    Drinking before and After meals.

My doctor has the 30/30 rule also. I am ok before, but after it's a killer! I am one who was addicted to soda, and had one with my meals. Now I can't even drink water with my meals, and it's hard to get used to, but I'm doing it. Went to a friends on Saturday night, had a few healthy snacks, but was dying for something to drink, but had to wait the 30 stinkin minutes.

    exercise bike question

ok so I'm trying to get my walking in but am DYING to ride my stationary bike. I saw my doctor for followup today and that was the one question I forgot to ask! What have your doctors said as far as exercise go? I know I'll end up calling my surgeon and asking, but thought I'd put the question out there...

    exercise bike question

Thanks for the reply! that's good news. I am going to ask my nurse tomorrow if they will ok me to ride the bike because I'm itching to get on! Cheers!
  4. So, I gave myself my last Lovenox injection today, I'm very excited. I hate shots. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone experienced any side effects from the shots? Not just common ones like bruising, etc, but anything more unusual? Thanks!

Julie, mine is located right where yours is, it sounds like.

    My first thread

Welcome Erica, good luck with everything!!! You'll be so happy you did it.
  7. I guess I shouldn't assume that most people had to have them. I thought since my doctor required it that most people were in the same boat. Anyway, my doctor has everyone undergoing bariatric surgery give themselves lovenox injections twice a day for 2 weeks to prevent blood clotting. Yes, I still had to walk everyday, but this was just a precautionary method. Anyway, glad it's over now.

    weight gain??

Lindsay, everyone is different, so I guess it depends on you! I have read on here that it's very common to stop losing for a couple of weeks once you begin the mushy phase, but once your body gets adjusted, you start to lose again. Don't let this discourage you, I'm sure you'll be very successful. Good luck tomorrow!

Slowly but surely. Down from 327. Around 263

    You are looking awesome!
  11. Thanks for the reply Sandi. I was just curious because a few days after surgery, I experienced some tingling in my thigh and a little pain. I just thought it was the pinched nerve I have acting up, but I'm not 100% convinced. I guess if it doesn't get better by tomorrow, I'll call my doc.

    a non-supportive spouse...

I think alot of people think that way, that it's taking the easy way out. It really isn't. Wait til he sees all of the hard work you have to go through, it will change his mind. He should be proud of you for taking any step towards getting healthier, not discouraging you. My boyfriend has been supportive since day one, and I am truly thankful of that because I couldn't have made it this far without his support.

    weight gain??

I'm in the same boat. Was banded May 20th and lost 6 pounds in 5 days after surgery. However, got on the scale Monday and saw that I had stayed the same. I am not weighing myself now until my first fill, which is the 29th. I've spoken with lots of members on here who have gone through the same thing {as you can see with the replies to this thread!}. Our bodies are just adjusting to the drastic change. We just need to keep our heads up and we'll make it through! Don't get discouraged!

Any tips on survivng the Preop Diet

On my pre op diet, I was allowed one meal a day of fish or chicken. However, it was really hard for me at the beginning. Just try to stay as busy as you can so you aren't focused on food or being hungry. You'll find the first few days really really difficult, but it gets better after that. I lost 15 pounds during my 2 week diet. That kept me motivated as well, getting on the scale and seeing a difference. Just try to keep your head up!

    Mushies Stage Recipes

I'm in mushies right now and my coworker made me a wonderful "dessert". I didn't think I'd like it but it's great! low fat cottage cheese carbmaster low carb yogurt {any flavor, cherry, strawberry, etc} cool whip free mix all together and enjoy! It's so good!

    Water Question

Same here Juniper. I have a history of kidney stones as well, including one that happened 5 days before surgery. Anyway, I was told to drink as much plain water as possible. But like you said, for everyone else, the mixed kind counts as well.
  17. Hey Meredith! I'm doing well. It's now 2 weeks post op. I'm feeling pretty darn good. All the soreness and gas pains have gone away and I'm feeling back to my old self. I'm now officially on the mushy stage, and it's been pretty good, compared to the liquids! I haven't lost much, but I guess that's normal as you reintroduce food back into your diet. I go for my first fill June 29th. So, is the 26th your surgery date then??? I understand being nervous, but trust me, you'll be glad that you did it! Are you getting excited though too? IF you have any questions, just let me know!

Has anyone else stopped losing weight?

Thanks spideymom, because I know for a fact that I was very discouraged after stepping on the scale. I know it's to be expected, but it's still disappointing because we're working so hard! I cannot wait for my first fill, but sadly it's not until the 29th. Oh well. I'll keep plugging away! Eileen, you can go to tickerfactory.com and make your own ticker, and birthstonetext.com for the mayo banditos. Once you make them, paste the code into your signature, which you can do under "user cp" at the top of the page!

    wound care

I would call your doc and ask just to be safe. Oddly enough, they took the bandages off of me after surgery and I haven't had to wear any bandages over my incisions at all. I was told just to wash with soap and water everyday. I've been doing that, and they are healing great!

Has anyone else stopped losing weight?

jazzy, I'm having the same problem. Banded 2 weeks ago, lost 6 pounds in 5 days after surgery, then weighed myself yesterday and stayed the same. Now, I've talked to people on here who say it's completely normal. But I went to a support group last night and my nurse said I should be losing something. I'm super frustrated.

  22. I'm definitely going to go to the store today and get some different things! Yep, healing really well, knock wood. I went back to work last Wednesday, which I think was too soon. But I'm doing ok now! I hope you have a great week!

    Me at a wedding - May 9, 2009

You are looking great! Keep up the wonderful work!
  24. That's great news! I know you can do the 21 lbs by then! I'm going to have to go to livestrong.com.

Thanks for the heads up. I go for my first fill June 29th, so 4 weeks from today. I'm so ready for it, I still have quite an appetite, although not eating too much.

  25. Hey there! I'm doing alright, how are you? I'm feeling pretty good, but was a little discouraged when I got on the scale this morning. I stayed the same since last Monday. I know it's to be expected because I have started on soft foods, but still, was hoping to lose a little. Oh well. How are things for you?
