  1. Hi. Dr. Zarif has been great. I was banded on May 7th. I didn't stay overnight in the hospital ... my own choice. I think I made him a bit nervous because I was his first patient to go home. I'm a nurse at AGH and would recommend him as a surgeon for anything. He's very talented.

Bandwise ... it was a tough first few days. Alot of gas pain and pain at the site where he repaired a small hiatal hernia. I've added a small amount of some very thin cream soups to my diet because I was getting hungry. Late last night and this morning, I'm having little pouch spasms that feel like burps that can't happen. I'm going to have a clear liquid day today and see if it calms things down.

All in all, so far I'm happy with the procedure. Good luck and keep in touch. :-)

    Anyone banded May 7 2009?

Hi. I was also banded May 7th. :-) Gas pains lasted until yesterday, with Saturday being the worst. Nothing in the shoulders, all in the digestive tract. The worst part is that I can't burp. I can feel air in the lower part of my stomach and it tries to come up into the pouch, but it can't. A sharp pain ensues. Yikes! I had diarrhea Monday. Sorry so graphic. But it helps to share. I felt much better afterward, with a lot of gas pressure relieved. I did use Gas X strips, but they did little. I was really hungry yesterday, so I had a cup of strained cream of mushroom Soup in 1/2 cup increments. broth just wasn't cutting it. It was very satisfying. I wouldn't dare attempt anything thicker. Looking forward to keeping track of everyone. Oh, BTW, I'm down 6.8# from surgery. Best of luck to all.
  3. Hello! My name is Patti. I live on Chincoteague Island, VA. I've just started my pre-op journey and diet. My surgeon is Dr. Alae Zarif in Berlin, MD. I've got insurance approval, so my surgery date will be some time in May. Looking forward to learning a lot of helpful tips here.
