Who is having success with their Band?
Leona06 replied to NurseMichelle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been banded 6 weeks, and got my first fill yesterday! WHEW I found out that I have a band and it feels GOOD! no complications here and hopefully I won't get any. My doc found my port in one poke so its all good! -
You probably need a fill! Have you had one yet? Or u could boost your exercise.... liquids aren't the answer because you can drink through the band quicker than eating through it. Hope this helps just my 2 cents!
-
thanks Donna... I was on Depo for 2 years and 3 months, so I guess it will take a while, but I shouldn't complain lol! Congrats on your will-power! The fill will really help so good luck with that as well!
-
My doc asks me to bring a 3 day food diary - with the amount of protien, water, vitamins, amounts and what times I am eating. I had my first fill yesterday... The nurse looked at my diary and determined i needed a fill - which I was sure because I gained 4 pounds from the last vist. Then the doc came in, asked me about exercise and such and then went a head and did it. First poke! Don't worry too much about the fill, its not that bad and my doc doesn't even numb it, so it can't be that bad!

Someone asked me why they couldn't see my band... they thought i was gonna wear one around my belly to make my "stomach smaller." I nearly died laughing! Someone else asked me about the fills - asking if I had to "go under" for each one. Hello.. mediport?! so now I just call them "band adjustments" People get scared when I tell them about it because they assume its Gastric Bypass, but when I explain it to them, they ask things like "you really feel full?" or "how's your energy- you must be exhausted!" I mean hello?! I am losing weight- my energy should double anddddd as long as I get the Protein.... grrr lol some people! haha

Thanks everyone for your support! I couldn't believe that the 1/2 crab cake was too much and for like 10 minutes I mourned food again. AHH! But I love this feeling of fullness now, and I don't think I can eat 1/2 crab cake anymore! I leave for NYC next Monday, so I hope to make sure I can take down solids before I go. I thought that when I go our for Orientation or something with the new students, I could order food and take half of it home. Now I think I'll need to eat off their plates and give them a few bucks lol. I just need to be careful and not get too excited. I have a question though: Was anyone on Depo Provera before surgery? I came off of it (I got my last 3 month shot in February) and still haven't started my period yet. I wonder if my band still tightens once a month if I don't have a period? I hope not. and I hope to get on some more "No period pills" soon because mine are too painful. But I haven't lost too much weight, so I know I haven't upset my system yet... but was just wondering if anyone had been on it, and come off for surgery, and how they were doing? Thanks and thanks for the BDAY wish! Happy bday to your son! So he's 19, huh... where are you again ? I'll be 22! lol just kidding!:clap2:

MY new NSV is... not really a NSV but it will create some! I just got my first fill to 2ccs! woo hoo! My mom is filled to 1.5ccs! Well, by darnit pounds and NSVs here I come! I'm finally a bandster with a real live port and restriction! :omg: No more chicken for a while! lol I feel it in my chest- and it feels good to feel full
-
Thanks KariK I was soo nervous but it wasn't as bad as I thought.. I hate needles so I just didnt look until i had to sit up. But I saw my mom with the needle in her. the Doc says that by the time we're finished, I'll love needles... I beg to differ lol.

I'M BACK FROM MY FILL and some shopping lol.... So as I said, my doc doesn't numb or use numbing spray. He had me lay on a table and push my stomach up. He counted to three and in it went! No too bad- it hurt more to have him push down on my stomach to find my port than to put the needle in. I felt the POP as he found my port on the first try. I felt a tightness in my chest/stomach area, and then... he made me SIT UP with the needle in! He told me he put in a LOT and he wanted to make sure I could drink while the needle was in. I drank some water and it went down. He left me with an aggressive 2ccs in my 4cc band because I am doing to NYC in a week for school and am not sure when I can come back due to classes. He knew that and he told me to call him if I had any problems. I REALLY feel restricted, but I can still drink and am not having too many problems drinking either. I finally know what its like to have the band! When he took the needle out, it popped again! weird! Then I was done. Not too bad, not too painful- more like a nuisance. Then it was my Mom's turn for 1.5ccs in her band. I feel different now... I had down liquids all day today because of the fill and I didn't drink 3 hours before the appt, and was really hungy, then I wasn't hungry after the fill! whew feels good to feel full! btw the nutritionist said that when I ate a half of a crabcake, I was eating too much. OMG I can't believe I have to eat less food than that! But if I need to eat less, I will. This weight will come off! grrr! Good luck to everyone with their upcoming fills! Its not that bad and lasts just about 5 -10minutes. I'm actually a bandster now! I actually feel like I have a band and I can finally use it as a tool. BYE BYE POUNDS!

I was wondering if I should eat solids before getting a fill... or how long my stomach should be empty before the fill. My first fill is Monday around 4pm, so I have all day to do liquids or solids... what did your doc tell you to do during the day leading up to your fill? I know that I need to do liquids for 3 days after the fill... Thanks!
-
Hey everyone... getting my first fill today! woohoo! I'll let u all know how it goes!
-
Well, I get my fill this afternoon with my mom... I'm nervous because my doc doesn't use a numbing needle first to do it. He just puts in the fill needle. Hopefully he can find my port! ahhh! I'll let everyone know how it goes. But hopefully this liquid phase will jumpstart my weightloss! I need it!

If you guys aren't going, take some MOM or some stool softeners! I was irregular for a little while... Then one dose of MOM and bam! lol but once that one bought went away, I still go 2 or 3 times a day like before- just less of it.

Weight-loss surgery proves fatal for driver
Leona06 replied to meyour's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not trying to be rude, but I can't get over the fact that meyour keeps posting things that don't make sense and then getting angry at us when we point out the mistakes or misunderstanding. It sounds to me like someone is not understanding their doctor. But again, I'm probably gonna be yelled at for saying it, but I think someone is making up stories to make us think that lapband isn't a good surgery. or maybe someone is jealous. -
You normally get your first fill around 6 weeks. My 6 week mark is next Wednesday but I am getting a fill on Monday. I can't believe that it is almost time for my first fill already! AHH! I guess this won't take as much time as I thought it would because its already been about a month and a half and it feels like the surgery was just a few days ago (not pain wise, but memory)... so maybe losing slowly will seem fast because time is speeding up? (I can hope right?) Next thing we know, we all be skinny YAY for us July 06 Bandsters!
-
NatesMommy.. thats is TOTALLY normal. The swelling in your stomach is slowing retreating and now you're wide-open! Just be careful not to overdue it! CONGRATS on bandland!!!!
-
Sorry if you think that think you offended me (if that makes sense)... I just wanted to say that a fudge bar can be good to ward off the cravings- but I do admit that it is full of sugar 18gs of it, and I probably shouldn't be eating it as desert/snack at 10pm... (but I do go to bed at 12:30)... I should be drinking that WATER! Maybe that will help. Thanks for telling starting/ending my day with sugar... maybe I could make crystal light ice bars for dessert since I like to have a cold treat for dessert. In fact, when I get home, I'm gonna do that and put it in the freezer! I just wanted to say that I am in NO way offended...just grateful for help and advice. but lol for having ice cream on the brain... mmm sounds good

Thanks KMO- thats also what my nutritionist said... and since I'm lactose intolerant, I only get my calcium from the cheese and suppliments. And I need a LOT of calcium due to being on Depo provera (not anymore though). I eat LF string Cheese... and also referring to the ice cream thing (also not trying to sound bitchy... ) its a Skinny Cow Fudge Bar not ice cream lol it has: <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%"><TBODY><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Calories</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>100</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Calories from Fat</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>0</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Total Fat</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>0g</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Total Fat Percentage</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>0%</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Saturated Fat</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>0g</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Saturated Fat Percentage</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>0%</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Cholesterol </TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>3mg</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Cholesterol Percentage</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>1%</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Sodium</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>60mg</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Sodium Percentage</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>2%</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Total Carbohydrates</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>21g</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Total Carbohydrates Percentage</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>7%</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Sugars</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>18g</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Sugar Alcohols</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>0g</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Protein</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>4g</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Calcium</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>10%</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Dietary Fiber</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>0g</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Vitamin A</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>6%</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Vitamin C</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>0%</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Iron</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>4%</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems>Trans Fat</TD><TD class=nutinfoItems>0mg</TD></TR><TR><TD class=nutinfoItems colSpan=2> </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> I know its not exactly good for me, but it gets rid of chocolate cravings and it helps me get in calories because I never seem to get enough in. The Nutritionist even said that the bars were good to use for ice cream cravings or a snack- as snack should be about 100calories. She said that snacks are important to keep my body going because I am so active. (Not at the moment, but was before and will be in a week when I can REALLY exercise.) I can't wait to go back to NYC and walk 100 blocks again - that was a good feeling :huggie: Again... not trying to sound bitchy or anything... everyone is different and maybe I shouldn't compare myself (although its so hard not too!) to everyone's diet and what works for them. But I DO appreciate all the tips and info everyone has given me! :huggie: Happy weightloss July Bandsters!

I watched the first show on a rerun and I'm hooked! And I agree... Angie Stone looks to be the whiner with excuses. I mean, I understand the fact that she gained weight due to medicine, but she seems to blame it ALL on that. I could do the same thing and say the entire 30 pounds I put on in the past 3 years was due to Depo and not my eating....but I would be LYING. So... when do the new shows come on VH1?

I was told 4 -6 weeks until I could swim again I haven't gone swimming yet and my 6 week is Aug 16th, but I have taken baths (the Water doesn't come up to my scars though). But I think that when you are healed, you can swim. Just be careful.
-
Wow Congrats on that and your continued weight loss! a size 22- to an 8? Thats what I want... haha good luck filming ! how about a trade though- my autograph for yours...

I see what you mean about sugar, but I'm still gonna have a fill next Monday so I can jumpstart the weightloss before I leave my doc for school. I'll be 3 and a half hours away from him in NYC but I'll be able to come home once a month to see him, and there are several doc specializing in lapband at NYU's hospital. I think it's time to cut back even more... I can eat almost a cup at every meal- a sure sign I'm ready for a fill. Other than that, I have another week and a day before my doc lets me start exercising (besides walking)... My birthday is my 6 week mark! ~Aug 16th~ and I go back to school on the 21st where I have a personal trainer lined up (she's my cousin, but she's certified haha) to kick my butt into gear! So maybe with the fill and the kick-butt pilates I'm about to start, my weightloss will soar! I am having no problems with my port now, no problems eating anything except bread and pasta (I haven't tried), and I'm only having nausia when I get anxious (not band related) so its been a good few weeks.
