  1. 45 pounds is a great loss! Just remember atleast you haven't gained! I've been bad about my water intake. I read that if you are just midly dehydrated it can slow your metabolism down by 3%! You would think that would help me drink drink drink. lol

    Post-op: Very active job

Have your doctor write you a note to be on a lifting restriction. It's illegal for your work to push you past your lifting restriction. I used to be a CNA- 4 years on the Ortho floor at a busy hospital. I was lucky enough to have a desk job by the time I had surgery. Now, i'm actually alittle skeptical about getting back into nursing because of fear of injuring myself/port area. That's prolly just me being silly though. Just have your doctor write you a note :tt1:

post your before & during/after pictures

First picture is me w/ Edward, 10 days pre-op. 2nd picture was me on Christmas w/ my mom- alittle over 100 pounds down! Still have a ways to go to hit the goal weight, but i'm getting there!

Share ideas, What did you eat today ?

Let's see, I've steered clear of the forum for awhile. Got to start being accountable again! B- 2-3oz of turkey breast S- Light chocolate Muscle Milk (10g of protein) L- 1/4 of a pig in the blanket (hot dog baked in a biscuit) D- 1/2 cup of broc cheese Soup from Quiznos  S- Large UNSWEET ice tea from McDonald's (sweetened w/ splenda) Ice tea is my weakness! Now just have to get another Protein Drink in & i'm feeling okay about today!
  8. My surgeon says to wait atleast 12 months. Partially because we lose a greater amount in the first 12 months, then he says it slows down a bit. I plan to keep my weight loss moving steady personally.

    Whats up with the hiccups?

I was told by my surgeon & nutritionist that hiccups is typically a sign of eatting too fast. Try slowing it down a bit, if you still are hiccuping might be the sign of being full like the above responders said :smile2:. Are you measuring out your food still? So you would know when you have between 2-4oz in ya?

What test did your doc require pre op?

My dr required the following: psych eval, going to a support group once a month until surgery, lots of blood work, upper GI (to check for hernias etc), chest xray, ekg, also had to go to informational meeting, nutrition class, and 1 other I dont recall what they called it.
  11. So what gym do you belong too? I belong to Parkside Athletics in Pekin, could always use a workout buddy. I feel like an idiot sometimes trying to figure out how to adjust and properly work the weight equipment. :) Ive been taking pictures every month. You said it, amazing the difference. My face is so skinny, lol. No more chubby cheeks!

Lets see, I was a jean size of like 28 (snug) and now i'm a 16 (or a 18 in Skinny Leg Jeans I just purchased from Old Navy today). Shopping is seriously like a part time job, but i like it! I buy a pair of jeans and 2 weeks later if that, im ready for a new size just about. Top size I was wearing a 3XL or 30/32 and now i'm in a 1XL or a 18/20 (depends on the brand, ya know).

Yep Jeff & I dated waaaay back when, you have a twin don't you?

    Have a great New Years!

    Tight band keepers.

i say whatever works for one might not work for another. Too each his/her own. Not everyone has to take the same route to get to their destination.

    Surgery 12-28-09

lisaluvsgreys- I'm excited for you! My dr also told me no soda & no caffeine. He gave me a reason of no caffeine because it can dehydrate you & also can actually cause some people to become hungry. I sneak it in everyone once in awhile and it does have the dehydrating affect on me. But good luck! Clear Protein drinks ex. Isopure (u can purchase it at GNC). But I warn you, it's super duper sweet, so get the H2O out & be ready to mix. So the "luvsgreys" would that be Grey's Anatomy?! B/c I'm a huge fan if so.

    Need advice

I agree w/ everyone else when I say don't compare your weight loss to anyone else's. Everyone's body is different. Everyone starts at different weights. The more you weigh, typically the faster it comes off in the beginning. Also, try to remember- typically the doctors say they aren't looking or expecting weight loss in the first few weeks, they want your body to heal correctly. Also- a note to whomever mentioned being heavier when they came home from surgery. I was a couple of pounds heavier too- I figure it was swelling on the inside that we can't see.

    Weight Gain!!

It's normal. When you are on all liquids, my doctor said it's like your body gets dehydrated (even w/ all those liquids), so it's normal for your body to get some weight back once u add in pureed or solid foods. Just follow the plan, you will do great!

    Liquid diet question

Pre-op liquid diet, man I dont miss that! I remember, luckily I only had to do it for 5 days. But one day, a supervisor at work walked in w/ KFC!!! And then offered me a big ol' peice of crispy fried chicken!!!! Talk about will power to say no. I was extremely sluggish on the diet. What helps is the Protein. I still get sluggish if I hadn't had my protein in for the day and i'm about 8 months post op. Now my pre-op diet was CLEAR liquids, so getting in my protein was alittle tricker than if you get full liquids. You could try Isopure, it gets me through when I'm on clear liquids, has something like 40grams of protein, but extremely sweet! Mix w/ Water so you can get it down. Side note- my dietician said when you are on nothing but liquids you can get loose stools. Sorry if that's TMI, but wanted you to be aware.
  17. My doctor always said it's because your stomach needs time to rest & heal. If you up your diet too fast, it can cause complications.
  18. Hey Amber-

I was banded 3/30/09 by Dr Rossi at Peoria Surgical. Yep went to good old EP, graduated in 2001. I didn't really get an explanation, I got an ER visit the night of the Port surgery though, haha. That's a different story though. I was told by my doctor that it happens to about 1 in 10 people, could be exercise, etc. He moved mine closer to the surface (which I dont think I like). Hope you had a great holiday!

  19. I always notice when on the liquid diet the weight comes off faster & then when I get to my mushy or solid food stage again it comes back on for a bit til i ACTUALLY lose the fat. My doctor said this is because, even though you are doing nothing but liquids it's almost like the body gets dehydrated? or something like that. Anyways, it's normal. I try not to freak out, and for that matter I stay clear of the scale while on liquids b/c I know it's not a "true" weight. Good luck to you.

    Numbing medication with fills

I've never had numbing medicine. Mine typically feel like a little mosquito bite. Except for one time when he stabbed alot & was bouncing the needle off the side of the port, not realizing it had flipped, that sort of smarted! alot! Is there something wrong w/ the way yours is positioned for it to hurt so bad?

    gas

I remember HORRIBLE gas pain, and feeling it churning inside me, but never did it come out either ends . So Gas-X didn't help me. What did help me was walking. Keep moving! Pretty sure it has to get absorbed by your body. Goodluck. Oh and sidenote for all the belchers, maybe drinking/eatting too fast? Also- my dr says no straws, they add air, & make you burp
