  1. Hi I am scheduled to have my surgery on April 30, at the Richardson Surgery Center with Dr. Benavides. I went in on April 16 for the intial consult and I am already scheduled for surgery, so I am very excited but also overwhelmed! I am going to be a private pay pt (15,000.00) and am nervous about spending this much money etc... I have a few questions that I am hoping someone may be able to answer. 1. Has anyone been a private pay patient with Dr. Benavides or the True Results Richardson Surgery Center? If so, have you had a good experience... 2. Is 15,000.00 too much (I have searched on the web and it seems prices vary- 10,000 for 4 fills to 19,000 etc..) 3. They do not do their fills under fluoroscopy unless there is a problem that they need to check on, is this ok? 4. They said that I would have unlimited fills and after care for 12 months, but then I read a form that indicated I would only have 10 covered visits ( I have emailed the patient advocate for more information)- but am wondering if 15,000 for the procedure plus 10 visits is normal/appropriate pricing etc.. My Stats: I am 29, 5' and currently about 208.. I am dying to get to 115, but would be deliriously happy to be under 140 again=).
  2. Thank you so much for your wonderful responses. I am glad to know that getting banded will not entail not eating well. I have struggled with my weight since I was 12, but managed to stay fairly thin with dieting/running etc. until my mid twenties. I started graduate school in nyc and since then I can't keep the weight off. In the past four years I have lost 30lbs twice to only gain it back and then some. Eating out is part of the culture here and although I don't large quantities my food choices are poor. For me its all about the food, I like to workout - i hate not eating what I want. I hope the band works for me, as I really do not want to continue to live this way.

You have been so helpful, and inspirational that I have a few more questions for you. Did you have any complications with the band- in terms of slipping or erosion? I keep reading that people can cheat the band, what does that mean?

    Thank you again!

  3. Hello everyone, I just joined the forum and made an appointment for my initial evaluation with the Surgery Center of Richardson (true results). I am hoping to have my surgery with Dr. Benavides. I am 29, only 5ft and weigh 206-207. I am just tired of constantly losing 30-50lbs and then gaining it back. I have spent the last 6 years yo yo ing and am finally ready to have a more permanent resolution to my weight issues. Reading all of your posts and seeing your weight loss is very inspirational to me. Although I have alot of worries- my biggest one is about having loose skin and needing a tummy tuck. I have also heard the people's faces change and can look "saggy." Is this common? Is there any way to prevent it? Thanks!
  4. Thank you, your explanation makes complete sense and is reassuring. I like the idea of getting to goal quicker as well as only losing 1-2lbs a week (perhaps the slower loss will indeed prevent loose skin). Congatulations in losing 100% of your excess weight. It is amazing to read that people actually achieve such great weight loss. It almost seems unreal. It is funny since I have decided to do this surgery I keep looking at the pretty clothes in stores/magazines etc.. and thinking wohoo I'll be able to wear those one day! I love to cook and love love food- so I am a bit sad that I may not be able to enjoy it the same way..but if it means a lifetime free of constant anxiety about my weight, it is worth it.
  5. Talkalot1981, Mymy, Gamyj, Band75, Antliz- Thanks for writing, knowing that others worry about this is a relief and and it is great that we are all around the same size as well! I was worried that many people around this size do not usually get banded. Mymy- if you have any questions about breast reduction, feel free to ask me – as I have had that done already. Heather O- thank you so much for providing us information about your process and congratulations on your pregnancy! I am wondering if there was a reason that you lost slowly? Do people with lower BMI lose less quickly? Jachut- congratulations on being able to wear a bikini! It is really good to know that my face should be ok.. The tummy I can probably deal with being saggy. Loose skin is preferable than being the way I am now (I think). In particular, I am scared about my face. My weight is pretty evenly distributed , I wear a size 14 or 16 right now.. so perhaps Ill be lucky;).

  7. Hi Txjanna1,

I just joined the forum but have been reading the posts for a few weeks now in an attempt to educate myself and find a good surgeon in Dallas. I noticed that you were banded by Dr. Benevides and started at 209. I am 29 and 206, so I was wondering how you have liked Dr. Benevides and if you have been able to lose much weight? I have an intial evalauation scheduled with them in a few weeks, but am wondering if people in the 200 range lose as much?

    Thanks!
