The beginning of the rest of my life

Great thanks. I am going to try it. -
Hey...another newbie here!
DownInSocal replied to Baldrick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am worried about your tooth! Our bodies go through so much after surgery that your tooth could really blow up unto a full on abcess. Do think it is possible when you are in Cleveland to have a dentist come to the hospital and remove it there? I really think you should try and figure out a way to get this dealt with before surgery. Is it a simple extraction or is it complex because the tooth has decayed below the gumline? Edit: Also I am worried that when you get to Cleveland they may not want to do surgery until it is dealt with which will cause delays for you. -

As far as the pot issue goes. I don't think one needs a treatment program unless they can't stay away from it. You have been doing well it seems on your own. For some people it is just not that addictive. Something to do and have fun with and then they can stop. The lack of physical (brain chemistry changes) I think has a lot to do with it. Besides like someone else said you don't need the munchies which I know come with it. I think a few of my excess lbs are because of........ -
I think I had a gallbladder attack!
DownInSocal replied to TennJenn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You know he had "mini" attacks before the big one in the shower that we did not realize were probably small stones passing. He would eat chicken wings or some other equally bad for you item and have pains. I did not think much about it. I told him to stop eating bad for you crap. Then came the shower incident. I feel for you and your husband because that was terrifying. He said the pain was gone and did not want me to call an ambulance or take him to the hospital. He did say I could call my mother who is a nurse. She said it sounded like a gall bladder attack and he needed to be seen by his PCP. He said "yeah I will make an appt" Being male he waited. He had another attack and I threw a fit. He made an appt. His PCP sent him to a surgeon. The surgeon had him do an empty of the gall bladder test (I can't remember what it was called). All the suspected stones had passed and the gall bladder was functioning perfectly according to the scan. He ordered a scope to see what was going on in his stomach since his gall bladder was good to go. The stomach tissue samples showed h Pylori and he had the start of an ulcer. He also had some small non cancerous tumors removed around the opening to the gall bladder. He kept his gall bladder and has no other attacks. He takes an acid reducer daily. I would suggest talking to your surgeon. Anything that makes you have enough pain to call an ambulance is serious enough to warrant further investigation. I seem to remember reading that WLS patients have higher than normal gall bladder problems but I won?t stand by that since I can?t remember where I read it. Keep us informed! -
Ugh. I have not done it so I don't know. Can you drink more? Like tons more?

Welcome!!! I would like to hear your story about your slippage and emergency surgery if you would not mind. How come you are going to Houston for surgery? So many questions. Only 3 weeks to ask them all...

I think I had a gallbladder attack!
DownInSocal replied to TennJenn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have not had surgery yet and never had a gallbladder attack but my husband has. The first time it happened I almost called an ambulance. He was in extreme pain I thought something awful had just happened and he was going to die. It scared the crap out of me. Had it gone on a few seconds more and I would have called but I was trying to get him safely out of the shower because that is where the first one happened. And then just like you the pain just stopped, poof, gone. He had h pylori and stones that passed. -
WOW! Your weight loss is incredible. Pics! Pics!

Welcome! How are you feeling your first week out? I see you are trying the ticker. I used the one labeled for "Boards" I believe.

I can also pick them up and mail them to you if you are too tired to deal with it on your way back through San Diego.

Welcome! You have come along way. Give yourself some credit! I am one that has had, and still has, professional help but to be honest unless someone has gone through it, they don't get it. I think that is true with most situations in life. I get far more help from this site and others. I quit smoking a year ago. I will not lie, I still want one sometimes but I promise you will stop thinking about them all the time, you can live without them, you will feel better. I never regret quitting. I just wish I would have done it earlier. That part I can speak about because I have been through it. I have not had surgery but I know you are going to do great. Stick around and keep us updated. -
Hi Joanie! I have not had surgery yet but like others said, don't be so hard on yourself! Also it is possible to consume too few calories which just makes your metabolism slower, esp if you are not getting exercise. Hang in there!

Some Surgeons "gentler" than others?? What do ya think?
DownInSocal replied to kaykay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Humm interesting. My hope would be all surgeons are mindful of patients "parts" so as to not cause needless discomfort after surgery. I think some doctors are cheap with the pain medication after surgery. This may be more to blame than being gentle or not. I was a dental assistant for awhile. A job I loved but doctors are so hard to work for. Anyway one time a patient was numb and I accidently squished her numb lip between my evacuator (sucky thing) and her teeth. She of course didn't feel it right then but she had a little cut and we had to tell her. She was not upset but I felt terrible for days about it and it was just a small cut. I hope that all medical pros are like this. -
I cut the ends at each side. That usually splits the acrylic and they are easier to get off. I know the stores have some remover you can soak your fingers in too.

What a great attitude to have. I wish I was so brave!

Point of fact: Leaky Gut Syndrome has to do with Bacteria crossing the intestinal wall to the blood stream. I don't believe it has anything to do with a leak at your staple line. Leaky gut - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In any case I visited that group. I read for HOURS. I could not find anyone who had VSG with problems. In fact I can't find people with serious problems anywhere with VSG and I have looked (I am not speaking of leaks because they do happen). "I mean more of I had it 3 years ago and it was the worst thing I ever did". Wouldn't they be burning up the net by now?
