Wow. I am glad to have found this thread also. I am made the decision to cut my carbs also. I have been banded 3 years, and feel like I need to take a different approach in helping me lose weight with the band.
-
You need someone to find out what is going on. You shouldn't be in so much pain. I found that the actual radiologist is better at finding the smallest slips after looking at previous images. Stay on the Docs til they figure out your problem.
-
Thanks for the update. I find myself in a similiar situation. As I read through the threads,it is hard to see success stories. For me, I am finding an increase in energy, have lost 15lbs cutting the carbs, and am eating better foods.
-
Are you still doing low carbs? What is your progress now?
-
How is your weight loss now? Did you switch to low carbs?
-
It sounds like you should see the doctor ASAP. Shooting/sharp pain is never a good sign, and without fluid. Did they do an Upper GI Series to make sure you haven't slipped?
-
That's great news. I am glad things worked out for you.
-
My doctor took out all of the fluid for 6 weeks. I was able to eat regular foods. I actually ate foods we are supposed to eat, fish, chicken, vegetables. I did my best not to over eat, and I only gained 3lbs while empty. He didn't give me restrictions like only liquids. After the 6 weeks, had another upper GI series, everything was okay, then he put fluid in, and is increasing fills gradually.
-
Not sure of % of not working, but I can say that for myself, having the fluid out corrected the problem.

Prayer does work. I am glad to hear your band is back in place.

I know the frustration you are experiencing. However, you have to believe things will work out no matter how it looks.

I have had ups and downs with my band (lapband), and in December of last year a slip. My doctor removed all of my fluid for 6 weeks. I had an upper GI series at 6 weeks, and luckily it got back into place on its own. I have now had 2 fills since then, and have lost 15 pounds.

Imagine getting a fill on Wednesday, then that time of the month hits Friday. I was doing liquids post fill, and now that is all I can tolerate. This is one of the first times where I am realizing this change in my body. I was just looking through old blogs and found several other comments on this topic. I must say it is good to see (although not the best experience) that others have this problem. Now I am just wondering should I just try and do liquids until my cycle ends?

When my band slipped, there was no getting anything in, not even water. You may have gotten to much of a fill, and seemed tighter since there was a long time since your last fill. Make sure you contact your doctor if no changes soon.

Maybe you could find a surgeon in your area and let them know your plans for surgery in Mexico, so that they could at least follow you and hopefully take you in post-op. I moved from the city where I had my surgery and it took quite a while 4 months for me to get a doctor to do fills.
-
I too was an orphan. Went to a big city, but again no one wanted to accept me when they didn't do the surgery. I persisted until a nurse in one office said she would have the doctor review my medical records. From August til December no follow-up/help/advice.

I had a fill on August 4th. My doctor had a difficult time sticking me. After several attempts, he finally got in. I have a 10cc band. He gave me a .3cc fill to bring volume up 2.0cc. My problem is that I don't think any fluid is in there. I have no restriction. I have had as much as 2.5cc in the past. I have another appointment on September 8th. I am trying to watch what I eat. Is it possible that he didn't put the fluid back in, or could it have leaked out?

Can I get a Gastric bypass after a lap band

Thanks all for sharing. I know the band is a good tool, however right now I don't have the restriction I need. I am going to look into the sleeve. -
Can I get a Gastric bypass after a lap band
kldill replied to AnnieMae's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I having been watching your post, and waiting to see replies. I have basically gained back all but 5 pounds of my pre-surgery weight. I spoke with the MD about my weight gain, since I have been filled and unfilled. He said if we couldn't get weight off with the band, he would recommend bypass. I was banded in May 07, and had lost a max of 59 pounds. -
Easter was tough, overeating, eating wrong, vomiting

It might seem weird, but it may be watching others eat. I will cook for my husband, let him start, then I will get my small plate. My husband eats quickly, which I noticed increased my pace. Eating too fast will make you throw up. -
I was banded in May 07. I was 252 when I decided to have the surgery. I have been as low as 185, but I was sick all the time, throwing up, not being able to eat. I have been unfilled and filled more than a dozen times. My weight today is 218, but I still don't feel good all the time. I have had a barium swallow, band is in place. Is it normal to be able to eat, then just wake up and feel full? After feeling nauseated, has anyone else just been okay the next day?

Hello all, I actually had my surgery in Nevada in May 2007, however I moved to MO in August of that year. My initial weight when deciding to have the surgery was 251. On the day before surgery I was down to 242. I found a MD to give me fills, and have been up and down. My lowest was 185, however I was sick all the time. Right now I am back at 220, but have a new determination to stick with it, and to be compliant. I figure joining a group where everyone has had this experience will help me and give me the support that others do not understand.
