Yeah I bought the splenda brown sugar and sweet potatoes last weekend. I did not like them. I never have been a fan of sweet potatoes. I had been eating the other potatoes just fine for 2 weeks. I just ate too big of a bite too fast. I am all better now and have had the mashed potatoes already just fine. I ate them extra slow though..lesson learned! Thanks for the input.

Yesterday I was 21 days post op. I am still on mushies and doing quite well, however I decided to get cocky yesterday and cooked baby carrots real soft. I kept them whole and used salt and pepper for seasoning. I had my usual mashed potatoes but decided to have a bite of carrot and then back to potatoes..etc. I think I must have eaten too fast or maybe did not chew that darn carrot because in mid bite I felt like a piece of food was stuck on my "adams apple". I kept trying to swallow it down and then tried to clear my throat but nothing was budging. I had a slight panic feeling and then retired the rest of my dinner. This was at 7:30. At 10:00 I was starting to get some pain in my band area but since the lump went away I figured the food must be moving along. I drank some water hoping to help the food. Well.. I woke up at 12:30 with some pains around the lower part of my band area. I decided to get on the computer and google to see if it was the infamous food stuck feeling. I went back to bed unsure and woke up feeling almost completely relieved but not quite perfect. Any suggestions? BTW- I placed myself back on super soft mushies today. I am a bit scared of that "feeling"

Thanks! I did call today and they think I swallowed too big of a bite of mashed potatoes and it caused esophagus spasms. I was hurting until this afternoon and then ate a pudding and a few hours later I SLOWLY ate my mashed potatoes. I feel pretty good now but I really do think I am a little swollen as I feel like I am post-op week 2 instead of week 4. Thanks for the answers

Sorry I missed your message. Yes I have lived here all my life. I live in St. Charles. How are you healing? I am back to pre-op as far as my own physical feelings but still have a little restriction from surgery which I am glad. I get my 1st fill 8-25. I have the 11 CC Realize band and will be getting 5 CC's. I am ready. My appetite is really picking up. Keep in touch

Feeling like you can't stop eating?
bandarama replied to Loving everyday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sorry you are struggling. I am 2 weeks post op and have definately found my hunger again. I am on full liquids and start mushies week 3. I went for my follow up yesterday and they do not want me to stray from my "step up" to regular foods so I am not eating everything yet. I started logging my foods as soon as I switched to full liquids due to the calories I would be able to consume. Try and log your foods so you can monitor the calories until you get your fill. Good luck and hang in there  -
I had my 1 week post-up visit today and will be returning 8-25 for my 1st fill. I asked the Doctor if he filled small amounts frequently or what and he said he starts at 5cc's. Is this a good fill amount?

Any July Bandsters out there?
bandarama replied to mgmagnolia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Went for my follow-up today (banded July 6th) and all is great. I am banned from bathing in a tub and my pool until my next visit on August 25th. BUMMER! I get my first fill next visit. I asked my surgeon if he is one that puts a dab in over many visits and he says he starts with 5cc's. Yeah! Now that I have experienced the restriction through swellling at least I have an idea what to expect. As far as drinking after surgery, I sipped day one and two but by day 4 I felt exactly like pre-op. I am on full liquids now but adjusting well. (digestive speaking) I started logging in my food journal since I have no restriction + hunger. I need to watch the liquid calories until fill #1. Hope everyone is doing GREAT!! -
How long after surgery until your incisions "healed over"?
bandarama replied to ThePoolGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just returned from my 1 week post-op follow up visit (banded 7-6-09) and return August 25th for my next follow-up and 1st fill. My surgeon is making me wait until after the next visit before I can take a bath, hot tub or pool. I am so bummed out. I missed the entire season basically. BUT next year...watch out baby!! -
Recent "bandits"
bandarama replied to tcbplainville's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I was banded Monday 7-6-2009. Today I feel G-R-E-A-T!! I was in more pain then I had expected the 1st three days but today I feel really good. I start full liquids Monday. I have had no appetite really. I just started getting the growls yesterday but I just sip on 100% juice all day and have had no real hunger issues. The tightness in my chest has finally gone. I did feel sore lying down at first but I forced myself to stay down and the pain left very quickly. I had more trouble sitting up actually. Today I plan on getting showered and getting out of the house for a while. I want to walk around and get my muscles stronger so I can stand for longer periods of time without the chest pulling pain. I think the swelling is going down and making for a much more comfortable setting. I can not wait to Monday to have Full Liquids. I hate broth,Jello and SF popcicles. LOL -
I decided to get the single incision Realize band. He went through my belly button and there is one itsy bitsy cut at my breast bone area. My pain is minimal. I keep waiting for the BIG pains but none yet. I just got home from the hopital so am heading to my family room with my pillow and blanket to rest. Yeah!!! It is finally done:thumbup:

Standing straight up really pulls at my gutt. This is a little more pain than I was expecting I think. LOL

Today is the day! I slept good last night so maybe I am calmer than I should be. It is such a long journey to make it to surgery day. I seem to only dwell on the fact the band is an "object" inside of me. Once I heal I think all that will hopefully go away.

I am on day 2 of my 7 day clear liquid diet. I cannot drink the broths or bouillons. They literally made me sick to my stomach. Can I make my own home made chicken soup and drain it for the broth. I was so sick to my stomach by the end of the day yesterday. I am not fond of any "sugar free" products so my back up of popsicles and jello was not a help. Today I am planning on just drinking tea and water. Any suggestions?

Okay..I made it through the 1st 7 days. I get banded in 4 hours! Next week should be easier as far as hunger goes. I lost 11 pounds..LOL Keep it up!!

Has anyone had experience with a Single Incision procedure? I am being banded Monday and was asked last Wednesday if I wanted to switch to Realize with the single incision. I just couldn't get enough information fast enough to swith from Lap Band to Realize. I hope I did not make a mistake.

Incisions and the Pool . . . or Ocean
bandarama replied to marathonmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am scheduled Monday for the Lap Band and thought I better find out the pool restrictions and unfortunately for me I have to wait 6 weeks! They said the risk of infecting the band cannot be taken. So I guess I will swim at the end of August for a couple weeks. I guess it saves me the embarrassment of the swimsuit for this year, but next year...watch out!!! -
July 6th! I arrive at 5:30AM and the surgery is scheduled for 8:00AM. I am on day 5 of clear liquids. This week has flown by.
-
I am on day 3 of a 7 day CLEAR liquid diet. I get nothing but broth. I figure I am gertting about 300 calories max. I am allowed Campbells soups strained in lieu of the broth stuff. That made me ill. I feel great today for some reason. Maybe tomorrow I will drop! I think you are okay with the calorie intake. You have protein supplements too right? Good luck!!

The time is near July 9th, surgery date!
bandarama replied to karibensea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! I am July 6th. I am on day 3 of the clear liquid diet. ( 7 days required). The first two were awful but today was pretty ok. I even have more energy. Weird!! Anyway good luck to everyone. I am a nervous wreck. -
6 Month Dr. supervised diet requirement
bandarama replied to overit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance required a 6 months medically supervised diet BUT only the last three had to be in the office. I had to show a steady loss to prove my commitment to lifestyle change. I was specifically told that a gain could cause issues. I was approved and had lost aproximately 5% over the three months. I am scheduled for Monday. Every single insurance is different though. Good luck! -
My surgery is scheduled for 7-6-09. The Surgeon's office called today and stated they wanted to know if I want the Lapband or Realize band. My surgeon does the single incision Realize or 4-5 incisions on the Lapband. I really see no difference in the two overall but the single incision sounds awesome. I would love any input.

Thank God they told me I can get Campbell's chicken and noodle or any of them if I strain and or dilute. I dont like the creamier soups anyway so I am gonna stick with the broth based ones. I am so excited. LOL I also bought some fruit bars (sugar free) but they may be the thick ones instead of the clear type so I may have to give those up to the kiddies. I can not wait until full liquids. This part SUCKS!!!!

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum so be gentle  I just completed my pre-operative testing and am scheduled to start a 7 day clear liquid diet on Monday and my surgery is scheduled 7-6-2009. When I left the pre-operative testing facility yesterday I was left in limbo due to my EKG showed a possible Antelateral Infarct. The Anesthesiologist acted like no biggie but the fact it was brought up and they want the Cardiologist to clear the EKG concerned me a little. I then went to the Surgeon's office and they too acted like no biggie. I figured I would have to cancel the surgery date and subsequently the start of the clear liquid diet to validate the EKG. I told the surgeon's office I did not want to start the clear liquid Monday and then get cancelled. Has anyone had the EKG show this result?
