I have looked into LapBand for several years, but my previous insurance didn't cover it. When my husband joined the Air Force, and we started on military insurance, I looked again and faound out they did cover it. I started the actual process in April 09' and did all of the appointments and testing required. I was the first person denied at my surgeons office by Tricare, they said becuase I didn't meet the criteria. The surgeons office worked on my behalf to find out that I was 2 lbs underweight...which was just a silly thing since the only "official" weight they had was something I had written on paperwork in April. After a visit to the office for a real weight, I met the requirements and was approved within a couple of hours. My surgery was September 14, 2009, and I was doing so well the day of surgery that the surgeon let me go home. I thought I was happy about that, but it turns out the hospital bed was more comfy than mine, or my couch. Live and learn. Today is Sept. 17, and it is the first time I have felt hungry, but boy do I!! Excited that my first follow-up is Sept 23, which is my b-day, and if all is well, which expect it to be, I get to have some Malt-O-Meal!!
