Thanks for the tips! I tried to use the pillow to roll to my right a day or two ago and it hurt to much. It felt like something was pulling. I tried again last night and it worked. It felt soooo good.:tt1: My back was poppin and grinding like you wouldn't believe!

Where does all this gas come from anyways?

Your body has to have time to heal. Use this time to get closer in other ways, holding hands, cuddling..... try to reassure your wife.

How active were you the first few days thru the first week of surgery? How much walking is enough? How much is to much? What other activities did you do?
-
How long does the pain and swelling last? I'm so scared, I'm screwing up my stomach. Am I drinking to much liquid, drinking it to fast? Am I bending, sitting, standing to much? I'm scared I have slippage or pull a stitch.

I agree! All the support is awesome here. Thanks for all the suggestions!

That's Awesome! You could always send me your cute 16-14 size clothes.

Had surgery yesterday. I thought I was doing really well. No nausea, drinking Water OK, walking around the house. My incisons, especially left/port side is hurting sooo much. It's very difficult to get in/out of bed and sit/stand. I haven't been able to sleep hardly at all. I'm uncomfortable no matter my position. I'm taking my pain medication and tylenol in between.
Any suggestions?

I have a history of back pain from being rear ened. On the day of lapband surgery, my back wasn't hurting. As soon as I woke up from anesthesia, I realized my back was spasing severely and hurt as much as my incisions. I think it was because of the position they had my body during surgery. They said they would have my feet lower than my upper body. I think maybe it put alot of pressure on my back. All I know is it didn't hurt before the surgery and hurt like heck after.

My doctor said a minimum of 50 grams of Protein a day. His nurse also said, Hair loss is possbile from the surgery (anesthesia) and low protein. Seems like 1-2 shakes per day will be necessary to meet the minimum requirements. I actually liked the Optifast shakes and Designer whey. I add a sweet n low and cinammon for a egg nog type taste, or vanilla extract, other extracts like mint to chocolate, coffee, crystal lite... experiment with flavors. I could use one right now!

I made it thru the pre-op diet. Tomorrow is the big day.
I'm so nervous & scared. I've never had surgery before. I hope I don't freak out and back out at the last minute. I can't! I've already paid for the surgery. I'm a self pay!!! Pray for me!

I'm scheduled for surgery w/ Dr. Kim on Tues 04/14/09 and I'm a self pay too. I went to the seminar on 03/31/09, consultation on 04/01/09 and started the Optifast pre-op diet the same day. It's fast!

Hey Pac,
I sent you a private msg on here w/ my email. I'm scheduled at Forest Park on Tues 04/14/09. Hope you're doing well. Email me when you get a chance.

Hey Terelbel,
What's wrong w/ red?
-
I'm a self-pay and had consult on 04/01/09 and surgery is scheduled for 04/14/09. No psych eval or supervised diet... just the usual pre-op testing that's done before any surgery. Good luck.

It's day 5 of 14 days pre-op diet. It's really tough. I miss food and eating. I can only have 5 Optifast shakes and SF Jello, Crystal lite and SF tea. I've added SF popsicles, and FF chicken broth and I cheated by eating a couple of bites of cooked veggies from the Soup I made the chicken broth from. At least some ppl get to have real food: veggies, salads and OMG chicken. I don't understand why there's such a huge difference between pre-op diets from doctor to doctor and I don't understand why someone who needs to lose 100 lbs has to the same diet as someone who needs to lose 200-300. It doesn't make sense to me. Yes, I do want my surgery to be a sucess and I don't want to take any risks. I just needed to rant for a bit. At least by the time I do get to start eating I will appreciate the healthy stuff like chicken, veggies, salad if I can still tolerate it. AND, I've only lost 4 lbs so far. I lost it after the 1st day of liquid. I'm on day 5, I thought I'd be down 7-8 lbs by now! Argh! Sorry about the ranting. I'm just hungry. : (

Pac, glad you're doing so well. I'm only taking off work a week. Do you think you could've returned to work if you had to after a week?

For those not telling, how did you hide or explain the pre-op & liquid diet? I don't want to tell my co-workers I'm having the lap band. I'm afraid all their questions will make me more nervous and freaked out. Any suggestions or tips how to explain the liquid diet? I'm afraid someone will figure out my secret.

I'm 5 days post-op. I'm still having pain and discomfort. Especially, sitting down, laying down and getting up. I can't bend over either. I'm taking pain meds a couple of times a day. I'd never had surgery before so, I was terrified! :tt1: The surgery itself was not bad at all. I was really surprised. The whole next day I couldn't believe I'd really had surgery (except for the pain & discomfort). I was surprised by the swelling & bloating. I wasn't expecting that. Overall, it's not bad. It is major surgery so, some pain should be expected.
Good luck with your surgery.
