i'm in the bmore area with my mom... she got banded on monday and I'm getting banded next wednesday... so we are near bwi airport if that puts it into direction perspective. We both work until 5 or 6pm m-f so walking in the evenings is good. She is still pretty sore and I think I might be, so I probably won't be walking too too much, but i'm gonna try!

She's up and about much more today... says that today is the best day so far... anddddd I just helped her take her first shower! So I would say she is doing pretty good. She was in a LOT of pain the first 2 days from the gas... the nurses said the gas-x wouldn't really help because the gas was in her body, not her stomach, and it would just have to release itself... but she is much better now. ok.... well, she thanks everyone for their support and good wishes! :Banane56: I'm having a problem right now though... my EKG came back abnormal and they say that they right side of my heart isn't pumping properly and I have an irregular heartbeat, so I have to see the cardiologist tomorrow to get cardic clearance... wish me luck, I might not be able to have the surgery!

Does anyone know about dying your hair pre-surgery? I really want to dye my hair and my surgery is next wednesday (1 week)! I know that you can't dye your hair during the first trimester of pregnancy so I was just wandering about if it affects the band.... Thanks

Thanks everyone! I want to dye my hair back to brown and blonde.. Its all blonde right now... So I'm gonna get it done on friday- my surgery is next wednesday

My surgery is July 5th with Dr. Singh in Baltimore at St.Agnes Hospital. I don't have a pre-op diet-- just no solid foods after 8pm the night before and liquids until 12 midnight that night. Then afterwards, I have a 2 week liquid diet, 2 week mushies, and 2 weeks semi hard food...

I have a strange and personal question to ask all the women that have had lapband.... My surgery is July 5th and being overweight... I have big boobs. I am concerned because the hang over my stomach and I think that my incisions will get irritated. I really enjoy wearing support bras with underwire but i know that we can't wear the underwire for awhile after the surgery. I am most comfortable when wearing a bra. I heard that we could wear sports bras but I don't find that they support me that much. What should I do about keeping the girls off my tummy?

I had to have a pre-op with a physical, bloodwork, EKG, and chest xray. This was my first EKG and they found out I have an irregular rhythm problem and the right side of my heart does not pump reguarly so I'm now not sure if I'll be cleared for my surgery on July 5th. I am going to see the cardiologist on thursday... which me luck!

I can't wait to start riding the coasters! The last time I went to a park, I waited in line with my friends for 2 hours and then got on the ride and the seat belt didn't fit, so I waited on the side while they had fun. Then they all acted funny around me for the rest of the day, so I pretended I had a headache and we left... Great day, right?

lol Thanks everyone... I can't wait to get to the point to where I don't have to wear a bra EVER.. that'll be after my rock hard boob job and reconstruction!

they tape your boobs? ouch!

I'm scared for my surgery too, July5forme! My surgery is also July 5th and my mom was banded today... It scared me watching her recover today... she was in pain and I could do nothing to help her. I am most concerned with the IV... I don't know why I'm freaking out so much.. I think I am getting some anxoity pills tomorrow from my surgeon. I have had at least 2 panic attacks about this surgery. ahh! I guess because it is my first surgery... so I'm just worried. I hope its all in vain.

OK... my dad misunderstood the nurse so he was wrong about letting my mom go today (I thought that was weird)... I just talked to her and she said that she had some pain right after the surgery, but is doing well now! She'll be there tonight and is planning to be discharged around 11am tomorrow. So everything should be good! It's been a long night last night and a long day today for all of us (no one slept well in our house last night), but it seems she is pulling through! Thanks for all your support!!

I'm 5'2 1.2 and I hope I don't lose any height!! I'm short enough already! I want to weight 120-135... I have a long way to go and my journy starts next week!

I know that while there might not be an age to get the band done... most insurance companies will not pay unless the patient is 18+... That's how all the insurance companies policies were stated when we looked into it for me. I'm now 21 and about to get banded on July 5th. But I do remember how it felt to be fat in my teens, and it wasn't fun.

Soooo, I just got a call from my dad and she is in recovery with a successful surgery! Apparently, they are sending her home at 11am... and she should have a room at 10:30am for a half hour... I think its weird, but that's what he said about it... So she spends 6 hours in the hospital lol. Lucky her!

June 25 MD Support Group Pool Meeting
Leona06 replied to Teresita's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hey everyone... I tried to write and call for directions but karens phone was disconnected, and I could get a hold of anyone... I really wanted to go to the meeting! and I'll let you guys know about my mom's band soon! -
I TOLD EVERYONE I Can and will continue to tell people because I believe if we become more open and sharing people will lose the stigma of wls. It will become so common, people will stop talking about it. Right now, so many people ask me about it and are curious to know how it works because they are interested in themselves. I am not embarrassed by the band because I am getting it to better myself. It is a tool to help us... why not share that tool with others. If people don't understand it, they have no choice but to critisize (sp) it. I find that once I explain what will happen...most accept the band and some even embrace it! I think I will love my band, and I will love all the attention I'll get after I get it... I can't wait to go shopping again...because I knew I'd be getting the surgery, I haven't bought new clothes in a year! whew... can't wait!

is there anyone in their early 20s that has lost the weight... my skin is still pretty tight although i have not been banded... but i WANT a boob job to fix the girls no matter what... it'll make me feel good lol But I can't get a TT because I am a professional opera singer and cannot afford to take the time off... I heard that sit-ups and ab worb really help with the stomach area, as well as toning and and training... I am a workout fiend and can work out for 2-3 hours a day 7 days a weeks when I start going.. Has anyone tried exercising extensively targeting problem areas and still had problems? thanks!

How is your new "role" in Friendships/relationships?
Leona06 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
:guess First of all, I'm 21 and have an active social life at school in nyc. But for the summer I am home in maryland and my friends are spread around the country/international. I have so many friends worried about me getting this surgery, althought most support me and know its a good thing. My question is... does anyone feel like your "role" in your friendships is changing? I was always the BBW in my group- the fat chick who can dress... I am wondering if and how that role is going to change and how my friendships with change with my new body. I have already lost one friend due to the changes I am embarking on... its been really REALLY difficult dealing with this surgery with no friends in maryland to support me... I mean, I have my mother- she is having lapband surgery on monday, but thats not the same. I'm just concerned because people have a hard time accepting change. I have had many friends tell me not to get it because I will always be beautiful to them, but I am doing this for me.. not them. I also have friends giving me the nice comment, "I can't imagine you as skinny, that's weird..." I am a confident person, and I know that most of you will say... "if they are your true friends, they stick with you..." but the tensions are high between us and all they keep saying is, "I'm not sure YOU can do it" Real supportive, huh? How is your "role" changing with your friends and family? Is losing weight affecting your relationships? -

we party on... in the pool unless tstorms happen... then we go to the movies lol -
that why the band is soooo awesome! You always adjust it to help the weightloss and it is a permanent tool to lose the weight. not a quick fix... thats also why they say the band and gastric are equal in weightloss in the long run... and we have less gigly skin Just showing some BAND love!

I got a date & how long did it take for a yes or no?
Leona06 replied to Time to love me's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have researching the band for 2 years now. My first insurance company wouldn't cover my mother and i for the band, just gastric. because we wanted the band, we changed insurance companies in jan 06. I had already started the required 6 month diet in dec05, and finished the diet on may15, 2006.. turned in the paperwork by May 25, got approval on June 7th and got a date for July 5th. Insurance will pay for 85%... My moms dates is June 26... monday! She also had no problems with the new insurance. She is going to change back to our old insurance next year because its cheaper. -
Thanks everyone! I think I'm gonna go buy a sports bra thats a size up than I normally wear! I'm glad you guys have not had my trouble with your bra's/incisions! That was one of the many things I wasn't sure about. And being a week and 4 days pre-op, I'm getting nervous! My mom's surgery is 2 days away as well! I'll make sure to tell you guys what I did... thanks again!

I'm a full time grad student working on my Masters of Music at the Manhattan School of Music because I am studying to be a professional opera singer! At school, I coordinate all the Special Events and party planning with the Office of Student Affairs, and I looking for a new Church job (singing on Sunday mornings) Let me just say, I LOVE NYC... I just graduated from my undergrad in Manhattan from Juilliard and it was the most fun ever! I am about to get my first apartment away from my parents and I am a full time mommy to 2 big parrots, fish, and a dwarf hamster. For work, this summer I am interning with the government in my home state of maryland... and getting banded on July 5th. I go back to NYC in late August... as a whole different person with a much healthier lifestyle.
