I just had my band yesterday and I am feeling pretty good, yes they take you down to the skin, you get one of their lovely hospital gowns. I was told 2 weeks for swimming and 2 weeks for sex. What I wish they told me that is hard as I research the heck out of everything myself.

Protein shakes make me vomit
OnTheWay to Thin replied to mpetterc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with you, I had my sg this am and am trying to get protien down, I have unjury but the chicken soup flavor gagged me, using unflavored in juice and it is better but not great. I am hoping I will get more used to it and I will definately send my son to gnc for that chocolate tomorrow, that sounds perfect. Thanks for the suggestion. -
So I am home and doing well. Really quite an amazing day, much better than I anticipated. I had been scheduled to be at the hospital at 9:15 with surgery at 10:45, so I am getting ready about 7:45 and the phone rings, doctor had a cancellation, can I come in asap. So I get dressed abnd we jump in car and get to the hospital around 8:20, got all checked in, got iv started and all that sort of stuff, they were really hurrying to get me through so I did not have time to think or worry. 9:00 I kiss my husband goodbye and head to the surgery suite, they started at 9:30 (I am told) and I was in recovery answering questions at 10:50. Was sitting up by 11:50 or so, walking by 12:15, pee'd, walked, headed home by 1:15. Not groggy, not in too much pain yet. Drinking juice and all so while I know tomorrow will be worse, I am very relived so far that it has been pretty easy.

Suggestions Please,New to site
OnTheWay to Thin replied to heyred1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have decided on the lapband because it is not nearly as intrusive as something like the GB, I did not want my digestion rerouted and the possible complications. My mother before she died had absorption problems and had not had a WLS surgery, just in case I have similar issues as I age I felt the lapband was good because it was adjustable and if absolutely necessary reversable. That being said I dont want to lose it but if I had to it would be dooable. For the diet I am getting my band tomorrow, I had to lose at least 10 lbs in 20 days, I did it by going on a very strict 1100-1200 calorie a day diet, focusing on lean meat, veg and fruit. I had no pasta, no bread, no rice, no potatoes, no starch of any kind. I actually lost 13.5 lbs or so in 20 days. Hope this helps. -

Interesting Dilemma -- Where do I go for fills?
OnTheWay to Thin replied to beaglemom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would stick with the specialists in wls, although your doctor could probably do it if he did not have the correct training he could also puncture your port line and then you would have to have another surgery. -
if you have a vitamix that is far better than a bullet, so you are good.

Are these things because of the pre-op diet?
OnTheWay to Thin replied to LindaD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think our bodies are so used to getting so much more from us that they are just rebelling a bit. Loss of soda, calories, food, sugar, caffein, lots of reasons to be cranky. -
WOW that is sad in so many ways. I do my surgery tomorrow.. YIKES, a bit nervous, but also want it overwith... then the fun begins...

I had the issue with being cold, weird I never have that issue. I am in menopause and had not had a periond since January but right after I started preop bam here it came. My doctor said when you lose weight the fat has stores of estrogen that may cause period abnormalities. Sleep that is anxiety for me, tomorrow is my surgery YIKES! Hang in there. -
If Your New and You Know It Clap Your Hands
OnTheWay to Thin replied to Makulafamy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That is not enough nutrition to keep you healthy, definately call your doctor, I suspect you have misunderstood your instructions, normally full clear liquid diets include broth, jello, clear fruit juice like apple and white grape, if you dont eat more than what you mentioed you are going to pass out very soon! LOL seriously call your doctor, that does not sound right. -
Did I eat too much?
OnTheWay to Thin replied to VLOslund's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I am in your neck of the woods and being banded next week. I would definately not add any more food until this passes and try to stick with liquids so you dont dehydrate. If you are not in pain or anything you are probably safe to wait until tomorrow to talk to the doctor but explain what you did and how you feel so he can check you out. -
WARNING! BCBS/Blue Cross of California
OnTheWay to Thin replied to Phranp's topic in Insurance & Financing
the doctor/surgery center is definately in breach of contract if they are a participating or contracted provider with your insurance. So you have recourse, it just sucks that it will mess up your surgery date. Good luck with finding a way around this. I agree with Parrot, ask your insurance company for a referral and then also let them know that their doctor refused you service. They need to kick them out of their program. But also do file al complaint with the insurance commissioner, this is an unethical practice. -

OnTheWay to Thin replied to lunarosa's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Tina I am very close in stats, I am 48, I am taller but my bmi and all is similar, I have high blood pressure and arthritis, I have bcbc of Mass and they approved me pretty quickly, I go in for lap band next week. I am excited and nervous, but know this is the right thing for me. Good luck with your approval process. -
Banding on May 21st 2009. Who else?
OnTheWay to Thin replied to lotsabirds's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Funny I was told no dark or bright polish of any color but light or semi sheer color was fine. I also have acrylic on my nails and they said that was fine. -

I am with you all I am the 28th and in one way wish it would be here and over with in another not so much. LOL I am doing good on the pre op diet, dr wanted me to lose 10 lbs and as of today I have done that since my last visit, 14 or so overall. So I have 8 more days or so so I guess I can drop another lb or 2 in that time. -
Steve - I dont think I meant it like you took it, I meant it was reversable in the event there was an unforseen complication that made it necessary, after all the trouble I have had to get the band I dont want to give it up. But unlike the GB or BS you cant undo that once it is done, so if there are major problems or complications you can't sew the stomach back together. I agree this is big business and it is a lot about money and all that, but I am ok with that if it gives me tools I can use to end my battle with weight gain once and for all.

I understand about the foods other family members keep,or want, but you cant make a decision for your husband to lose weight, weight loss is a very personal decision and will only happen when he is ready to do it. So if I may offer a bit of advice, be very careful about trying to put him on your diet. Overall, as a family we are making better food choices because of what I cook, but I still have to be mindful that my husband and son are not getting banded and have not made the decision to lose weight. If I try to force this on them they will likely revolt and that is not the way to gain cooperation.

question about hunger and irritibility
OnTheWay to Thin replied to Dreamjeans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck, I know how hard it is to try and lose under the gun like that. Insurance sometimes does not make a lot of sense, but you are committed and that is half the battle. We will be sending positive thoughts your way. -
A newbie who is doubting having the band done

question about hunger and irritibility
OnTheWay to Thin replied to Dreamjeans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in week 3 of my preop diet and I can so relate, I am being banded next week. It does get easier, after a few days your body seems to get used to the new reality and does not complain as loudly. I am curious does your doctor require a liquid diet for 6 week or are you just doing it because of the amount of weight you need to lose first? I am doing 1200 calories a day and having good steady weight loss so I hope my doctor is pleased with that on surgery day. The last 3 days before surgery are full liquids. -
A newbie who is doubting having the band done
OnTheWay to Thin replied to GettingMyLifeBack's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi I am 48 and getting the band next week. I know how tought this decision is, I tend to investigate and research the heck out of everything and I understand your concerns. I do agree with the above though, there are so many happy and successful banded people but they are out there living their lives and having fun now that they have lost their weight rather than being on here telling us how happy they are. Does that make sense? For me this seems to make the most sense, I have lost 100lbs several times and gained it back, so I know I can lose weight just cant keep it off, so for me this seems like the best thing I could do, as it will help me with the part I have issues with. Good luck with your decision.
