    Need A New Forum

I became a vegetarian POST op and am loving my new life- I eat absolutely NO meat and only get my protein from plant based diet. I have never felt better...

Shake Question At "full Liquids" Stage

I have NEVER heard of bananna's having a) seeds nor being a problem- My post op instructions specificaly state mushed up banannas are a great source of protein- If you are worried about these so called seeds perhaps you should buy baby food banannas and mix them into your smoothie- I'd be more worried about the calories from the peanut butter (and acid reflux) and the sugar from the RTD protein and the peanut butter combined before I'd worry about a all natural bananna.... just sayin....

    Inceased Capacity

I think that you are doing ok with what you described however 10 oz of ricotta makes me gurgle at the thought...thats like over a cup of cheese!!! As you continue to heal I think you are able to handle more and like stated earlier when you increase to more dense foods your capacity will go back to very little. I have days that I feel ike I am eating more than others and then there are days I have to force myself to eat my 8-10 bites every 5 hours- but all in all i wouldnt trade if for the world it is still 100% less than what I consumed pre op...

    Lactose Intolerance

I became somewhat lactose intolerant after surgery as well- for me I was nauseated, vomited and had terrible cramping.. totaly wasnt worth it- I made the switch to almond or hazelnut milk as I dont care for the soy and since becoming a vegetarian as well beign post op I only eat cheese and or yogurt once a week. But becoming lactose intolerant seems to be a common thing with this procedure- My surgeon forwarned me ahead of time as well of the possiblity- I was never a milk drinker per say but I loved me some cheese.

    Need A New Forum

I can relate because I feel the same way about people posting the same things over and over and over again however- there is not 1 plan for people to stick with post op- every surgeon has a different plan and some of us are even not on any "plan"... I think you have to take what you read here with a grain of salt and realize there is 1 inevery crowd (however here there is a zillion) who will always have something to say- positive or negative- and learn to weed through the BS and stick with what you read that pertains to you and your surgeons plan.... I have been on here for a almost 2 years now and it hasnt changed....same shiz different day

    Update-I Wonder...

I also hate that time of the month 1 week before and 1 week after weight totally flucuates.. I think it's normal and if I hadnt had this procedure I probably did the same thing my whole life and never even noticed.. I think you are doing fine and congrats on your loss thus far...

    Unbelievable

I have had esophageal stricture my entire life and generally have an EGD every 4-5 years or so- I am having 1 next month post VSG- becuase I too am having things feel "stuck"... It isnt bad and it isnt a death sentence- you will be amazed at the relief you feel afterwards- I dont think it is from the actual surgery though...I also have suffered with auto immune issues my whole life and with RA and scleroderma it isnt fun... the EGD has just become a peice of my life same as the ECHO, labs, sleep studies etc... VSG wont change them.. but i wouldnt trade it for the world...

    Suddenly Nauseous

I feel your pain/discomfort.... I had nausea and vomiting almost daily (if not multiple times day) for at least 3-4 mos afte surgery. I used Reglan when it was time to eat/drink and took Zofran 8mg at least 3 x a day. It was HELL but it eventually subsided- Mine was due more to slow healing inside due to my auto immune problems and having the band removed- there was an area that had a lot of scar tissue etc... I know it is hard but it will pass and you just have to keep on trecking on... This far out Istill have days where I feel nauseated and even vomit certain foods but it is a live an learn.. overll- I wouldnt change a thing and go back to pre-before sleeve- EVER... GOod luck...
  9. Even almost a year out (in 4 mos) and being waay smaller and it being very noticable- this has been 1 of the hardest post op hurdles for me... I have talked to friends and even my pre- op therapist who says it is just going to take time.... but I agree it is hard to take a compliment when you hever or rarely had positive feedback EVER...

    Post-Op Food Question?

I love pickles and eat them often- I prefer the deli like ones but also eat the dill ones in a jar- They are very filling, satisfy the crunch factor that you often miss yet are soft enough to eat during mushies and yes they have salt in them but overall if you drink plenty of water it's a wash... ENJOY!!
  11. Perhaps you sould try it with celery powder or celery salt or even better yet real celery chopped finely...Dont discount your favorite things just because of a little seed- Obviously after eating it you are fine- I wouldnt make a habit of it- even now for me eating pumpkin seeds are harder on my stomach than before..
  12. If your surgeon did a leak test and you were fine and you are not having any complications ie: fever, cramping, bloating etc. you dont need to worry AT ALL...

    Hurt Myself

    a) you dont "pop a leak" a leak occurs when the surgery/surgeon either didnt sew an area or you stretched your sleeve by eating too much too soon. a gallon of milk is nothing... stairs no problem... i'd be more nervous if you said you vaccummed your house, picked up your 30lb 3 year old all day long up and down out of a crib, reached up and down etc... then i'd be worried of a hernia- THAT is the reason they tell you not to lift -- google it INCISIONAL HERNIA...
  14. No leaks, No regrets only that I didnt do it sooner and i'm sure 99.9 % of the people registered on this site would agree..
  15. I was fortunate to have mine done in 1 surgery and i'm very thankful although I had a lot of problems afterwards that were related to where the band was and overall healing- I totally understand why they encourage 2 seperate procedures now and if I had to do it over again i think i'd opt to have it done seperately...

    Fruit

It is not bad at all- there is tons of scientific evidence that a plant based diet provide all of the nutrients and protein we need to not only be satisifed but healthy. It is just our government's way and physicians job security to push the adkins/meat is the only protien source diet. It is really terrible...
  17. p.s you also have to remember your body is still healing and you need nutrients so the argument of no mashed potatoes etc is really a muted point because that early on you are only eating a few bites- it's not like you can eat a whole potatoe mashed or even a 1/2 cup etc which is the serving. I lived on mashed potatoes for a while- the instant ones were my go to for something hot and satisfying- a few bites and I was d.o.n.e!! The anal-ness about being calorie counting and OCD should come waaay later and even then ifyou eat a well balanced diet you wont even have to worry about it...
  18. My nose runs when I am full, I know its weird but yeah.. strange... Here are some suggestions that helped me variate things besides soup and protein drinks... String cheese, spaghetti sauce with cheese melted over it, mashed cauliflower, applesauce, cooked squash or pumpkin, grits, refried beans (you can thin them with some chicken or vegetable stock of they are too thick), soft boiled eggs or scrambled eggs blended you have to be creative.... you will only be able to have a few bites and that is totally normal but sometimes a few bites of something in between the soup routine is just what you need as a pick me up... Good luck!

    Fruit

I became a vegetarian 3 mos post op and since then I had pretty much all fruits, veggies and nuts. During my immediate post op once I got to mushies I ate a lot of apple sauce, peaches, nectarines and pears- mostly from a can in light syrup because they were softer- the further out I got I allowed myself a few bites to try- I have found that the fruits that are "sweeter" like grapes tend to cause a bit more diarrhea sooner than a normal BM (TMI) sorry... But watermelon was a staple for me post op- it was mushy, satisfied my thirst and filled me up- and when you eat fruits and veggies you get plenty of nutrients. Post op becomes a trial and error because often times you cannot eat what you did pre op for various reasons ie- Oranges- the acid KILLS me and I hate it- living in FLA I love to make fresh squeezed orange juice!! and can only have a few sips now but to sit and eat an orange I cannot. I have had the canned mandarine oranges and eaten tangerines and perhaps it's the size of the fruit but they go better with my tummy. I have made fruit salads and incorporated the "difficult" fruit in it so that I can enjoy it but not as a whole but rather just a few bites... Good luck!!

    Broccoli

I think broccoli at that stage alone would cause you to be very gassy and possibly feel bloated but if you had it like in a soup chopped up or in a dip it should be fine.. I would avoid the cereal due to sugar/carb- stick with veggies.... I eat broccoli all the time now with no problems and it is yummy both cooked and raw with dip or cheese.

    Ghrelin Hormone

I rarely feel hungry- I eat normally because it has been several hours since I last did and it is a necessity more though than a want... I love/hate it...

    Dealing With The Skin

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but at 9 days out the saggines you are probably seeing is water depletion ... NO doctor, surgeon or anyone would/should look at you until you are at least a year out from your surgery and you have met/exceeded your goal weight. I am 3.5 yrs out from lap band and totally could have had arms, tummy and legs done BEFORE my sleeve but I opted to wait. I have at least 50-80 lbs of skin at this moment. For now- I would say to use baby powder with cornstarch and if you develop odor or a rash on the underneath which is a huge problem with more significant weight loss perhaps Nystantin. As for preventing it (saggy skin) toning and exercise depending on how much you have and how much weight you have to loose.
  24. On my soap box.... I think that if the gov't paid for more people to get weight loss surgery there would be less need for them to be dependent back on the government for daily living expenses. However if one is not movitated to remove themselvs from the system pre-op then I highly doubt that loosing weight would encourage them to do so obviously they are comfortale with the "lifestyle" the govt and us working have provided enabling them to be non-self sufficient. BUT having said that- the cost of WLS and the food you need to eat, RTD meals etc are a bit pricey in some areas and that could be a deterrant- I doubt anytime soon you will see Unjury on the approved food stamp/WIC list anywhere...
