sleeve?
DownInSocal replied to Oregondaisy's topic in The Gals' Room
I am late as usual to the blab fest....... I wear makeup sometimes. I go in spurts. If I wear foundation it is Cover Girl Clean or Cover Girl Aqua Smoothers if it is dry outside. I am too lazy to wash it off at night and don't break out (thanks to Yaz B.C. Pills). I have used Cover Girl Foundation since I was a teenager and love the noxema type smell. I wear eye shadow on special occasions or for meetings at work. I wear mascara and eyeliner a lot. I am blonde but tend to wear black mascara and plum liner. There is some new mascara for eye colors out and I love it. Subtle blush if I can be bothered. Lipstick when I remember. I hate the feeling on my lips. My hair is so straight it is irritating. Only my bangs will curl. I usually pull it up during the summer because it is too hot. during the winter it is down in a subtle feather thing. Dunno. I hate my hair. -

DownInSocal replied to Oregondaisy's topic in The Gals' Room
Well now it is just because they can't catch you! Or they are intimidated by your buff arms. -
I am glad you are back and feeling good! Are we supposed to wear a medic alert bracelet?
-
Wow Tiff. I hope this is the last set back for you.

Surgery on Monday, hope my liver is good to go
DownInSocal replied to Stimpy911's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW! I am impressed, seriously. Good luck with your surgery. We expect a full report when you get back! -
I wrote my earlier post before I read the whole thread (my bad). Wait what? He wants to take a break until he can talk what over with his daughter in law and son? Is this still about the supposed mean comment? I think he wants out and doesn't have the balls to do it. Save him the trouble and tell him the break is forever.

As a woman who has let relationships overlap a few times my best advice is to resolve one before starting another. It is only fair to the other person. Trying to have two going at once does not work. Trust me on this. If you are not happy in the relationship, leave, end it. I know that seems simplistic but I learned so long ago from an abusive relationship that life is too short to waste it on people who don't respect and love us. You will cry, you will hurt, but there is an ending I promise and you will find someone who loves you for who you are right now, not what you will be later, or were years ago. You will not be alone forever. I wasn't. If the man from FB does not want to meet with you after seeing your picture then the relationship was not meant to be. You did not meet his ideal partner criteria. That does NOT mean you will not meet someone elses criteria. I think our self esteem gets so low when we are heavy we get into the accept what I can get mentality. That is wrong. You are worth it! Move past the ones who are shallow and find one who will love you for you! I personaly would not want to be with a man who is only worried about my looks. What if I am disfigured in a car accident or burned? Will he leave me? I know my husband wouldn't. You will find that prince too. Huggs

Military Hospitals that will do VSG?
DownInSocal replied to kmwheel's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Oh and if you have TriCare prime or are active duty dependent you can NOT be denied care at any military health facility. Period. It does not matter where you are stationed. Keep calling military hospitals. -

Are you retired or dependent retired? Is TriCare Prime an option for you at next open enrollment? I am almost positive TriCare West pays VSG. -
Military Hospitals that will do VSG?
DownInSocal replied to kmwheel's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Oh I don't know anything about all that because I am in San Diego and have Balboa hospital. Where is the closest military hospital? You said the closest clinic was 100 miles but what about a full service hospital? I have met people at Balboa that have traveled 6 hours to go to their appointments. Most clinics are understanding and they try to schedule everything on the same day. Is this possible for you? -
This is gross, but...I need to know!
DownInSocal replied to ash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not gross at all! I have not had VSG surgery yet but had surgery a year ago on my neck. The insision oozed for several days after the drain was removed. As long as it is not foul smelling and/or you are not running a fever you are fine. Don't leave it covered too much though. Air is good for them to heal. You will need to buy new nightgowns anyway from all the weight you are going to lose! -
To Tell ....or not to tell
DownInSocal replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugh. She is teaching her kids to be nasty, that is the saddest part to me. My husband's ex is heavy also, about the same range as me so she can't talk about my weight. She is jealous of everything though. I am younger than her. I also think I am prettier but :tongue2:. I have a degree. I am successful and independent. Her jealousy will just get worse as I lose more weight. If she knows I have surgery she will use it as an excuse to discount the loss. I admit it. I want it to burn her up inside. You have no idea what she has put us and the kids through. I won't bore you all with it. Sorry about hijacking the thread!
