Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi, I'm a newbie here. I'm 55, and was banded on Sept. 18, 2009. Reading this forum has been so inspirational! I really thank all the long-term bandsters for posting here; it really helps me to read about your journeys. My first fill is just a few days away, and I'm hoping I'll start losing faster. I've lost 22 lbs so far, but mostly that was from the post-op liquid diet. It seems that at times I can eat just about anything, but other times I have some restriction. At first I was discouraged, but now I'm feeling better about the whole thing and realize that this is a long-term solution. Exercise has been the hardest thing for me to add in, but I started on a walking and elliptical program yesterday and hope I can keep it up. I have some knee problems and walking aggravates them a bit. Cheers!

How much are you eating now?

At 5 weeks out, it seems like I'm eating a LOT! :wink2: I don't measure my food or count calories, but I'm wondering if I should. It seems like many of you know exactly how much you eat in a day. Do you recommend keeping track?

Things I can do since my lap band...

I can tie my shoes without huffin' and puffin'! I'm down 20 lbs since my surgery date of 9/18/09 and no one has mentioned anything yet. But I've gone down a size and had to take my pants in. That makes me happy!

    September 2009 Band Date

I was banded on Sept. 18, and am definitely on the mend. Almost no pain at all now, except for some at the port site, but just occasionally. I am still pretty tired though and am sleeping a lot. I've lost about 15 lbs (I think; my home scale is not very accurate), and am very happy about that. Just another 3 days on liquids for me and then on to mushies!! I can't wait. Hey, is there somewhere on the board here that tells you how to put one of those weight loss tickers in your signature? I can't find out how to do it.

    September 2009 Band Date

I was banded on Sept. 18 and am still pretty tired, too. I think it's just part of having surgery, and the body has to have time to heal. I went to work yesterday, my first day back in a week, and I had to come home early because I was so tired. So, give yourself and your body a break---healing is just going to take a while. I've also had a few depressed moments where I've wondered if I've done the right thing, or when I'm feeling pretty bad physically. You think that maybe the bad physical feelings will never end. But it's just temporary. Keep trying to remember the goal you have in mind. It's pretty normal to feel a little depression after any type of surgery, so just think of it as a side-effect. I'm sorry you don't have a supportive family, but keep posting here and you'll find encouragement. My husband is sort of so/so on the support, but I'm finding that reading here can really help me, especially the success stories. Hang in there! We're all pulling for each other!

    September 2009 Band Date

Well, it's been a week since I was banded, and I'm back at work today. But I already feel like I need to go home and have a nap! I haven't been counting my proteins and feel like it's really hard to get enough. My doc wants at least 50 g/day. I only have the flavored protein powder, so I think if I got some unflavored and could add it to soups and broths, it might work. I am SO tired of sweet smoothies already. Cheers to all the Sept. bandsters! Deb :scared2:

    sept 24 2009 nervous,but anctious

Hi everyone! I was banded on Sept. 18, six days ago. I've had the normal post-op stuff, but I'm really feeling pretty good at this point and am going back to work tomorrow. I've lost about 15 lbs already since the surgery on the liquids and I'm worried that I'm just not getting enough Protein. Does anyone have any tips? I'm already bored with the liquid Soups I'm eating and can't bear another Protein shake. I've looked through recipes but am not finding much to work with. Thanks for any input! Deb

    sept 24 2009 nervous,but anctious

I just got my surgery date today---Sept. 18. I'm thrilled, especially when I read wonderful encouragement from people like A2bachik. I'm not scared at all about the surgery. What frightens me is that I might fail at this (and I consider this the last resort). Perhaps that's the wrong attitude, or maybe I've read too many posts on the forum here about the band not working for people. But I think it makes me more committed to making it work. Thanks for being there to listen, Deb
