Out Of Curiosity.....
lml32937 replied to ebthompson2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 1 year out and YES you get drunker/buzzed faster- 1 glass of wine will do me in- 2 Jello shots will be a good buzz... Mixed drinks depends on how strong they are and I stopped drinking the frozen drinks because they are a) full of sugar and fill me up too fast- I prefer now to just drink at home because when I go out I rarely will finish the drink I get and to me that is a waste of money- at home I can make whatever size I want... I have only gotten "drunk drunk" 2 times since surgery and it wasnt fun- I needed to throw up and was afraid of doing so- it eventually came up on its own and then there is the peeing factor- with such a small tummy I swear it goes to the bladder twice as fast henceforth once you open the flood gates and go 1 time you are in for the night (for me anyway).. TMI sorry... But I reccomend to try it and see how you do- but it will DEF be WAAAY different and waay less post op than pre op... GOod luck-- -
I ate cold cereal with no problem during mushies and Rice Krispies were one of the better ones because they got very mushy very quickly- Although I didnt/couldnt eat a lot it was very filling. I would ask your dietician if that is acceptable on your particular doctor's plan. "You can't drink while you eat, so that's why they say no" having said this and using that logic- one would NEVER be able to eat any stew or Soup... The reference to this is drink WHILE eating... as in take a bite wash it down with liquid. NOT liquidy foods that have to be chewed..... That's like saying I'm going to mush a bananna into a Protein shake but that's a nono because I cant chew the bananna and drink the shake...

Has Anyone Been Sleeved Twice?
lml32937 replied to tbooker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I have never personally heard of being re-sleeved I have heard of others like previously mentioned being revisioned to another procedure- ie bypass or RNY. However having said that my advice to you is to not get discouraged- Take what the doctor gave you- still follow the protocols- who knows maybe you will be successfull- it sounds like you may have accepted because it isnt "Normally how he does it" that it wont be successfull- PROOVE HIM WRONG!!! Moniter your intake, exercise- stick with his program who knows you may never need another procedure AND if you did the weight loss you have had will enable him an easier 2nd time around-. I had 5 laparoscopic surgeries before my sleeve and at the time of my sleeve also had my lap band removed- Due to auto immune problems I have a collagen disorder and build scar tissue like crazy- My surgeon didnt have any problems with previous areas nor accessing anything he needed. If by chance you are not OK with your doctor then perhaps you might seek another opinion to see if they can offer anything else in the mean time.. but I'd really give it some time- let your body adjust before you go doing more to it. GOod luck! -
McDonalds = unsweet tea and that is ALL!!

After sleeve- Peanuts gave me very bad heart burn as did peanut butter however- Almonds and cashews are no problem neither are macadamia nuts. I eat almonds almost every day and started at about 4 mos post op- I drink almond milk exclusively. Popcorn for me is an absolute no no- my tummy does not like it at all- every time I try it I throw it up- and to be honest anything with corn has the same reaction- even corn chips- it is weird.... sad because I Love it- Even tried creamed corn and woops came right back up- so who knows.. maybe a few years from now i'll try it again... A LOT of the foods post op are trial and error- its like a baby- you dont wan to try too much in case you get a reaction (vomit, get stuck diarrhea etc..) but you wont know till you try because we are all different.

Protein Infor For Vegans/vegetarian
lml32937 replied to lml32937's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a vegetarian I eat mostly veggies and fruits (salads) but this chart I came accross shows that there are PLENTY of alternative Protein sources that DO NOT require you to eat animal meat, dairy and the like- It was more of an FYI for previous nay-sayers... I agree the morningstar things are very good as are the boca and other brands- Great things have come to fruition on the world of vegan/vegetarianism.... -
There have been a few times that I had a WTF did I do moment but for the most part I don't miss it and actually now totally get nauseated looking at the amounts of food people eat when we go out and think about how much I consumed absolutely disgusts me.

Dreaming About Sandwiches
lml32937 replied to 612belly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
True story- when I was in the hospital after my surgery I was stupidly watching the food channel- my favorite one... and they had a sandwich show on that showed a hamburger that was krispy kremes as the bun- it was the most amazing and worst thing I could have seen at the same time... I craved sandwiches too- I had a hard time and still do with bread and this may sound gross but in the beginning when I wanted something I took 2 saltines and put a peice of cheese and or meet and made like a sandwich because crackers were waaay easier to eat. Now I use whole wheat pita pockets and they are thin enough that it isnt a problem. GOod luck but your not weird- we all go through it and dream it too!! -
Warning! Angry And Discouraged
lml32937 replied to KikiCC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Rome was not built in a day and this lifestyle cannot be managed on diet alone- you need to exercise somehow- even if you walk- It should be a goal to get in at least 8-10k steps a day to have adequate caloric burn and get your metabolism reved up.. But I agree with most others.. you should be happy that you have lost what you have- you cannot compare yourself to anyone else's journey... -
Stupid Question: Watermelon
lml32937 replied to KikiCC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

I have lower extremit lymphedema as well and have the pump- I did the daily bandages, MLD and reed sleeves. Unfortunately due to skin allergies I am unable to wear daily compression garments. However immediately after my surgery my lymphedema improved quite drastically to the point I went 3 mos with no pump- then out of the blue I developed cellulitis in my legs and they swelled like before- I am again on daily pumping and am going to get the circ-aid's soon. Overall it is improved- as you know it will NEVER go away- My doctor says the damage is done and somewhat irrepairable. It is very disheartening too because I was soo looking forward to wearing dresses and skirts and shorts and am still very self conscious with that. ITs unfortunate because if you look on the top people can notice and compliment etc.. but then the bottom half is like WHOA... what happened ...

Worried About Egd
lml32937 replied to Elinjacksmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had an endoscopy on Monday and they dilated 2 areas of my esophagus- Nothing related to sleeve or surgery- I have had 1 about eveyr 5-6 years since my teens. It is not bad- you are knocked out and afterwards you only have a sore scratchy throat for a day or so- just make sure that if your surgeon doctor is not the one doing it that the doctor knows you had a sleeve so that a) they dont inflate too much air and go down to far into the pouch/sleeve. Good luck! -
I would say yes they are a "soft" food but do you want to go there.. probably not- If that is the only option- just eat/drink the broth- I agree if 1 or 2 or a few slip by your not gunna die but I would avoid the carbs.

Help! Best Fast Food Option W/ Protein?!
lml32937 replied to KikiCC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

I still use my CPAP although my pressures have decreased dramatically. Unfortunately my CPAP is also helping a heart condition so even if I loose enough weight to loose it for the breathing part I will still possibly need it for the heart part. Now I do miss a few days here and there and it doesnt bother me at all- if we go for a long weekend Iwont travel with it eiither.. I havent noticed any problems NOT using it.. but always check with your doctor..

Frustrations With Body Image
lml32937 replied to Cindy H's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can tell you that it doesnt get any better the further out you are- The more weight you loose the more skin you have the more issues come up it is as if you loose 1 thing and gain something else- It is a struggle to not only feel good about yourself but see the positive in what you have done- especially if people are complimenting you and you havenever been complimented before.. I saw a therapist who said body image is something even "normal" people struggle with and I would encourage you to talk to a professional if it continues to become worse. For me-I NEVER cared what Ilooked like or what i wore etc.. Now it pleases me to shop and try on clothes and look nice evne to go the grocery store-- so sometimes the negative has to be turned into a positive.... all that money I spent on food wallowing in my own pity is now spent on clothes and accessories.... -
1St Meal In Restaurant
lml32937 replied to paulsgirl1297's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also you if you like fish most places offer a baked white fish that is very soft and you can order it baked with sauce on the side- and take home whatever you dont eat- also move your food around the plate that helps distract people if they focus on your not eating... -
