I rarely eat traditional American breakfast foods, for breakfast, anymore. One of my favorite things to eat in the morning is different stir-frys or sautees with things like black beans, veggies and brown rice. It really helps me stay satisfied

How long have you been banded - Poll
FighterGirl replied to HAL380's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been banded for almost 7 years. I did have an issue with slippage, but apparently it was a common issue with fills and the older model band I had had. Since I have been rebanded, almost 4 years now, I have had no problems. -
My weight loss has slowed:(
FighterGirl replied to mom2girls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree 100%. You have to keep variety and balance in both your exercising and diet. However, as you build muscle, your weight loss may seem to be slowing down, but you may be at a stage where the inches are coming off. I suggest to everyone who is being banded try at the most to only weigh yourself once a week, on the same day, at the same time. -
Please help me understand some things.....
FighterGirl replied to johnphx's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Great attitude. I think it is hard to stay uplifted with the band sometimes when you look at others who have had the bypass also. You sometimes want that overnight result. It took me almost 4 years to reach my goal weight, but the best thing about it is that I have maintained it for the last 3. I think discussion boards and groups are one of the best tools to accompany the band. -
Straws are like taking large gulps because of the amount of air and liquid that you take in while drinking may overfill your pouch.

Hi Pretty Potato,
I am in the Michigan area as well. If you ever need a friend or some support, please feel free to contact me.

Get unfilled! Do not put yourself through that to try to lose weight. It will come off! It takes awhile to figure out your perfect formula. It took me 4 years to reach my current weight and I had the same ups and downs. I had to constantly go in for fills and reached a point where from being overfilled I had a slippage. The slippage led to rebanding, so find someone local who can help.

What foods can you not tolerate w/band?
FighterGirl replied to leroyspuds's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as steak, I have learned that rare to medium rare are digestable...especially the higher end cuts. My surgeon suggested something that really works. When I go out to eat, I will have a glass of red wine because it suppose to help relax the esophagus. -
my experience got a tt and a breast lift!!
FighterGirl replied to karen_karen's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Your swelling will be on and off for about a year. I suggest not buying any new clothes and watching your sodium intake. I used bromelain supplements to help with the swelling. It contains the same enzymes as pineapples which help with inflamation and bruising. -

How to deal with snacks and a family
FighterGirl replied to jingleboob's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have spent my entire life fighting my weight and that was one of my biggest battles. I was a kid and while my family ate fried chichen I was expected to eat salads. You need to honestly tell him that you have not reached the point in your journey to handle the temptation when it is so readily available. -
To Tell or Not to Tell?
FighterGirl replied to 2beskinny's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I decided to only tell those closest to me. My parents and my closest friends. The weight loss journey has been a tough one for me. I have failed and had people comment on it or my eating habits just because they knew I was trying to lose weight. I wanted to keep it to myself because I was not strong enough at the time to go to such an extreme and possibly fail. It is all a personal choice and there is no right or wrong here. -
I would suggest foodgawker.com to find good recipes

Need tummy tuck doctor who has experince w/lapband patients
FighterGirl replied to jennifernc88's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I would suggest checking out obesityhelp.com, they list plastic surgeons who specialize in WLS patients. After that, just research a lot. Any surgeon worth his weight has pictures to show you and patients you can talk to. -
Right now, your weight loss is not your focus. You need to focus on healing and adjusting to life with the band. Stay off the scale! I would say stay off until you are preparing to start excercising and eating full solids. Follow the doctors instructions now and you will attain and maintain a healthy you in no time.

You were beautiful before, but there is a shine from the inside now. Keep it up!

I think the concept of a diet is the wrong way to go into this. Have you already started your healthy eatting journey? The thing that I always suggest to people is the "perimeter diet." Avoid the aisles in the grocery store. If you buy your food from the perimeter you are going to be purchasing fresh, unprocessed foods that are very filling. The main rule of thumb at each meal is lean Protein, deep colorful vegetables and complex carbs (fruit/grain).

Looking for meal ideas
FighterGirl replied to tke100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, try some pressure cooker and crock pot (slow cooker) meals. The meat and veggies always come out super tender which makes it easier for you to digest with little worry of pbing. -
I am not sure about the steak as I am a prime rib medium rare eater which is really tender. I have no problem eating any of the things on your list. It really a question of how it is prepared.

I am a big casserole person. I found that Shepherds Pie is a great versatile meal that is easy to digest and you can make a million ways. You can use white potatoes or yams, chesse or no cheese, an array of veggies, meat of your liking and have a simple balanced meal. Farmer's skillets make awesome breakfasts. Bell peppers, onions, hashbrowns, sausage or bacon, scrambled eggs topped with cheese. -

Anyone 5 years or more post-op?
FighterGirl replied to Pink Stella's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been banded for 6 years, I was rebanded to a larger band in 2006. I had a slow weight loss, but I have achieved a size I like and have maintained it for 2 years.
