How long til your steri strips fell off?
a-newme replied to Pangaeus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon removed them at my 1 week post-op... get rid of the steri-strips.... I doubt you need them. -
I also, had my first fill yesterday and it too was painless. The burning of the numbing agent was the worse part. My doctor only put in 1cc... I hadn't eaten lunch yet, so I had a yogurt, because he said "soft foods"... then went home afterwork and promptly ate Fritos and bean dip... what was I thinking???? Then I ate dinner an hour later... I'm thinking 1cc was not enough and will have to call him for anther adjustment... p

Help with Protein shakes
a-newme replied to rmanns00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried: Kelloggs Special K Protien Drink? It has the same nutrient values as some of the the other drinks, but taste way better. My kids discovered them, and when I went to go take one out of the fridge they were all gone. Here is a link to the site with product info: SpecialK.com Good luck. I was banded on 04/23/09 and have lost 19 pounds (pre-op 10 post-op 9) I get my first fill next week. It is one of the best things I have every done! -
How soon is too soon for real food?
a-newme replied to September75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you had your post-op appointment? I was banded on 04/23/09 and at my 1 week appointment, my surgeon allowed me to go to mushy food. I'm not sure if this was a good thing... because that meant I was on mushy foods for 3 weeks... instead of 2... I became very inventive with what I considered "mushy foods". Last week I went to real food. YEAH! but at the same time, you have to be careful, because even without a fill, I still get "blocked". Bread is a BIG no-no. Being blocked is very painful and something you really want to avoid. p -
Thanks for the info... It is slowly getting better... p

Okay, this is bazaar... I was banded on April 23 and I have been having pain in my left elbow and it goes up to my shoulder and sometimes into my ear.... I asked my surgeon about it at post-op appointment and he gave me the same response... take ibuprofin. He thought it may have something to do with the left arm being strapped and held down during surgery. The fact that many people have simular symptoms after surgery is puzzling me..... I'm hoping that mine just gets better. We will see. Patty

Thank you for the "Happy Birthday" wish. I am feeling really good, I am 6 days post-op and saw my surgeon today. He released me off of liquids... I was very surprised... so I'm now able to blenderize me meals... YUMMMM I was down 1 pound from my surgery weight too... YEAH. I think the worse thing about recovery is the drugs and meds that we take. I am finally able to concentrate and focus. So I went to to work today!! It's the beginning of a-newme Patty -

Trying to make sure I have covered my basis!
a-newme replied to a-newme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all for your reply... I didn't even think about a heating pad!!! I also rechecked my discharge instructions and believe it or not, it says: "For the first 3 days please take ibuprofen 600 mg every 8 hours regularly." I will double-check this tomorrow. I was stressing out over the fact that by my calculations I had lost 10 pounds, but because they had a different starting point than I did they were only calculating 4 pounds lost... They were happy with the 4 pounds that their scales showed and I am a go for tomorrow!! -
Trying to make sure I have covered my basis!
a-newme posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I'm scheduled to go in for banding tomorrow. I am frantically trying to make sure that I have everything taken care of before I am out for the count. Things like kids having rides, bills paid, everything at work done.... and I need to make sure that I have what I need at the house for me... This is what I have on hand: 1. Ibuprofen -- to help with swelling 2. Juices/broth for clear liquid portion of post-op 3. Powder protein flavored and non-flavored 4. A few liquid protein drinks for on the run 5. Gas X strips -- for excess gas 6. Milk of Magnesia -- for possible constipation 7. Liquid vitamins for a bit and then chewable 8. Couple good book 9. A knitting project Have I missed anything? Please advise if there is something else that I should pick up "just in case". -
Like everyone else... just seeing it this worked.

What Protein Supplement do you Prefer?
a-newme replied to WannaBe1/2TheWoman's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My nutrionist suggested a tasteless powder that you can put into things like Soup and to boost up the protien. I just ordered it for my 04/23/09 banding. It was: Resource Beneprotein Instant Protein Powder, 8 oz. Can You purchase it at Walgreens On-line. I thought this might be useful to have, so that I can basically make my own Protein drinks. We will see... a-newme Here is the link: Beneprotein Instant Protein Powder | Resource | Walgreens -

Hello all, I just registered to Lapbandtalk today. I am in the middle of my pre-op diet and have my banding schedule for April 23, 2009. I think I have jumped through all the hoops for a self-pay patient. My last hoop being that I need to pick up my CPAP machine today and be using it for the next two weeks. I have started a blog when I was going through a lot of the process. My blog it at: My journey to a new me! I have a BMI of 43% and am looking forward to being a-newme. This is exciting to me and I am looking forward to chatting with other people that have gone or is also starting this process. Any advice that you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

My surgeon just said he wants me to loose between 10-15 pounds. He suggested the South Beach Diet. I have been on it since 04/02. I have little to inclination to cheat, which really surprises me. I think it is because I am determined to do this.
