    One meal at a time...

I agree with 2flyguys... this isn't a diet anymore. And if your gonna take advise from someone it would be her. She has done a phenominal job at using the band as a tool... Just look at what she has accomplished...she's now one of those skinny biatches we all hate! God I can't wait to be one also:thumbup: (that was meant as a compliment!) It seems so many people are not allowing themselves to move on with life after they get banded. We are all so used to dieting and all the forbidden DIET foods we forget that this is our life now. You can eat what you want with the band or I should say eat what you can tolerate, but just small portions. That is what makes this tool a wonderful thing. It seems the only real no no is carbonations. Make healthy choices 99% of the time but allow yourself to live. If you want a slice of pizza have one(and I mean when your ok'd to eat foods again) its not the one slice that got us this way, its the 5 slices and all the soda/beer that went with it and the stop at cold stone on the way home from the pizza parlor that got us this way... I guarantee that when your band is working properly and you get to that sweet spot... you will be amazed how one slice is ALOT and you will be satisfied! I have three people in my house that had the surgery within a week of each other. It amazes me how this has affected each of us all so differently... I can eat anything with no problem, and a piece of bread basically takes my husband out, he can't eat it. My son is like me and doesn't have any problems. Anyway... now that I have ranted... Enjoy your new life with your new tool and everything will be great! :smile2:

    Gonna die

We were able to eat soft Proteins and cooked vegis on day four after of our surgery and were fine. But again that is my surgeons way of doing it. We also didn't have to do anything before surgery that was special. We just couldn't eat after 12 noon the day before. So call and tell them your going crazy because they will tell you to move on to something with a little more then liquid to it, don't know what but it may help satisfy you a little better. I have come to the conclusion that there is no wrong or right way that each different surgeon does this, its whatever they feel comfortable with and what they see the best results with in their practice.
  3. Productive Burping...never had one so can't explain it.
  4. I agree with Unforgettable...this problem is so much more in our heads. There is a reason we are like this. No one wants to walk around overweight. I really feel seeing a therapist should also be part of this process for at least a full year after surgery. Pre-op does not go enough into this part of the problem One hour psych evaluation and a written multiple choice test is not enough.
  5. I understand everything you are saying... All I can offer you is a hang in there. Visualize what you can look like by next summer and keep trying. Do something nice for yourself and maybe that will help you feel a little up and not so down.
  6. I agree with the rest... the first few months are tough with lots of emotional ups and downs. I just keep doing what I am supposed to and know it will all be good in the end.
  7. Life After the Band: only difference for me is no carbonation. Don't care about soda... miss beer. Other then that, I am amazed how it is the same you just eat less. Adjusting to foods: I have not had a problem with any foods at all. I have eaten anything I want. Don't know the percentage of slippage. If I had a chance to change it: First thought is no. My only other thought is I might have looked a little more into the sleeve just because it may be faster. Plus my insurance did not cover it. But what is faster for me is not faster for others and visa versa... There are plenty of people on this site that have lost weight just as fast as peope with all the other wls... so its is different for all. Now that I am on this journey, I am so excited to get it over with and get on with my life. This is the first time in my overweight life that I know I will finally see the other side. So that just makes me want to get this done... I also have my husband and my son that have done this with me all within a two week time span (june 09) and my husband says the same thing and my son only being 19 would not have done anything else but the band and I understand that. It is still diet and exercise that makes this work. It's not magic. No matter what comes out on the market for weight loss it always comes down to eating right and exercising, bottom line. The band is just a tool that helps stop hunger and that is half the battle. The other half is in your head and why you are overweight anyway. Both have to be fixed or it won't work or it will just come back again someday. Also until you get your band to the right fill amount, it takes just as much will power as regular dieting. I don't think we are told that enough pre banding, but it's reality. Or it is for the three post surgery people that live in my house. So with that said... Go for it and don't look back. You do what the dr's tell you and it will work. Start exercising immediatly... I waited for about 6 weeks just out of laziness and that is six weeks closer to my goal. I started exercising at the YMCA 14 days ago and I have not missed a work out. I give my self two days off each week. I hate exercise but for some reason this time, I am getting addicted to it. I think it's because AGAIN I know I will complete my mission. Good Luck to you...

    Can't Stick With It

:mad:I'm gonna be the mean one of the group. Your not scared of the doctor your embarrassed to show back up and not have lost weight. Do you really think your the first person he has seen this happen too? Get over your own feelings of failure and go see the dr... The minute you see him, is the minute you stop feeling like a failure and moving on with your journey. What your doing now isn't making you feel like a success! Exercise...all excuses. Get up 30 minutes earlier then you do in the morning and move...all you have to do is move. I guarantee there is 30 minutes somewhere in your day that you are doing nothing. The more you move the more energy you have and that makes you move even more and then you will lose more weight. Don't waste this great opportunity that you have. There are so many people that want to get this done and can't because of the cost and no insurance. You are one of the lucky ones. You need to change your mind set, get back to the dr, NOW, and get started all over again. Your 20 years old... once you get this done and you get to live the rest of your life healthy and happy... I waited until I was 44 to take care of my problem and missed out on a lot of years. I say all of this with love:smile2:... I think you need a swift kick in the booty to get going again, stop making excuses and move on. You can't change the past but you can steer your future in the right direction! Good luck to you and get moving!
  9. Good call Ocotillo... People are too focused on the daily weighing and just need to go on with life and and let this happen. If you eat like your supposed to it will work. This is for the rest of your life. It's a slow and steady processes. I see some of the posts are people that just had surgery two or three weeks ago and are complaining that they have only lost 16 or whatever pounds... Even if some or most of that was pre op It wouldn't have happened if you didn't decide to get the band. YOU did the work to lose those pounds no matter when it happened. Let's say it was 16 pounds in a month.. If you were doing weight watchers or whatever you wouldn't be mad if you were lossing 4 pounds a week! So be happy that the weight you have lost is forever this time even if you go up and down a little... Forget you have the band (except don't forget to chew chew chew:rolleyes2:) your going to mess up every now and then; make sure you enjoy every minute of your mess up and move on :smile2: and enjoy your new life and the great tool you have chosen to give yourself... Don't be a slave to the scale!
  10. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with getting banding at 18/19 with BCBS... did you have to do anything special or did it happen easily. Thanks
  11. Cook a few different things on sundays and put in individual servings in the freezer. I also use the crock pot. With the protein part of the meal done it's easy to add some vegis or fruit for you and your son. Just a suggestion. Hope it helps.

    Hairloss?

I asked the nutrionist this on Wednesday at my appointment and she said in the 5 years she has been at my surgeons office she has never had anyone complain of hairloss with the lap band... So who knows, everyone is different.
  13. It seem every dr has a different way of doing this anyway... My dr had us on regular food day 4...just no carbs. Who knows who's correct just as long as it works.

    Lapband pain vs c section

Not even close to the same amount of pain. I am two weeks post op and besides the incision marks on my stomach which are basically healed...I feel like I did before surgery. This is best thing I ever did... My husband had surgery the same day as me and he is back to normal also. Surgery day and the next are the worst and that isn't bad. The hardest part I had was for the first week I couldn't get comfortable sleeping. But that is gone also... My son is three weeks post op and he helped his friends move a couple of days ago. Not recommended but he is 19 and thinks he is invincible. But my point is he is not feeling anything either. So good luck and enjoy the experience. I wouldn't change a thing... ps, I wasn't saying that a week and a 1/2 ago, but now I am! Expecially since I have lost 17 pounds since surgery :tongue2:
  17. I had my surgery this past Thursday....Went back today (monday)... I was home Friday, had to go back and forth to the hospital all weekend to see my husband who had the same surgery the same day but had complications. I have two little kids also, when to a fathers day bar-b-que on Sunday...did laundry, cleaned and life just went on for me. I had no time to rest. It's a mom thing I guess. Not saying its the correct way, but you have to do what you have to do. I worked all day today, went grocery shopping and it's 11:30 pm right now and I am typing this while I am making meals to eat during the week... So if all goes well and you dont have a physical job you should be good to go... I also have not had any pain killers since I left the hospital on Friday. I hurt but not more then child birth! Good Luck to you!
  18. Call your surgeon and let them know...My husband had the same thing done on Thursday the 18th... Lap band and hernia repair. I also had surgery, just lap band. I am back to work today and he is still in the hospital... We came home Friday evening, the entire time we were home until 7:30 saturday morning he was foaming and having to spit it out. I called and they said to bring him right back up since this ment his stomach was swollen shut. He has been there since with IV fluids and morphin to try and get the swelling down. Don't mess around, you could get dehydrated and make things worse. Good Luck!
  19. If it makes you feel better.. I had my surgery on Thrusday the 18th.. had to do clear liquids until Sunday (yesterday) and i get to eat proteins a cooked vegis for the next 30 days. We aren't allow any carbs for 30 days... Anyway I ate cottage cheese today and hit hurts and is making me feel sick. I would rather be on liquids if I am going to feel like this eating...So hang in there. I think your dr's way is better then allowing to eat 4 days out.
  20. I see you are going in tomorrow...Good Luck!!! Me and my husband go in today at noon...Very nervous, but my son is a week out from surgery and is doing great so that makes me feel better! Hope you have a speedy recovery and the excess just melts away!

  24. It is 12:55 am Thursday night (Friday Morning) and I just got home from my son's surgury. What a long day. He was scheduled for 1:30 and didn't get into the operating room until 4:45. Got in a room at 8:00... I cried because I felt like a bad mom since he looked like he was in so much pain. They got him up to walk at 11:00 he did pretty good, lots of pain. Left him asleep in his chair!

My husband and I are Thursday next week. I was very excited but it sure looks painful after seeing my son. It will all be worth it in the long run.

So tell me how you are doing. Tell me how everything went from surgury up to now. How much pain? What are you eating? I feel like I really don't know what to eat after surgury even after going to the classes. Is it harder then you thought or pretty much what you expected... Sorry for so many questions, I am just going crazy with worry!

Keep me posted on your progress
