The real reason for wanting the Lap Band

:scared2: I have a bmi of 40 with no comorbities...eventhough i have a few heart flutters here and there the tests say my heart is strong and I'll be fine...but what happens when im 300lbs and my heart isnt that strong. hopefully that day will never come. I have other first cousins with heart issues, and some are overweight and some arent. High blood pressure, brain aneursyms, diabetes also plagued some other loved ones. Bottom line i do no want to reach any of these points. I work as an emt here in the city...(911 ems) 75% of people that i encounter have medical problems that involve some sort of neglect to the persons health..which brought on their conditions. a person who comes into the er with a diabetic crisis and is 400 lbs and huffing and puffing are looked down upon. The person who is 125 lbs and has a diabetic crisis is looked at with sympathy..and it must be a bad luck of the draw why they are diabetic...but who knows if their condition is congenital or if their eating habits are just as bad as the 400lb person? I remember being 140lbs in 4th grade when my friends were 85lbs. They weighed us all one day in gym class and i was mortified she would say my weight out loud. Thank god my best friend was also around the same weight. we were shaped like full grown women with C-cup breasts. I want to be healthier too. If i told u it wasnt for cosmetic reasons at all i would be lying lol. its 50/50...when you look better you feel better i always say. I dont want my weight to be a factor anymore in my life. im not all sad and depressed about it, just disapppointed... i dont want to be a size 16..id rather be a size 9 and preserve my sanity. Now as i wait for all my pre-requisites to be completed for this surgery...i have alot to think about and prepare for. I look forward to it

  5. hi. i wanted to know how long were u on the liquid diet and is that required for everyone?

  6. hi there! i went to orientation already. i have an appt with my pcp on the 24th which i will collect all the ten million referrals needed. my insurance requires me to have referrals for everything outside of a gyn dr. then my appt with surgeon is on the 30th.so im just tryna stay on the right track. with the psych eval there are basically looking to make sure u arent depressed and have realistic expectations for what the surgery will entail. soooo no spilling the beans about impulsive binge eating and how they teased u in high school cuz they will raise red flags. how about urself whats new?

  7. Sigh* im sure you have heard the all too familiar "No, no, no please don't have the surgery you aren't that big! you can do it on your own!" Followed by some sort of advice about alternative weightloss...that you have probably tried three years ago. LoL when talking to nay sayers it triggers your dormant insecurities....or maybe you have obvious insecurity who knows? Either way keeping it to yourself isn't such a bad idea at times. Sharing your plans of surgery with some people does come with some stigma, but the flipside is that it can empower you also. You're probably like "wtf is she talking about??" What I mean is while you are debating with the nay sayer you can actually transform that person into a temporary physical manifestion your insecurity and your fears. Tell your fears why you need to have this surgery. Stare the worry in it's eyes and don't back down. Im not telling you to do this daily because it can be tedious...but use that annoying neighbor or coworker as a tool to strengthen yourself. Don't let anyone dictate your life. I'm sure when your bed bound at 500lbs the nay sayers will have some more advice for you too. It's your life, no one else has to live it but you.
  8. so how long have u been back n forth to the doctors before u sent in your application? and u have to be on the liquid diet for a whole week prior to surgery?? thats crazy. lol my bestfriend had to go on liquid diet for like two days before her surgery for gastric bypass.. that is going to be extremely difficult for me

  9. whoa two weeks?? i have hip also. the dr did tell me that they usually dont make u wait so long. congratulations. do u have myspace?

  10. hello there i wanted to ask you how long you are expected to be on the liquid diet prior to the surgery. that is something that will be very difficult for me :-? how long did it take you to get approved?

  11. hey there mama, showing u some nyc love :-D

Not Sure If you Want Your Friend & Family to Know??

I think that people can be a bit insensitive when discussing the issue of bariatric surgery. I dont think its a person's duty to wear a t-shirt that says "Hey i've had bariatric surgery" but when people ask about the weight loss i think the banded person should be honest because if you lie then you are giving someone false hope....and if you tell the truth you can inspire someone. That person may have been thinking they were doomed to remain overweight. Alot of obese people feel that surgery is for the super obese, that surgery isnt N option for them...which isnt true. So i guess the army's slogan in regards to homosexuality also applies to surgery...dont ask dont tell.
