If you are early in your LapBand journey....
moonbeam replied to LindaD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
sitting in those new pedicure chairs that massage your butt and hips and be able to turn the thing on and not hear it grind it's gears or have it squeeze me in a hurtful way because I don't fit between the sides of it! Sit in Fold away chairs without being afraid..very afraid! Not get stuck in the harness at the zip line place or hang from the safety line waiting for 3 big men to rescue me. Wear a wet suit. Not feel sorry for the horse I'm sitting on. Not think about my weight every day Ahh clothes shopping! Go into lulu lemon store, tell them I have wads of money to spend but because they didn't think to carry above a size 12 when I was a size 20 I would not be giving them my business. Even Fat people like to look good in work out clothes! -
Hi Mandine, I can understand your eagerness to get the process started (and saving 2000!) but better to be safe than sorry right? Personally I have experienced no hair loss. I'm guessing that hair loss could be a result of poor nutrition... Keep us posted!

Ahh the journey of self discovery.. and slime! Jeez what a slimey weekend! lol I've discovered that bacon doesn't go down, neither do hot dog weiners. It's the weirdest thing though, I seem to be able to eat chips and popcorn and cookies just fine! I went camping in St Malo this weekend and wistfully looked at the kayacks and thought that one day I would fit into one of those! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hi All. Two things stick out from the consult I had with the dietitian. One ..don't drink carbonated beverages..WHY? I am a diet pepsi addict and I'm having a hard time letting that go, but don't want it to be the thing that derails me. And the 2nd one was hard candy and sunflower seeds.. refresh my surgery addled memory for me? Thanks!

I would pick a totally hot outfit that shows off your new curves, go get a pedicure, your hair done the works and and feel fantastic! -
Because that would be far too simple and would make way to much sense! Why start being reasonable now? lol kidding thanks for the very obvious answer to my question.

Happy Dance for Tammar! Now that's a milestone! Way to go. !! Gotta love the non scale victories eh? They really seem to mean more. How are you finding the Wii Fit? I'm seriously considering getting one but after spending all the money in the world I have on this and then missing the sale they have on right now... I don't know if I want to spend the money for something like that unless I know it's not just another weight loss tool i won't use.

It's hard to describe, but basically it feels like my mouth fills with slimey spit and I burp a bit. I suppose that's what some call a PB(productive burp) Not sure though. I have heard of others getting slimey though. yuck, but:drool: yay!

Seriously?? OMG I could have saved over 2000. crap. Sometimes ignorence is bliss. Oh well, happy for those who were able to save some money. -
Hi all. Had my 3rd fill yesterday and begged for 1 1/2 as Dr B just wanted to put 1 in. I got my 1 1/2 and yay I finally feel something! Total for fills puts me at 4 1/2 cc's. I am very relieved to be feeling restriction. To be honest I was starting to feel very depressed and 2nd guessing my decision to get the band. Today is only day one after that last fill, but I experienced slime and discomfort after trying to eat some cold chicken. How odd is it that we are happy to feel discomfort and pain? I've actually gained back 4 pounds since the surgery so now I hope things start to go back the other way. Fingers crossed!

Oh God Ate Too Much Slime, Burping etc.

I got slimed for the first time today. I was actually glad it happened! This is the first time since I got my fill in April that I have felt anything different. I got a fill last night and I'm happy to finally have "proof" of my band working. I was starting to get so depressed. -
SK, definitely call for that appointment. Sounds like things get pretty hectic for Jen there. Mimi, my fill is at 3:30. Guess we won't be seeing each other. Next time maybe! Tammar, wow I would definitely talk to the Doc's about that! I'm going for my 3rd fill and have no problem eating anything yet. And I do drink with my meals (I know I know it's bad! ) I agree with SK it's so hard not to! I'm hoping with this fill I will start to feel different and with that hopefully act different.
-
Hi mimi I'll be there for a fill. Not sure on the time yet, it seems to change a fair bit from the original scheduled time. Hopefully Jen will let me know tomorrow. What time is yours?
-
Hi leslee, nice to see you here, welcome! Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I'm like you... I have had no weight loss other than what I lost on the pre op diet. I'm patiently waiting to feel some sort of difference with the band. Crossing my fingers my next fill gets me a bit closer. I've had 2 fills both were 1 1/2 cc's. I agree, we should all find a way to meet. I was going to say lets get together and grab some dinner (Isn't it funny how our social lives are food centred?) But we could always meet for some straw less non carbonated beverages in the mid afternoon so as not to compromise the no liquids with the meal policy...) lmao.

What a great idea! Come to think of it, I never do shop in thrift stores because their selection of plus size clothing is usually even uglier than the stuff I have in my closet. One more thing to look forward to! Thanks! :tongue2: -
Hi Mandine, I was banded April 14th. I had a lot of the same concerns you had. I'm a single mom as well, and the cost of the procedure was shocking to me. I figured it out though and between the costs of the fad diets, books, clothes as I yo yo'd in and out of sizes and mostly my mental health for beating myself up as I go.. I decided it was worth the price. I lost 11 pounds on the pre op diet. After being banded to date I have lost another 6 or so.. depends on the day. While I"m not thrilled with my weight loss since the band, I am rather impressed that I have not gained anything back yet. I would be in what people call bandster hell as I am not yet getting much benefit from my band. On my 2nd fill a few weeks ago I started to notice just a bit. I can feel my band now, I feel fuller sooner, but I know I'm no where near the sweet spot yet as I just polished off a hamburger and fries. :rolleyes2: I do know that with my next fill I will probably start to feel more benefit from the band. So ..the jury is still out for me whether this was worth the 18000 but I'm very hopeful and I think it boils down to patience. I would rather not put out more money on weight watchers and herbal magic. I'm hoping that with the band as a tool for Portion Control and helping me feel full sooner and longer I won't need to put out the money for more of a plan. We can use the dietitian Danielle for the first year for "free" as part of the cost and I'm pretty sure that's what I will be continuing to do. Good luck to you!

I'm taking Advil, don't seem to be having any problems with that.
-
Yay Fish! Happy things went well for you. :blushing: Tammer, great idea joining weight watchers, do you know if others bandsters go there? I agree a support group here in Manitoba would be nice.

Productive Burp is when something comes up with burp if I'm not mistaken.. not sure as it hasn't happened to me yet. I told close friends and family, but I avoided telling co workers, and people who don't know me well. I'm glad I didn't, and actually wish I could "untell" some people. I knew this would be a slow process, but didn't really realize quite how slow it would actually be. It may be just in my head but sometimes I see my family or friends watching me and think they might be wondering why I have not lost weight, or watching how much is on my plate. I feel even more self conscious now about how much I eat when others are around than I did before! I'm sure that will change as I get to my sweet spot and the band starts working as it was designed to.

Hey Fish how are you feeling? Let us know!
-
Mine is about an inch up from the belly button as well and two inches over. I've started yoga, and I can feel it sometimes then.. I worry I'll dislogde it sometimes when I do a funky stretchy move.
-
Hi All. It was nice to see some of you today. Want to be Loser I agree with mimi, once those staples are out you are going to feel SO much better. Definitly keep us posted on your progress!
-
Hi Tracy, I did not have my surgery covered. As far as I know lap band surgery is not covered in Manitoba. Maples charges 18300 approx. Follow up visits for up to a year are covered by this, as well as consults with the dietitian and the psychologist. Good luck, let us know what you decide!
-
Thanks mimi! I'm happy for you! How long did it take to get there? My last/first fill was 1 1/2cc and I'm worried I'm going to have to wait 3 or more months just to get somewhere close to feeling any difference. I have not lost any weight in the last month. Do they go up by 1 1/2 cc everytime or did they ever give you more than that?
-
Mimi, how many cc's?
