  1. I had soups, sf tapioca, yogurt, string cheese, cottage cheese, protein drinks, sf carnation instant breakfast, gogurts but mostly soups....
  2. I was told both with this and lapband- NO soda- carbonation is a) a false sense of fullness- it has too much sugar and it just isnt healthy for you...

    Eating Too Much?

Perhaps instead of a cake, cookie or something "bad" for you- a peice of fruit (orange, apple or bannanna) would kill the sweet tooth. I had this issue when I first got my lapband and learned to variate my fruits and this helped- I also started different cereals that were sweet and had only a few bites like Shredded wheat or Grape nuts- they satisifed the crunchy and the sweet. All habits are hard to break- You should be able to go to a fire station or perhaps call around to other physicians offices to weigh yourself- some of the WW groups will let you weigh in there as well because they have the "heavier" scales. I agree with everyone else- though- keep with your doctor's plan and dont divert- it's not worth it... One other thing are you exercising?? sometimes when you change your routine or rev it up the scales will begin to move again... PS Something my doctor told me about weighing in only once a month- you mentally know that you are going and therefore perhaps you can "trick" your mind into the first 1-2 weeks of well I can eat it because my weigh in is in 3-4 weeks etc.. but in all actuallity you are only cheating yourself.... 1-2 lbs a week is the appropriate loss for us he says...
  4. I was given this apparatus to breath deeply into while in the hospital and also told to do for 10 days afterwards. It expands your lungs and diaphragm for 2 reasons 1 so you dont get fluid on your lungs and develop pneumonia and 2 gets the gas out of your system from surgery. Being asthmatic I DID NOT want to get pneumonia and I did it faithfully every hour 10 puffs. I can definitely see how if NOT doing it would cause phlegmy things but I'm not an expert... Good luck- ps. I get the slimes EVERY time I try something new, cannot eat solids without nausea so I have been sticking with liquids or mushies... GOod luck and feel better!
  5. The only "resolution" i will make is regarding going to the gym I plan on joining and making more me time... NO weight goals, No diet goals NADA!!

    Chix Wing Dip

SOunds yummy- do you blend it or is it "mushie" enough with the sauce?

    Drinking

I have some medicine cups that I got from the hospital I think they fill up to 5 cc which is a teaspoon- That was my sip size for about 1 week- When I felt like I knew what it was on my own- I no longer poured it in and sipped- I drank right from the vessel I had (water, shake , cup etc) IT is hard @ first but the moment you accidently GULP you will immediatly know WHY they tell you to sip- it hurts like a you know what!
  8. Welcome !! I can only speak for myself and am recently a band-sleeve revision (all in 1 surgery) and I have 1 regret- I didnt do it sooner- I'm sure a lot of people will tell you the same thing-I am only 4 weeks post op and still haveing some healing inside but for the most part am so happy I did this. Obviously any surgery is scary and there are a lot of what-if's going into it and you will have moments of wtf did I do after ward (i have had several) but all in all it was totally worth it. I personally didnt have any problems with my band like most people do (erosion, slippage etc) but I had other health related issues that were thought to be from it (auto immune wise) I feel so better knowing that I no longer have a foreign body in me and the jury is still out to see if any of my other issues resolve or get better (they say it could be 6 months or so). FIngers crossed at that time I will again have no regrets. This board is a great source of information, encouragement and feedback and you will hopefully make many new friends. As far as your tastes go that will COMPLETELY change- things I loved before I cannot stand and vice versa- it is all part of the process. Anyway- good luck and keep in touch- keep us posted!
  9. I am slowly very slowly able to increase from my full liquids (yogurt, thick soup) to mushies (refried Beans, mashed potatoe, mashed peas etc) BUT can only eat like 3-4 tsp and then I feel like a) i am going to explode or I need to go vomit... I have tried to visualize my sleeve and it's new look vs the 3-4 oz that I am measureing and eating slowly imagining how what I am eating is filling me up and the 2 don't equal each other.... Because If I measure 3 oz I eat maybe 1.5 or 2 total. ( I waste soooooooo much food!!) I am so happy I did this BUT it is so hard to physically and mentally realize HOW much I ate before surgery and watching my hubby or friends eat is just absolutly disgusting now... Did or does anyone else have any issues with this?? I cannot "eat" without taking Reglan or I will throw up- Doctor says it's is just me being a slow healer.... but it is soooooooooooo frustrating-- I seriously (not joking) do not know how anorexics and bulemics deal with the emptiness/fullness signals they think they have.... I am 4 weeks out so the "1st month from hell" that others warned of is about to exire.... (lol)...

    Starvation Mode--myth Or Reality?

I too am lucky to get in 600-800 a day maybe 4 days a week- It is hard!!

    Relationship With Food

I can honestly say that I never dealth with it head on until after surgery and now that food is nurishment and nothing else- it really truely doesnt have that glam effect any more- especially when you have to force yourself to eat and pray it stays down and agrees with you. I thought I had conquered my demons with my lapband but boy was I wrong! I realize now that even though I was on plan and anal about everything- I still allowed things to slip and slide- totally impossible now and I am so thankful for that
  12. This may sound weird but I used to massage my port area because it used to get banged all the time when I would slide my chair into my desk or something like that and I have found that I still do it even though it isnt there.. maybe it's habit or phantom pain as I llike to call it but I dont think it's weird...
  13. I think if you have been on this board long enough etiher lurking or responding and asking you see the trend of the ones that a) really do care and reply honestly or are ones that say/write stuff to get a reaction. I think as stated before we all just need to remember we all have different starting points, surgeons and lifestyles and NO ONE is going to be exactly alike in their journey at each point. BUT having said that- We need to be respectful of everyones feelings and perhaps if it is a little "mean girl ish" maybe send a personal message instead. As a wise man once said... "cant we just all get along?"...

    Someone Pinch Me!

Congrats!! very encouraging to us newbies \
  15. That's awesome!! Congrats- keep up the good work- you are such an encouragment and inspiration to me and so many others!
  16. Ok guys.. Am I weird that I DONT own a scale?? I never have had one- Never wanted to be a slave to one- I have several doctors- I compare with thier scales when I visit and know I am doing good becasue I can feel it, see it and others compliment me.... I talked to my doc about this pre op and he said don't worry about it- my weigh ins will be fine with him... Now i'm wondering if I should go get one or will this become a new obsession??
  17. i"m 3 days shy of 4 weeks post op. I have NEVER felt hungy- I cannot muster anything thicker than yogurt and a 6oz takes me at least an hour to eat. I tried re-fried beans and took 2 sppons and was D.O.N.E. I felt"hungry" about 30 min later but it was more nausea. I do drink water when this happens to "fill up" but am getting NO where near the amount of protein every day. I generally am having a hot tea for bkfst, string cheese mid morning- a yogurt or 2-3 oz soup @ lunch- yogurt or string cheese in mid afternoon and soup again for dinner or yogurt. I have tried tuna and got sick, tried chicken and did ok but only had 2 bites- tried pork no bueno... so I am stuck- I will stick with my soup for a while and try again in about a week but those of you 3-4-5 weeks out and are "eating" be thankful ... Wish I could..
  18. I was sleeved 1 week before you and I can honestly say I feel your pain- Up until about a week ago I had pain form my drain hole to the next scar to the right- Very painful everytime I moved or took a deep breath- NOTHING i did helped- After putting up with it I called the doc and they advised me (in my case) the pain was probably due to the fact that that particular sutured area came out my lapband, my stomach- all the instrumetns etc- so it had the most activiity for the 2.5 hour surgery- after I heard that it made sense. I also felt like the wind was knocked out of me under my L rib cage- It wasnt gas, it wasnt anything except like weird- Anyway it eventually went away last week- BUT last week I also started walking every night too- ON another note- I too have felt very frustrated and oftentimes regret what I did but it is only because I cannot eat without getting sick- I can only have soup or yogurt consistancy and I see people posting 3-4 weeks out enjoying mushies etc.. I would love to!! My doc prescribed medicine to help with the sickness after eating which helps but I hate the fact taht I have to take a pill in order to eat- I am not hungry EVER, I also am not gettting in my protein nor my water- I feel weak and all I want to do is sleep- some days are better than others but everyone here has been cheering me along saying the 1st month is the worst and i am praying to god that is the case with me- and as I enter my 4th week post op I am encouraged that it will be over soon and normal life as I can experience with my new sleeve will be much better... Good luck and I hope you feel better
  19. SO being 3 weeks out hubby wanted to go out- went to Carrabas...THeir soup is too spicy so I was worried there was nothing I could have- I can only do soup consistancy and yogurt like thickness.. Thought about getting mannicotti and eating cheese but opted for a bowl of sauce baked with mozzerella- OMG it was delish- Waitress didnt make me feel bad, weird or anything- I was only able to eat like 5 tablespoons but it was THE MOST flavorful thing I have eaten since before surg!! so 2 thumbs up for Carrabas!!

What Is Sugar Doing To Me?

I havent had too much with sugar except the RTD protein drinks. Havent been a problem but I am wondering too if I maybe am developing this lactose intolerance post op- Yogurt doesnt bother me, string chese and cottage cheese don't bother me but if I make a protein drink with my 1% Milk ewe.. a bit gurgly afterwards... I am already on PPI twice day and it isnt "acid"... weird i tell ya... 1 of the things we cannot plan for - for sure...
  21. 2 weeks out.. my sleeve loves herbal hot tea and string cheese and cottage cheese my sleeve hates anything thicker than yogurt btw-- my sleeve and me are totally over soup... lol
  22. I have often wondered this too... I saw someone with the band that got bulemic after thing started sliding through. I think also too this is why i am having such a hard time 2 weeks out- I cannot keep anything but soup/yogurt consistancy down for fear of getting sick- i have tried to increas but physically cannot- doc says it's normal and everyone heals differently- it is so wonderful to know that i'm not alone, Great topic peeps!!!
  23. I planned my sleeve around thanksgiving holiday to ensure a few extra days off with pay. I chose to use vacation time- not forced into anything. I think it should be between you and your employer whatever works best- I was able to carry over time from last year and not "use" all of it so I can still take a "vacation" in 2012..

    What kind of Protein drinks?

@md071273- That is sooo good to know- I'm 2 weeks out too- and would much prefer something warm. My walmart has the adkins Mocha Cappachino shakes- they come in a 4 pack and are really good because they have real coffee flavor- I have frozen them for a slushie (pre op) but have never tried warming them. They are very tasty and have a slight taste of coffee- I have added decaf instant coffee to mine as well when I make a smoothie- Also Syntrax has a cappachino flavored powder that is good with warm milk and you can add some decaf instant coffee for a extra boost- now mind you I have not done this post op yet but but did do it post op after my lap band.
  25. One must remember that obesity is not the only reason for sleep apnea- many skinny people have it too- I personally use a CPAP but don't have any apnea- I have a heart condition and go into tacchycardic episodes- the constant flow of air (like oxygen) keeps it at a regular pace and the episodes less often- I would love to get off of it but don't know when- I have lymphedema and notice my legs are no where near as bad as before surg and i'm only 10 days post op- i'm sure it has a lot to do with laying and not being on my feet too but i'll take it
