The majority of what we have here for dinner during Ramadan is Soup, (shorba) I was thinking that would just fall right through??? most of it is puree'd. Anyone else? What do you eat during Ramadan?

Jean, Hello, I just got the order of Isopure, I bought the Natural chocolate and vanilla and the isolate (clear) I cracked open the chocolate it was really good even in water! I have been collecting my "supplies to get ready for for my surgery date.. TBA When is Ramadan this year? I think it is going to be close... and recovery etc... so I don't know. I will have to check the date. My husband brought home the Protein shots, by body choice, with 25 gr protein... those are nasty taste like a really strong sweet tart. BLAH! I have never lost weight during Ramadan EVER

Cgail A friend of mine once told me that Dr Krahns group holds meetings ... but other than that I am not sure of anything local aside from local chapters of OA. If you find something let me know... I will do the same. Have you asked your dr office, I would think they would know. -

Could I Need Counseling

I love this thread too ... it resonates with me all the things you'all have said, I see my posts. I use my weight as buffer as well as other things... including excuses for under acheiving in my life. I went for my first counseling session.... I told her I was planning on doing the lapband this summer and I need to work my head out so that I can be successful at losing the weight. She has counseled a number of people that have had wls. She told me that I seem to know myself really well, so why am I here.... LOL cuz I can't fix it with strategies within my comfort zone to take the steps so I don't freak out and so that I am able to attain real, lasting change. So I thought I would begin with addressing my marital / sexual issues more ... It entailed a history of me and my MOTHER... there are some serious issues there !!!! I know them... but was ready to deal with the obvious, my husband .... LOL Ahhhh She is Good she nailed the Jello me! At the end I told her... Ok, now you made me cry and I need to go pee so I am going home now! She has a good sense of humor, that is good... Houston, I think we have a match here! My husband thinks that the counselor thing is a lapband insurance requirement, I didn't tell him I had my psych eval and this was on my own, of my own choosing .... I guess he would be happy to hear I wasn't in there roasting him! But I am not going to tell him that, not now. Something has got to give here and I am great at psycho analyzing myself.... but I can't "fix-it", I am however great at helping and supporting other people.... I also admitted that I thought that people of my age who suddenly remember things from their childhood were nuts and I didn't believe it... over the last few years a lot of that has happened to me!!!! I will be 42 in a month!!! So onward and upward! I am glad I went, and I am a person that has afew friends that I am really open with, but I am glad I made this step for myself. I am glad that we clicked and she gets my humor! -

Oh yeah pica I forgot about that ... Nope I don't think so. that was the worst thing she has taken... she chooses to hoard sweets like candies and chocolates I believe to keep her blood sugar up so she doesn't pass out... I think when she feels weak she pops one or 2 ... -

I have not been banded yet. I have pre op test next friday. I did call Dr Krahn hard to get anyone to return calls, Dr Coon I called too and they wanted like $2500 up front in set up fees etc plus I would have to pay 10% of surgery etc. I have heard great things about Dr Krahn, but his staff is not on the ball. -
using protein powder in baking?
HappyHomeCC replied to hallelujah.girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was thinking the same thing... or would the heat alter it? Maybe we need to email a manufacturer to find out. -
Wow. I am interested to see what my dr will say. I will let you know how that goes. Funny that I have seen so many of your posts and keep wanted to comment on your picture and how much I LOVE it... I am glad to know that you are here as well as the other "sistas" so cool thank you!

I sent out the packet to you hope it helps The way I understood was they want you to lose a couple of pounds and stick with it so to show staying power commitment etc. I don't get the feeling that the professionals on our side want us to lose a lot of weight and get the BMIs down .. LOL then they lose business because our insurance may deny the procedure... I told my nutritionalist so what happens if I lose too much will they deny me? she told me "we wont let you " I just had to laugh.

My husband would be happy if I switched to a sex addiction as long as it involves him LOL -
I have only been told about the nutritional counseling and I have been talking with her via email and phone, I haven't had to go see her in person. She said they like to see a few pounds lost ( but not to much or you could be denied) She says I am at 42 BMI on the paper work so I have "wiggle room". Basically she sent me an email packet of stuff and we have had discussions. I can email you the packet if you like!

Willowcat - You hit the nail on the head. If I lose the weight, I will no longer have that easy out of "it's not me, it's their bias against the weight. If I wasn't fat, they wouldn't reject me/treat me that way/ whatever." I am definitely going back to therapy! I was in therapy before, but after a point, just kept running into the obstacle of my weight and felt I needed to start dealing with that before I could really progress. I would recommend therapy for anyone who is interested in it - it does work if you are really committed to overcoming and changing! yes I use it as a barrier, a cusion, etc Yup this is me, My Dr Phil and what is your pay off......... I start counseling MONDAY! AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH I have had a rough day... confronting my eating disorder niece who has been living with me for 6 months. After finding a raw potato that fell out of her back back......... We had a good talk......... we both cried together........ good bonding moment. I love her so much. She is 19 and I am afraid for her. -
I have Aetna Choice POS II and I am on a 3 month hold, I talk to the nutritionalist 3 times and that is about it.. 90/10 coverage. I am about half way through right now... I think it is good to have that hold ... gives time to really think and research what products you want to use, think of all your questions, reformat the pantry LOL. Figure out with your husband or significant other what meals will look like later and how he can support you. I have my daughter who is 11 reading labels for serving sizes etc! I decided to go for counseling on my own aside from the psych eval they did for the insurance. I have my first appt on Monday.

Could I Need Counseling
HappyHomeCC replied to jetsy62's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you and I must be related. I do the exact same thing. I kinda know where this comes from, I just don't know what to do with it. So in response to knowing my behaviors and weightloss I am going to see a counselor on Monday. I know that BEFORE I get banded I need to work on these issues. I want to have the most success I can so I decided it is time... I am almost 42 and I have learned a lot about myself in the last couple of years. Maybe you should try a counselor and I personally am going to look up that book "dance of intimacy". Thank you for posting your feelings you made me think about myself -
cool we can compare notes as to how "doped up we are" :smile: Just remember not to use your fist as the tamper in that Kick A$$ blender OKAY! ;o) I don't have my surgery date yet... I am on a 3 month hold. I am guessing end of July begining of Aug. Maybe I will have a date when I go in for the pre-op I need to talk to the nutritionalist 2 more times (on the phone). I got an packet from her via email and have asked her questions and she has answered. She has been quick to respond... so for that I am thankful. Hey ya'll I think the magic bullet is great for things like salsa, baby food, small occasional jobs... Ice however... or frozen fruit mmmmmm NOPE. At least not in the quantities I prepare. I made 4 kids smoothies this afternoon... so I did about a 40 ounce thick drink FAST. I wouldn't trade the vita- mix for the world. :sad:
-
I have to admit I read this and I busted out laughing.... Please save your money. I used to own a coffee shop. The Vita-mix is a kick A$$ blender. Most likely will last you your life time.... I have one at home and make smoothies all the time for the kids. (I had 3 of them and sold them for $275 each when we closed down) My husband thought he was smart and bought that magic bullet (he works for Costco) Thinkin it was cute and to save space blah blah blah LOL ... I burned that sucker out after 6 drinks. ( we like our smoothies thick with ice!) needless to say I sent that thing back! If you need replacement parts the company I dealt with and still do is EverGreen Trade ( in CA) 1 800 422 7980. They have great customer service and prices are great as well. Most likely you have a $400 model. Don't give it up for the world! You have a winner!
-
I lost the 75% of my income just last week, I hear you! I am self employed so I cannot collect a dime ! So frustrating! I know in CA that if something like that happens where you get a reduction of hours you can collect some unemployment benefits to help off set the difference. check with your state unemployment office and see if they can help you. I hope they can... hang in there. {{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}

Is anyone keeping their surgery a secret?
HappyHomeCC replied to Dreamjeans's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you are right about the smoking... I don't smoke or drink etc but people that I have known in the past have made comments how I just need to quit eating so much or this or that food... I don't see one of them quiting their addiction... not even with the ease of them getting RX to help them. They are not willing to change their lifestyle. I heard one say "Oh I can't quit then I will get fat" Touche! They don't realize this isn't a magic pill and to lose you have to commit to a lifestyle change that is HARD. ESPECIALLY , if the world around you is pigging out on your favorite foods! I have told the people closest too me and my own dr. My family is very supportive and the couple of friends that I have that are over weight... only one is negative, I think because she doesn't have insurance or is worried that I won't want to be her friend later , Idon't know yet what her mind is telling her. The others want to see how I do and they may do it too...LOL. (that would be cool to have the "buddies" close at hand! We could go to lunch and share a plate LOL. Affordable dining out! I have called a counselor and have an appt on June 1st through my husbands EAP and I have my pre-op on the 12th. I can't wait to get on the other side of surgery. Actually I can't wait for the pre-op diet have to! To get the weightloss jumpstarted... I typically loose really well on "liquid-diets" Now I can have help not to gain it back!!!!!!! Whooooo- HOOOOOOO!
